Chapter Fourteen: Apologies

I hurried into my apartment and leaned against the back of the door, shaking. I still felt his lips on mine. I reached up and grazed me hands against my lips. I couldn’t help but feel… well… a million different emotions at ones time.

I was happy that he finally kissed me, but I was upset because he kind of just… left.

I scared of what this meant for us, and I regretted snapping at him the way I did.

I couldn’t help but cry. I didn’t know what to feel anymore.

I woke up late the next morning. I had cried myself to sleep, still in my dress. I stripped down and got straight in the shower. After I threw on some sweats, I walked out to the kitchen and found a note from Dan and Morgan that told me to meet them at the church at 2 o’clock. Since my dress was waiting for me at the church, I had no choice but to walk there in my sweats.

I found Morgan getting ready and having a panic attack on the top floor of the church. I knew I had to look past my own emotional problems. My best friend was getting married today, for God’s sake.

“Ellie! Oh God, where have you been? Ugh. You need to get your hair curled. Where’s your dress? Why are you late?” Morgan asked. I couldn’t help but smile a little.

“Relax, I kind of… ran into some one,” I said, laughing a little.

“Oh, God. Was it Rupert? What happened? Is everything okay?” she asked. The woman was a mess. There’s no way I could have made it any worse with my petty drama.

“No, no. It was someone I met at the market the other day. I left my wallet behind, she brought it back for me,” I lied. She breathed a sigh of relief.

“So where’s your dress?” she asked.

“That note said my dress was here,” I said. Her eyes got wide.

“It did?! Shit! Daniel must have it in the other room! Okay, I know it’s bad luck for the bride to see the groom before the wedding, but what about the bride’s best friend? Does that count too?” she said. I laughed and shook my head.

“No, I think I’ll be fine. I’ll be right back,” I said. I headed down the stairs and toward the back of the church when Dan and the other guys were getting ready.

“What are you doing back here?” Rupert’s voice chilled me to the bone. I didn’t even look in his direction. I couldn’t.

“I-I’m… I’m just getting my dress,” my voice was weak. He held up my bridesmaids dress in his hands. I took it gently then looked at him quickly.

“You’ll look… really beautiful in it. I can’t wait to see it on you,” he said, softly. I shook my head.

“It’s… just a dress,” I said. He took my hand softly. I pulled it away, shaking my head again.

“Ellie, I owe you an apology,” he said. I blinked away some hot tears.

“No… it was me. I’m sorry. I should have never-“

“No, really. I should have never-“

“Guys! I’m getting married in three minutes! Are you coming or not?!” Morgan shouted from down the hall. I bit my lip and looked at him. He gave me a half smile and walked back to the guys’ room.

I slid the dress on in record time and got in a line outside the chapel.

It’s show time.
