If I Had You
Dear God

I hung out with Sonny today.
We had a pretty deep conversation.
I never realized how much I missed her.
Braelyn said:
I thought you guys stopped hanging out back in middle school.
Acacia said:
We did.
But now we’re hanging out again.
Braelyn said:
Oh. That’s cool. I’m happy you got your friend back.
Acacia said:
Thank you baby. How was your day?
Braelyn said:
It was pretty fun actually. Cole and I went to see a movie and then went out for ice cream. Then we came back here and just hung out.
I feel breath on my neck and look over my shoulder. Cole takes one look at the screen and shouts: “Tell her I said hi!”
Braelyn said:
He’s still here too. He says hi. (:

Hi Cole!
Cole shoos me off of the computer seat and starts typing. This worries me greatly. Cole doesn’t know about Caci and me. All he really knows is that Caci is someone I met online who lives in Florida and that we’ve been chatting for about five years now.
I really hope he doesn’t say something that could hurt her. Or me for that matter.
The sound of my laptop snapping shut breaks me out of my thoughts. I look back over at Cole who has a slight frown on her face.
“Why did you shut the computer off?” I ask.
“Acacia had to go.” He shrugs.
I sigh and feel my shoulders slump. “Oh. Okay. Why the frown though?”
“I think… I think I kind of, maybe, possibly—”
“Just spit it out,” I snap.
“I think I like her. Like, as more than a friend.”
I freeze. Heat quickly engulfs my body but I keep my anger and jealousy hidden. “Really?” I question. “What makes you think that?”
He shrugs again. “I don’t really know. There’s just something about her… And when we talk, even if it’s just for a few minutes, it makes my whole day!”
I stop myself from glaring at him. “That doesn’t mean you like her.”
Cole huffs. “Braelyn, stop being so argumentative. So I like her. Big deal. She lives in Florida. It’s not like I’ll ever see her.”
“Whatever. Let’s watch another movie.”

After Cole leaves I sign back onto MSN. Unfortunately Acacia isn’t online. This day just went from pretty fun, to okay, to suckish just in a few hours. Amazing.
Let’s just hope that tomorrow will be a good day.

Today wasn’t a good day. First thing I do when I wake up is check my MSN to see if Caci is online. She’s not.
Cole picked me up and took be out for ice cream again.
He kept talking about Acacia the whole entire time. He even tried probing me for more information about her.
Sadly, we’re still here. And we’re still talking about Acacia.
“Hey, I have an idea!” Cole shouts.
I sigh. “What is your idea, Cole?”
“Well I was thinking, maybe I could fly Caci up here.”
I jump upright in my chair and pinch my arm to make sure I’m not dreaming.
“What?!” I screech. “Are you nuts?! How are you even going to get the money?”
“Fuck, Braelyn! Thanks for blowing out my eardrums!”
I huff. “Sorry. Now answer my fucking questions.”
“No. I’m not nuts. And I save every penny I don’t spend on bills remember? I can cover a ticket to Canada.”
“Still, Cole. Don’t you think this isn’t a good idea…? I mean, what if she doesn’t like you like that?”
“Then she doesn’t like me like that. She’s still my friend though I clearly,” he gestures his hands outward, “I like hanging out with my friends.”
I purse my lips. Acacia and I have talked about her coming up here… She said she was going to save money to get a ticket when she was fifteen. Granted that was three years or so ago and I have no idea if she even did save enough money.
“Yeah… Let’s talk to her about it when she gets online,” I finally say.
Cole smiles at me and ruffles me hair. “I knew you would agree. Let’s go back to my place and see if she’s online.”
Dear God, I pray in my head, please don’t have me regret this decision.
