Wrong Place at the Wrong Time

Chapter 16

“Andy!” I screamed from the living room couch and then I heard a glass break in the kitchen.

“Yes, Anna?” Andy replied with a scared voice.

“I want to go upstairs.” I said.

“Then go?” he said looking from side to side still probably thinking how ridiculous I’m being, but hey, it’s not my fault! So yeah, I deserve to be pampered for once. Patrick is so lucky he’s stuck in his room with a book, otherwise he would be doing all of the running.

“I can’t.”

“Use the crutches.” Andy replied pointing to the corner of the room where lied two constructions complex enough for me to tear my eyes out. Like math! Translation for confused: I hate crutches as much as I hate math. I don’t wanna hear about it, I don’t wanna look at them.

“Carry me!” I said in demanding voice as I outstretched my arms.

“Pete!” Andy bellowed and seconds later Pete came from the basement and glared at all of us.

“What?” he growled. Oh by the way, Andy and I called Pete about seventeen times in the past half hour.

“Chore time.” Andy smiled and motioned to me with his hand and then went back to the kitchen to do god knows what.

Pete growled in annoyance and picked me up and started walking upstairs. After he reached my bedroom he literally threw me onto my bed and shut the door pretty loudly.

“Someone’s moody.” I mumbled as I tried to get more comfortable because I don’t think that I’m going to be able to go downstairs till at least tomorrow.

I laid my head on my pillow and closed my eyes trying to relax. But no such luck. I heard tapping on my window and I turned to look at it.

“What do you want, William?” I sighed and carefully limped my way to the window sill. I opened the window and waited for the Dandy king to response.

“Why so unhappy? I thought we hit it off?” he said frowning. He tried to reach his hand towards my face but the force field around the house wouldn’t allow him to do so.

“You took my best friend away from me.” I answered flatly. “I thought she was nice and caring, but no, she chose your side.”

“She’s all of those things you said, which is why she chose my side. She’s protecting whoever she loves.” He said with a smile and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. “She’s in love with a Dandy.” He continued.

“I know, but after what happened between them, I thought that it was over.” I said looking down and trying to think of more reasons why Avery would want to pick his side. Then after a couple of minutes, I realized that William was telling the truth. I looked back up at him.

“She is trying to trick me.” he started with a little nod. “She’s playing with one of my fighter’s feelings, and for her to tell him the truth, I need your help. I know for a fact that she won’t listen to me. But she will listen to you. Please, talk to her.” He said and my jaw literally dropped.

“You love her.” I whispered and he just smiled.

“She’s my sister.” He answered with a smile. “Goodnight, Anna. Sweet dreams.” He said with a breathtaking smile and jumped from the sill. I just smiled to myself and went to bed trying to think things through.

*****Avery’s POV*****

“Ryan! Ryan! Ryan!” I frantically yelled as I ran through the halls of the Dandy mansion. Every single vampire that looked in my direction were killed on my way to Ryan’s room.

“What is going on?!” Ryan yelled as he saw me with a stake in my hand and tears staining on my cheeks.

“He knows.” I said in a low, pained voice.

“Come in.” he said quickly and pulled me into his room. “What do you mean by he and knows?”

“My brother knows who I really love. He’s concerned that I’m lying to you.” I said with strain in my voice and sat down at the foot of his bed.

“Well what did he say after that?”

“He just said that he want me to talk to…well him… and break it off with you.” I said looking up at him. He just started laughing, then stopped when he saw my serious face.

“Oh, well then we’ll act something out and that’s all.” He said simply shrugging his shoulders.

“It’s not that simple. He’s hiding something.” I pressed.

“But he is your brother and for once he might actually want to be on your side.”

“Why would he do that?” I wondered.

“Because right now you’re on his side and he probably doesn’t want anything to be between you guys. Just try to get along with him for ONCE in your lifetime.” Ryan basically begged and made a puppy dog face.

“Really, Ry, really?” I growled because I knew I was going to crack soon.

“Yes, Avery dear, really.” He said and I groaned and hid my face in my hands.

“Don’t worry, I’ll just start a fight tonight, and you will lash out on me. Let’s just hope that Brendon doesn’t kill me after it.”

“I can see wheels turning in you evil head.” I said looking up at him and he just laughed. “What do you have planned?” I asked and he smiled.
*an hour later*

Living room of the Dandy mansion. A large audience. Just what we need.

I saw Ryan walk in and go over to me. Everyone’s attention was on us. Including Brendon and William.

As usual, Ryan kissed me and we leaned away from each other.

“I love you, Ryan.” I said.

“I love you too, Marie.” He said and my eyes widened and all of the Dandies gasped and William got out of his seat in shock.

“What?” my voice cracked. “You still love her don’t you?!” I yelled at him and Ryan just opened and closed his mouth trying to find an answer to his mistake.

“Avery, I didn’t mean that.” He stuttered out and I just slapped him across his face.

“You go girl!” I heard someone yell from the crowd and I tried to ignore them.

“Avery, you know I love you.” Ryan begged.

“You never loved me!” I yelled back as tears rolled down my cheeks. “The only reason you ever went out with me back in school is to make her jealous!” I yelled back.

“Oh, look who’s talking!” he yelled back.

Ryan, what are you doing?

“Don’t you remember why you went out with ME?!” he yelled.

Ryan stop.

“You never cared about me!” he yelled.

GEORGE RYAN ROSS III!!!!

Sorry, I was on a roll.

I will kill you with that roll.

Sorry!

“Well I wonder why!” I yelled back.

“So you admit that you didn’t have any feelings for me in the first place?!” he yelled.

“No! I loved you! You used me!” I yelled as I forced more tears out of my eyes. “I don’t want to see you ever again!”

“What?! I’m the one who actually loved you while you went out with me to make Bre”

“Don’t you dare to finish that sentence.” I threatened and his eyes widened because I wasn’t acting right now.

“You know what, I won’t. You’re not worth it.” he spat with a voice full of venom and looked me in the eyes.

You’re still my bestie so don’t hold this against me.

Don’t worry, I won’t, but you almost said the truth.

Well excuse me for being a good actor!

You’re excused. Now go and pretend that you’re mad at me and that you hate me.

What a wonderful goodbye.

Shut up and go.

Fine, see ya later.

See ya.

And with that he stormed out of the room and up the stairs. It was dead quiet in the room and I still forced tears out of my eyes. I was too focused on my act and I didn’t notice how someone wrapped their arms around me and pulled me into their chest. I inhaled their scent and realized that it was my brother. Thank god.

“Come to my office, we need to talk.” He whispered and I nodded as I wrapped my arms around him and he walked us to his room. As soon as we were inside and the door was closed I let go of him and he started clapping.

“Bravo! Such a wonderful performance, I’m proud of you.” he said smiling and I looked at him like he was crazy.

“I just had my heart broken and you think that this is fucking funny? I’ve loved him my whole life and here he is blaming me for not loving him. He used me!” I yelled as more tears streamed down my face.

“Avery, cut the crap.” William rolled his eyes and I just sighed and wiped all of my tears.

“How did you know?” I asked and he just chuckled.

“I heard you guys talking in Ryan’s room.” He laughed a bit and I just shook my head.

“I should’ve known.” I mumbled and he just chuckled. “What do you want, William, just come out and say it.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Why are you being nice to me? You’ve never been this nice to me, even when we were little. Never.” I said and he frowned.

“Why can’t you just accept that I want my sister back?”

“Because the last time you said that my home was destroyed by your precious little princesses.” I snapped at him.

“Look, I’m sorry but I couldn’t have you being friends with the fighters. With you on their team I’m vulnerable.” He said.

“So you didn’t care that you’re ruining your family and you just went for it?”

“No! I’m sorry for what I did! I was selfish! And I’m sorry that I used Brendon to get to you!” he yelled and my eyes widened as well as his.

“You what?” I managed to let out.

“N-Nothing.” He stuttered.

“You used him? How did you use him?” I demanded and he took a step back because he saw that my hands were burning in fire right now.

“I knew how he felt about you and I threatened to kill you if he didn’t do what I asked. That’s why he ignored you for all these years and why he stabbed you.” he said quietly and I just came up to him and slapped him across his face as hard as I could.

“How could you?” I snapped at him.

“I didn’t know what else to do?! I was out of options!” he yelled.

“You could’ve talked to me! I’m your sister after all!” I yelled and he just fell back in his chair from the power of my voice.

“You would have never listened to me!”

“How long have you known that I love him?” I asked.

“Since the beginning, but I never knew that you still loved him.”

“Then why didn’t you just take a chance and use me?” I asked. “I don’t care if you use me, as long as he’s safe and by now you know that.”

“Why are you yelling at me now?” he snapped. “You can still be with him!”

“Really? You think it’s that simple?”

“Isn’t it?!” he yelled back and I just laughed.

“He hates my guts! You ruined my life! What else are you going to take away from me?!” I yelled as real tears started flowing down my cheeks.

“Avery, come here.” He said softly as he pulled me into his chest. I didn’t resist this time. I really needed someone right now. “I really messed up this time, didn’t I?” he whispered and I nodded. “Well thanks for your support.” He mumbled making me laugh a bit. “There you go, no reason to cry.” He said in a baby voice making me laugh more.

“No reason? Really?” I asked as I looked up at him. “The only person that I loved turned their back on me all because on you.” I said looking at him.

“I’m sorry!” he yelled. “I’m really, truly sorry this time. I would do anything you asked just forgive me!” he yelled and got on his knees and started hugging my legs.

“Dude! What are you going?!” I yelled.

“Forgive me! Please!” he whined and yelled while I stared at him in horror.

“Fine, fine!” I yelled and pulled him up. Then we burst out laughing. “Just don’t do this again, you scarred me for life!” I laughed and he nodded.

“Okay, I promise.” He said.

“Thanks, Willy.” I said and he smiled wide.

“You called me Willy.” He said smiling and I nodded. “Does this mean we’re on good terms now?” he asked and I nodded.

“And if I kill a lot of Dandies, it’s not my fault.” I mumbled and he laughed.

“As long as I’m not one of them, I could care less.” He laughed and I did the same. “You’ve been through a lot today, you should go get some rest now.” He said and I nodded and leaned to kiss his cheek and he did the same with me.

“Goodnight.” I mumbled.

“Goodnight.” I heard him say before I went out of his office and started walking towards Brendon’s my room.

“Avery.” I heard from behind me and I turned to see Ryan. “What did he want?”

“Nothing, turns out that he knew that we were faking cuz he heard us talking in your room.” I said with a chuckle.

“What did he do?”

“Nothing, we’re on good terms now, and I have a permission to kill all the Dandies I want.” I said with a wide smile and he looked at me in shock.

“And this is my que to leave.” He said and started backing away from me and I just glared at him he just laughed. “I’m kidding. And since everything’s okay now, I’m gonna go to bed, night.” He said and I waved him goodbye as I kept walking to my room.

I quietly opened the door and walked in. I saw that Brendon was awake. He was just lying on the bed and staring up at the ceiling. When I shut the door he looked over to me, but didn’t say a word.

“Are you okay?” he asked and that’s when I realized that he thought that Ryan and I were for real.

“Yeah, it wasn’t a big deal.” I said and he raised his eyebrow. “Ryan and I were never a couple.” I said.

“What?” he asked obviously hurt.

“Yeah.” I said and started making my way to the bathroom so I could go to sleep.

“I have a question.” He said and I turned to him as if saying to continue. “When you two were fighting, or pretending, Ryan said that you only went out with him to make someone jealous.” He said and I nodded. “You shut Ryan up before he could finish the name. Who was he talking about?” he asked and I took a deep breath. I might as well tell him. What do I have to lose?

“You really want to know?” I asked.

“Yeah, who was it?” he asked. I took a deep breath and turned to him.

You.

And before he could say another word I locked the bathroom door and went to sleep. Or at least tried to.
