I've Got Luck

Busy Day With The Men

My phone wakes me the next morning and I glance at the time, Alex is suppose to be here soon. I answer it as I quickly get dressed.
“Hello?”
“Hey,” Alex says, sounding quieter.
“You almost here?”
“I am here.”
“I didn’t hear you knock,” I start towards the door.
“That’s because I didn’t. You have a visitor.”
I hear a knock and I laugh, “too late now. I know you’re here.”
“It’s not me. Call me when he’s gone.”
“What?” But he's already hung up.
I answer the door to see Eric. I smile as I shove my phone in my back pocket.
“Hey!” I smile.
“Hey,” Eric says and kisses me as he walks inside.
I peak out in the hallway, empty. I shut the door and turn to Eric, still smiling.
“What’s up?”
“I have to talk to you.”
“Okay? About what?”
“It’s my dads birthday this weekend and mom is getting a surprise party set up for him, so, I have to leave tomorrow.”
“Oh, okay.”
“Do you want to come?”
I smile, “I’d love to but, I should stay here, because of grandma.”
“Of course,” he replies.
“You go have fun with your family,” I smile and kiss him, “I’ll see you when you get back.”
He cups my face in his hands and kisses me gently. The kiss deepens as I wrap my arms around him and he gently presses me against the wall. We pull back.
“Okay, I better get back.”
I nod, “what are you doing tonight?”
“Other than packing, nothing,” he says.
“Come pick me up around 7?”
He smiles, “will do.”
I quickly kiss him. He heads off and I stay still for a minute. I remember Alex and pull out my phone.
“He’s gone.”
“I’m on my way up.”
I get my shoes on and once I finish zipping up the boots, Alex is at the door.
“Come in,” I call and he does so.
“Hey,” he says shutting the door.
“Hi,” I reply and slip on my sweater.
“Ready to go?”
I nod as I grab my purse, “yup!”
We head out to his car and he drives off to the hospital and we head up to grandma's room.
“Hey grandma,” I say, seeing she’s awake.
“Hi,” she says.
“Grandma, this is my friend Alex,” I introduce.
“Nice to meet you,” Alex says.
She smiles in response.
We sit down and I take her hand, “how are you today?”
She sighs as her head rests against the pillow, “not so good, sweetie.”
I give her a weak smile, “what have the nurses been doing?”
“I’m suppose to get my medication in a little bit.”
Mom walks in then, “how are my ladies today?”
“Grandma isn’t doing so well today,” I reply.
She see’s Alex, his back to her, and she gives me a look. I smile.
“Mom, Alex,” I introduce, “Alex, mom.”
“Nice to meet you,” Alex says and they shake hands.
“Likewise,” mom smiles.
“I think I’m in your seat,” he says, allowing her to sit.
“Oh, thank you.”
He smiles and moms sits, Alex coming to my side.
“Eric at work?” She asks.
“Yeah, he’s leaving tomorrow,” I tell her.
“What for?”
“His dads birthday weekend.”
“Oh, fun. You're not going?”
I shake my head and we turn our attention to grandma. I smile as she looks at the three of us.
“So, Alex who are you?” Grandma asks quietly.
“I’m the singer in a band called All Time Low,” he says with a little chuckle, “I’m one of Ashlynn’s great friends.”
I laugh, “yeah, great friend.”
Grandma smiles a little just as a nurse enters to give her medication. She soon drifts to sleep.
“You can head off if you want,” I say quietly to Alex while mom is in the bathroom.
“I like being around you guys, it’s nice. Besides, I have no plans.”
I smile a little, “want to go have a bite to eat?”
“Sure.”
Mom comes back inside.
“We’re going to go eat, want to come?”
“I ate just before I came,” she smiles, “see you soon.”
We head down to the cafeteria and get something to eat. We sit at one of the tables and begin eating.
“Didn’t Eric offer you to go with him?”
“He did, but with the things going on with grandma, I need to be here.”
“Oh.”
“Thanks for coming,” I say, "I mean it."
He smiles, “yeah, I'm happy I was able to come.”
“Whenever you want to leave, just let me know.”
He nods, “I will. Same goes to you.”
Once we finish eating, we head back up to see grandma where we stay for about another hour until we decide to make our way out.
“I’ll see you later?” I say to Alex.
“I’m free whenever so just call me up.”
I smile, “okay. Bye. Thanks, again.”
He smiles with a nod and I make my way towards my building, heading up to my apartment to get ready for my night with Eric. He arrives an hour later, dressed nicely, and I smile at the sight of him.
"How did I get a guy like you?" I joke.
He chuckles and kisses me gently, "read to go?"
I nod, "where you taking me?"
"Dinner," he replies taking my hand as we walk to his car, "maybe a movie."
I smile, "sounds like a good night."
We go to a little pasta place for dinner and when we finish there, we go see a movie. He lets me pick but I've been so out of it that I have no idea what anything is even about so he picks an action one.
"Thank you for tonight," I say as we cuddle on my couch.
He smiles, pushing some of my hair behind my ear, "you're welcome."
I press my lips to his and he instantly kisses me back. The kiss deepens and we fall back onto the couch, he rests on top of me and I wrap my arms around him.
"What time are you leaving tomorrow?"
"5:30 in the morning."
I look at the time, "holy crap! That's hardly any sleep."
"What?" He asks, checking the time, "it's midnight already?"
I chuckle, "it appears so."
He sighs, his head falling into the crook of my neck, "I guess I should go."
I smile and kiss him, "you should."
"I'll call when I get there."
I nod as we get up and we kiss one last time.
"Have a safe trip," I say as he heads out.
I close the door, ready to lay in my bed and sleep.
