I've Got Luck

I'm Such An Idiot

I relax on the couch as Eric lays on top of me. His head resting on my chest as we stay in silence. Finally, Eric moves his head and looks at me.
“What?” I smile.
“How did I get a girl like you?”
I laugh, “really?”
He smiles, his body moving up so our faces are leveled and he kisses me. I wrap my arms around his neck while his wrap around my waist as the kiss deepens. He pulls back, sighing.
“I better get going,” he says as he stays in place.
“Yeah you should,” I agree but I show no sign of letting him go.
“I’ll be late for work,” he says quietly.
I nod slowly and he kisses me again. We continue to kiss and I slowly let him go.
“You should go,” I laugh.
“I’ll call you later,” he says.
I nod as he stands, pulling me up with him, I give him a quick kiss and he heads off. Once the door closes, my phone rings. I go and answer it.
“Hello?”
Silence.
“Hello?” I repeat.
“Hey,” Alex says.
“You’re a little late on the phone call.”
“I know,” he sighs, “I’m sorry.”
“What do you want?”
“Will you come have coffee with me?”
“How will I know you won’t stand me up?”
He gives a soft laugh, “I’ll come pick you up.”
“I can’t,” I lie.
“Big plans?”
“I was planning to visit my grandma in the hospital.”
“I’m not asking you go on a trip, Ash, just coffee.”
“Fine.”
“Okay, what’s your address?”
I sigh as I give it to him.
“I’ll come get you around 2:30?”
“See you then.”
“Bye.”
We hang up and I throw my phone on the couch. What am I doing? I glance at the clock and see I have just under a half hour. I have a shower and get ready and by the time I’m done, Alex arrives.
“Hey,” he smiles.
“Hi.”
His smile fades, “are you going to act like this the whole time?”
“Alex, you don’t exactly have the right to make that kind of comment.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t call.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“I got scared.”
I give him a skeptical look, “scared of what?”
“Talking to you.”
“Alex, we’re going for coffee together, shouldn’t this scare you?”
“Not after I saw you the other night.”
I sigh, shaking my head a little, “we should go," avoiding this conversation.
We head out to his car and drive to one of the small coffee shops. Once inside, we grab a coffee and take a seat in a small table off to the side.
“So, why’d you want to come for coffee?”
“To make up for not calling you,” he says quietly, “and I like hanging out with you.”
I look down, keeping my face a little hidden.
“How was tour?” I ask, changing the subject.
“It sucked a little after you guys left.”
“I’m sure, Jackson, Ben and Seth were the only other guys on the tour that we all hung out with.”
He nods a little, “how have you been?”
I shrug, “good, I guess.”
“You guess?”
“Well, my grandma is coming close to her life ending, the guy I like has been doing nothing but confuse me," did I seriously just say that?
“Me?”
I stare at him, “yeah, you. Who else?"
“What do you mean?”
“The way you were texting me,” I explain, “the things you said.”
He sighs as he looks down, a hand running through his hair. I sigh.
“Whatever, it doesn’t matter.”
“It does, obviously if you brought it up.”
“Yeah but not anymore,” I say nervously.
“You still like me?” He asks, I should hit myself for this.
“I don’t know. You’re an ass,” I mutter leaning back in my chair.
He chuckles lightly, “I am. But an ass you like.”
“Alex, I’m not discussing this,” I warn him.
“Okay, okay. What do you want to discuss then?”
I sigh, “I don’t know.”
“Are you happy with Eric?” He asks suddenly.
“Alex!” I hiss.
“I’m serious!”
I look at him, “yeah, I'm happy.”
“I ruined my chance, didn’t I?” He asks.
I look down, regretting this whole thing.
"I don't know."
