We've Got It All Figured Out... For Now

Wrong Question

I feel… weird this morning. It’s been a little over a week since I signed those lovely papers. We have our court date, but it’s not for about another month. It’s just weird to think about. I’ll be Ms. Vaughn again… and not… Mrs. Potter.

“Good morning, mommy,” Mason grinned brightly once I walked down the stairs, ready for work.

“Why are you so nice this morning?” I asked him, looking at Tanner sideways. What did he feed that boy?

“Apple Jacks!” he shouted excitedly while pumping his fists in the air.

“Tanner, do you know how much sugar is in one cup of those little Os?” I shot at him, bringing his smile through.

“It’s what he wanted. Plus, it’s apple. It’s healthy,” he chuckled, knowing he was so wrong.

“And you went to college,” I taunted, picking Jayden up from his high chair, bouncing him around before I had to leave.

Even though I’ve been staying at Tanner’s, nothing’s been happening between us. I sleep in the guest room with Jayden. Mason has his own room along with Tanner. I wasn’t about to even think about giving Tanner another chance until this divorce was settled. I feel horrible enough as it is.

“Do you guys want to go see Aunt Kirstie when I get home from work?” I asked, looking between my boys.

“Yeah! I haven’t seen Emma,” Mason replied, making me smile.

“You still like that girl, Mase?” Tanner teased.

“Oh, you missed it. They’re married,” I smiled.

“What? And you couldn’t even tell your daddy?” Tanner shot at him playfully.

“But you would say we weren’t ready,” Mason shot back at Tanner, making both of us laugh.

“Little lady’s man,” Tanner went on to giggle.

“Wonder where he gets that from,” I smirked, making him roll his eyes playfully.

I smiled and went on to give my two boys kisses before I left. Tanner said he had them handled today… like he did every day. Once I got to my office, I actually smiled as I eased into my rolly chair. I was… happy today.

As the day went on, I actually got a lot done. Kirstie was still on ‘vacation’ from work… even though the Grants got back from Florida almost three days ago. It’s understandable though. She loves her Grant Gang.

Once my day was through, I drove back to Tanner’s to change into comfy clothes and pick up my babies. The second I walked through the door, I stopped short. Jayden was… standing… by himself! Oh my gosh!

“There’s mommy. Go get her!” Tanner encouraged him, a few steps behind.

“Come to mommy, sweetie,” I smiled while bending down to his level.

He giggled at me before he took a few stomping steps and then fell. Aw. I smiled and went on over and scooped him up, leaving kisses all over his face.

“We’ve been trying all day,” Tanner sighed playfully, sounding exhausted.

“Aw, was Tanner helping you,” I cooed while lifting him into the air.

“Can we go see Emma now?” Mason asked impatiently.

“Let me change first, honey,” I giggled.

“He’s been asking to see her all day,” Tanner piped in, causing Mason to send him a little glare.

I bent down to kiss Mason and then I went and changed before my Masey had a hissy fit. Once he was finally buckled into the car, he was rambling on about Emma. It was adorable. Those two are so cute.

It was even cuter when they saw each other. They ran towards one another before sharing a hug. Aw. I let them have their moment as I walked in with Jayden and shared a hug with Josh and Kirstie since I hadn’t seen them for a while.

“How was Disney?” I asked through a smile.

“Wrong question,” Josh chuckled once Kirstie’s face lit up.

She then went on to show me every single picture that she took… and she had to explain all of them… all of them. I love this girl to death, but… a few pictures could have gone without sharing a whole story.

“So… how have you been?” she asked once her little Disney album was closed.

“I’ve had my moments this week, but for the most part I’ve been… good,” I said though a small smile.

“Really?” Kirstie asked as if she hadn’t believed me.

“Yeah,” I replied while placing Jayden down on the floor to play with Christian. “I mean… I don’t like that it came to what it came too, but it… happened,” I shrugged, not knowing what else to say.

“So, you and Tanner…” Josh spoke up.

“No… I’m just staying at his place right now. He helps me with the kids and is kind of there for me. But until everything’s final, nothing’s going to happen,” I told them.

They nodded their heads, acknowledging what I said. But this new awkwardness filled the room. Peachy. I’m trying not to bring everyone down and this happens. But Emma and Mason came running over. Mason had to show off the Buzz Light Year necklace Emma got for him. It was cute. It made the awkwardness go away a little. I hope this isn’t a reoccurring thing when I’m around my two friends. I’m. ok with what’s happen… I hope they can be too.
