I've Got Luck

Getting Some News

"Yesterday was fun," Anna says as we relax on her bus.
I nod, "yeah, it was."
"I say we do it again before we leave."
I nod again, agreeing.
"I can't believe we'll be done in a week."
"It's going to suck. I'll miss hanging out with you guys."
She smiles, "well, good thing I'm an hour away."
"Yeah, we'll have to get together for coffee or something."
"I can meet Eric," she winks, "maybe we'll double date."
"Double date?" I ask confused.
She smiles a little, "I'm dating someone!"
"Who!"
"Well, I mean, we aren't dating, it's just, we're going to give it a shot."
"Who?"
"His name is James."
"How do you know him?"
"Old friend," she smiles.
I smile, "he a cutie?"
She nods, "oh yes."
I laugh, "well than, we will be double dating."
She smiles, "sounds good."
I sigh as I lay back on the bench and I relax.
"Going to miss Alex?"
"You're seriously asking me this?"
She shrugs, "come on, why don't you two just talk about things?"
"Because he doesn't feel that way! Or he hasn't admitted it at least. Besides, I'm with Eric and I don't want to hurt him."
"It's not official," she says.
"Anna," I warn, "don't say that."
"You like him, Ash, I want you to be happy!"
"Who said I'm not happy?"
She remains silent. I smirk.
"I'm happy to be with Eric, I want to try this out. Alex knows how I feel and the ball is in his court."
"Okay, say you're back at home, with Eric and you run into Alex, he admits his feelings for you. What do you do?" She asks.
I look at her, thinking.
"I'll dump Eric and marry Alex."
Her mouth and eyes grow wide and I laugh.
"I'm kidding!" I say, "as if."
"So even though you've liked Alex for a long time, you'd turn him down?"
"I don't know... I really don't."
She sighs as she looks around and notices the time, "I better head to stage. We'll talk later."
I nod. We get off the bus and she heads off as I stay back.
"Boo!" I hear behind me.
I turn around and see Alex, a small grin on his face.
"Hi," I greet.
"What's going on?"
"I was just talking with Anna," I say cautiously, "you?"
"Going for a walk. Join me?"
I check my phone for the time, an hour until I head onto the stage. I look at Alex who is waiting for my answer and I nod. We begin walking around the area.
"So, you liked the marshmallow shots?" He asks making conversation.
"Yeah, surprisingly," I reply.
"Maybe some of us can get together and have more after tour."
I nod, "maybe Eric will join."
"Or," he says, "it can just be us."
"What do you mean, 'us'"?
"Uh, you, me, Jack," he says nervously, "you know, the bands."
I stop, "Alex, what's going on?"
He stops as well and turns to me, "what do you mean?"
I open my mouth to speak but my phone cuts me off. I sigh as I grab it.
"Hello?"
"Hey," Eric says.
I look at Alex, who's watching me, and I look away, "hey, Eric."
I notice Alex shuffling.
"What's up?" I ask.
"Um, I don't want to do this over the phone but, uh, your grandma is in the hospital."
"What?" I ask, panic mode.
"She was taken in last night, she fell down the stairs."
"Oh my god," I say quietly.
"Your mom wants to know if you'll be able to come home?"
I look at Alex, "yeah, I'll come tonight."
"Okay, I'll be at the hospital waiting for you."
"Okay," I nod, "I'll see you later."
"Ash?" He says before I hang up.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry."
I smile a little, "thanks."
"See you later."
"Bye." I hang up and Alex gives me a look.
"I have to go talk to Evan."
"What's going on?"
"I'm going home," I say as I rush to see Evan.
"Evan?" I ask when I see him.
"Hey, Ashlynn," he says writing something.
"I need to ask a favor."
"Shoot."
"I have to go home tonight."
He looks up at me and Alex reaches us, "what for?"
"My grandma's in the hospital."
"Oh man. Okay," Evan says, "you're done for the tour?"
I sigh, "I think so."
"Alright, can you go on in an hour still?"
I nod, "yeah. But I better leave after."
"Yeah, that's fine. Sorry to hear."
I smile a little, "thanks."
I turn to walk to the bus and remember Alex is there.
"You're leaving tour early?" He asks, sounding disappointed.
I sigh, "I'm sorry."
I walk passed him and get to the bus. I sit in the back, not in the mood to be disrupted. I guess I don't have a week left with Alex.
