Blue Moon

Worried Sick

I woke groggily with someone shaking me. I looked up and saw Emily looking down at me. “Come on sleepy head get up,” she said.

I sat up and yawned,”How long was I asleep,” I asked. “Well let's see we talked for like an hour so I'd say for six hours,” she said.

My eyes almost popped out of my head,”Six hours?!” I said loudly.

“I believe so,” she said.

“Oh gosh I'm sorry,” I said.

“Why are you apologizing? Your still healing and you have that stupid curse that's making you weaker, of course your tired,” she said.

I smiled,”Thanks Emily,” I said standing up. I looked out her window and saw the sun setting and the moon rising. The moon was huge, it was full. Wait it was full!

“I have to go to Mr. Donner's!” I exclaimed.

“Why?” asked Emily confused.

“Will needs me,” I said.

“What's wrong with Will?” she asked.

I really wanted to tell her, so I went over and shut the door. “If I tell you, you promise with your life you will not tell anyone,” I said seriously.

“Yes,” she said just as seriously.

I took a breath, ”Will is a werewolf,” I said.

Her eyes went wide,”What!” she exclaimed loudly.

I shushed her,” Please don't tell anyone but I need to go help him tonight,” I said.

“Why?” she asked.

“It's a full moon,” I said.

“Ooh,” she said. I got up and exited the room quickly and changed into one of my normal everyday dresses.

Emily stood in my doorway silently. “I think you should be with Will,” said Emily behind me.

I turned confused. “What?” I asked.

“Eliza as long as I've been here, I've never scene you so concerned over something,” she said.

“Well it's Will,” I said.

“Exactly, it's Will,” she said. I stopped,”Your right,” I said.

“I know I am,” she said.

“But I can't think about this now,” I said and hastily walked out my door and tried to walk as fast as I could down the stairs.

“How are you going to get there?” she asked. I stopped and looked outside the window and saw the a horse tied up to the pole outside.

“Horseback,” I said starting towards the door.

“Elizabeth no! You'll make you lashes bleed doing that!” she said grabbing my arm.

“I have to Emily,” I said desperately.

She looked at me for a minute before releasing my arm,”Be careful,” she said sternly.

“Thank you! If my mother asks were I am just say I went for a walk,” I said.

She nodded her head,”Wait do you need help getting on the horse?” she asked.

I thought about me trying to get on a horse,”Yes,” I said.

We went outside and I untied the horse. I stepped up while Emily stood waiting,”Ready?” she asked. I nodded and I stepped up on her hand and swung my leg over. “You okay?” she asked worriedly. “Yes,” I said.

“Okay now go help Will,” she said I smiled a little and took off.

The pain shooting through my back was burning I almost stopped as soon as I started but I knew I had to help Will. I rode in complete pain to Mr. Donner's house. I arrived and slowed the horse down. I swung my leg over and hopped down without thinking. The sudden impact made my knees buckle out from under me and I just fell down to the ground. I grunted out in pain and mentally slapped myself for being stupid. I shakily got up and patted my hair down, which was now pretty much completely down so I just took the clip out and let me hair fall. I walked up and knocked on the door. I waited a minute before Mr. Donner answered it.

“What are you doing her Elizabeth?” he asked confused.

“I'm here to see Will,” I said.

He automatically knew what I was talking about. “I don't know dear he's been in a fowl mood all day,” he said unsure.

“Please I just want to make sure he's okay,” I said.

“Fine,” he said stepping aside to let me in.

“He's in the small guest house I have down by the stables,” he said.

“Thank you,” I said and started walking toward the stables. I saw the small guest house in sight and I continued towards it even though I was in a good amount of pain.

I got the door and knocked on it. He didn't answer so I knocked again. I sighed in frustration and turned to walk away but I saw him standing there. I jumped in surprise,”You scared me,” I said with my hand covering my speeding heart.

“ Sorry. Why are you here?” he asked.

“I wanted to make sure your okay,” I said worriedly.

He rolled his eyes,”I'm fine Elizabeth, I've been through the transformation a lot of times now,” he said with a look of his face that told me he thought I was overreacting.

“Besides it's dangerous for you to be around me right now,” he said walking past me to the guest house.

“From what I saw last week, I think I have a right to be worried the slightest bit,” I said.

“Elizabeth please just go home,” he said.

“I can't for awhile,” I said.

He turned around,”Why?” he asked confused.

“I kind of rode a horse here and my back might hurt,” I said sheepishly.

His eyes went wide,”Jesus Elizabeth! You could have opened those lashes back up! You could have got more hurt than you already are,” he said irritated.

“I'm fine really Will,” I said.

“Fine you can stay for awhile I guess but you have to leave when I go down the chamber,” he said.

I nodded and followed him inside. The guest house was small but quaint. A bed was in the corner and had a small table next to it. There was a fireplace for what I'm guessing was used for heat and a couch in front of it with another small coffee table. There were a few rugs that laid on the wooden floor and there were few windows that were on the walls.

“This is nice,” I said sitting on the couch.

“Thank my Uncle, he provided it for me,” he said sitting on the couch next to me. “You really don't have to worry Elizabeth.”

“I do though. I mean watching how you were transforming...it was almost unbearable to watch,” I said.

“I can hurt you, badly though. Once I'm in the transformation stage, I'm not there anymore,” he said seriously.

“I know but just thinking that you have to go through it alone makes me feel so bad,” I said.

He scoffed leaning back against the couch,”I don't want your pity Elizabeth,” he said.

I narrowed my eyes at him,”You could just let me feel bad and not say anything to make me feel worse you know,” I said.

“I'm sorry,” he said. “But you have no idea how much of it I get. Like I'm not normal because I am,”

“I know you are but your human and you have to have someone to lean on, to help you out Will. You can't keep doing it alone,” I said.

“It's dangerous,” he said.

“I know it is but I really want to help you Will,” I said.

“No your not going to help me,” he said.

“Please Will. I won't be able to sleep tonight while your bones are breaking,” I said.

“You'll be fine,” he said stubbornly.

I groaned,”Will! Just stop being so hard headed and let me help you! Please,” I pleaded.

“As long as I get to help you,” he bargained.

“How so?” I asked.

“Let me tell my Uncle about what your mother did,” he said.

“No. Absolutely not,” I said crossing my arms.

“Elizabeth she abused you. You can barely walk normally,” he said.

“Will I have it under control,” I said.

“No Elizabeth, she did it once, she can do it again,” he said.

“Will I'm not making this about me. This is about you,” I said.

“I'm making this about you,” he said.

“No your not Will,” I argued. “I rode over here on horse back, when I clearly shouldn't be, and I'm sure as hell going to help you whether you like it or not. Now if you can't deal with that I'll just leave and I won't come back,” I said defiantly.

He ran a hand over his face and hair in frustration. “Why are you being so difficult?” he groaned.

“Why are you?” I retorted.

“I'm not, I'm being reasonable,” he said.

“No Will, you really aren't,” I said.

He sat there in thought for a minute or two before he spoke,”Fine you can stay for only a little while but as soon as I go into transformation and you know I'm not there anymore, you leave,” he said.

“Okay,” I said happily.

“You have to promise me Elizabeth, or I will never forgive myself for letting you stay,” he said seriously.

“With my life,” I said.

He sighed,”I don't go down until nine o'clock so we have awhile,” he said.

“I can stay,” I said.

“Were talking about what happened though,” he said.

I groaned,”I don't want to talk about it thought! She had the grounds keeper whip me, I cried and screamed, I got over it, and now I hate her with a passion.” I said.

“I want the full story Elizabeth. It's not like your mother to do that,” he said.

I paused,”I know,” I whispered.

“Do you have any idea why she changed so suddenly,” he asked.

“No I really don't. Her latest comment to me was that I wasn't even worth more to her than the ground she walked on,” I said in despair. “And to top that she's made it official that if I don't find a husband soon she will disown me and I will be on the streets,” I said with dry humor.

Will didn't say anything as I stared down at my hands but I could feel his stare on me. I saw him take my hands in his and that safe feeling returned,”I swear I will not let anything happen to you,” he said.

“Will you don't have to do that,” I said.

“Elizabeth I care about you and it's like you helping me, it's not debatable, I'm protecting you,” he said.

I could of kissed him right then and there. “Okay Will,” I said.

“Good,” he said letting go of my hands and my heart protested.

“Well what do we do until nine?” I asked.

“I usually work some more,” he said.

“Oh sorry I can just stay here while you finish up your work,” I said quickly.

“No I'm tired of doing work,” he said.

“You don't get days off?” I asked.

“My uncle insists that I do every once in a while but I came her to work so I can live here and that's what I'm going to do,” he said.

“I can respect that but you shouldn't work yourself to hard,” I said.

“It's a nice outlet for the anger I get regularly,” he said.

“I see your point,” I said. He chuckled a bit at nothing.

“What are you laughing at?” I asked curious.

“I'm thinking of the time we first met,” he said.

I laughed a little,”I am sorry about being so mean,” I said.

“It okay I wasn't any better,” he said.

“No you weren't,” I said smilingly.

“You made me so mad though, you know how to get under my skin like no one else,” he said.

“I'll take that as a compliment,” I said proudly.

“Take it as you want,” he said waving his hand.

Will and I talked for hours until he check the watch for the time. He looked up at me,”It's time,” he said getting up.

I got up after him and brushed my dress off. He walked to the door and we both walked out into the yard. We walked in silence and I could help but feel scared and nervous for him. We reached the back door and he turned to me,”Let me make sure the coast is clear because my uncle would never let you down there with me,” he said.

I nodded and he stepped in, walking around before he motioned me in. I quietly stepped in and followed him to the library. I pulled the lever and the door opened wit him entering first. The door closed behind me and we started down the stairs. Torches on the wall lit the way down the stairs and the hall way but in front of us was a dark space. “Hold on,” he said grabbing a torch and started lighting the other ones in the empty room in front of us.

I stepped down in the room and the event from last time I was in here filled my head. “How did you see where your were going?” I asked.

“Being a werewolf has it's perks, like better vision and hearing than other people,” he said smirking.

“Lucky,” I muttered and walked around the room. I heard Will lifting the chains that were going to keep him down.

“Those look heavy,” I said walking over.

“They have to be or I'll just rip them right of when I'm completely transformed,” he said.

“Do you need any help?” I asked.

“No I got it,” he said. I walked over to the wall in front of him and sat down on the ground. He chained himself in and did some tugs on them to make sure they didn't come loose.

“Do those keep you down all night?” I asked.

“No I've got out of them a few times,” he said.

“I can tell. There are claw marks on the wall,” I said.

“How did you get completely out that one night?” I asked.

“What night?” he asked.

“The night I saw you. You looked right at me. You were practically in my back yard but in the field area,” I said shivering at the memory.

“I can never remember what I did when I'm a werewolf,” he said.

“It's half after nine,” he said looking at the watch.

“What time do you usually start?” I asked anxious.

“About quarter till,” he said.

“Does it start off like I saw?” I asked. “

No it's gradually progresses,” he said. I nodded and looked down.

“I'll be okay Eliza,” he said.

I popped my head back up a smiled,”You called me Eliza,” I said.

“Did I?” he asked.

“You did,” I said still smiling. I liked they way it sounded coming from his mouth.

“I'm sorry, I can call you Elizabeth,” he said.

“No I like Eliza better,” I said.

“I'll try not to worry to much though,” I said.

“Good,” he said.

We sat there and waited for it to start. I was constantly messing with my hair or the hem of my dress from being so anxious.

“Stop fretting,” he said.

“I'm sorry I can't help it,” I said. I looked at him and notice the sweat gathering on him.

“It's starting isn't it?” I asked scooting closer.

“Yes,” he said swallowing.

“I'll be right here,” I said.

“I know you will,” he said slightly agitated. He grunted a little as he grew paler.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yes I'm fine,” he said. I figured the more I talked, the more irritated he would get so I just held his hand and he didn't seem to mind. I was messing with his fingers mindlessly until he inhaled sharply in pain. I snapped my head up and looked at him. His eyes were tightly shut and his eyebrows were tightly knitted in pain.

I rubbed up and down his arm soothingly,”Your okay,” I said. He didn't respond and I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing. I kept soothing him and repeating little nothings to him to keep him calm.

I was down there for a least and hour before he finally said something,”You should go now,” he said.

“No not yet. Not until your eyes change and you lose yourself. Your still here,” I said.

“I don't want you getting hurt,” he said tiredly.

“I'm fine Will,” I said. He didn't say anything else as he groaned every few minutes. It was like he was a zombie but it's always calm before the storm.

I sat there worried because he was to quiet. Suddenly his hand twitch and his nostrils flared a little. He was twitching all over before I heard the first sickening snap come from his arm. He yelled out in pain and whimpered. I immediately came up and hugged him tightly.

“Your okay,” I said.

“Go,” he said quietly.

“Not yet,” I said.

He leaned his head against my shoulder as he breathed heavily. His body started to twitch again and I knew something else was going to break. I let got of him a waited. The snap came from his ribcage area as he yelled in pain again. I could see some ribs sticking out and lifted his shirt a little. I felt a tear go down my cheek, I felt so bad for him.

I went over to him and stroked his face,”I'm right here Will,” I said.

He looked up and his pupils were dilating fast. I could see the Will I knew fading and the wolf taking over. I moved the hair out of his face and kept comforting him. After a minute his hand came up and grabbed mine, I didn't know what he was going to do. He brought my hand to his lips and kissed my hand. I held my breath as butterflies rose a little in my stomach.

“I can feel it coming. You need to leave. Now,” he said with a trembling voice.

I could tell by the way his body was shaking and let out little pops that a huge break was coming soon. “Okay Will but I will be back first thing in the morning,” I said looking at him seriously.

“Go,” he said as his eyes turned the now familiar yellow color. I got up and rushed to the stairs. As soon as I got to them a very loud crack echoed through the chamber as a low growl erupted. I gulped and raced up the stairs and to the door pushing the brick lever down. The door opened and I quietly exited. Mr. Donner was no where in sight so I walked quietly to the front door and slipped out.

I untied my horse and used all my strength to hoist myself up. I got situated and galloped back towards my house. I arrived and carefully tied the horse back up to the pole. The front door opened and I froze scared but Emily's head popped out and I slid into the house. We quietly made our way up the stairs to my room and she shut the door.

“Oh you have no idea how furious you mother is,” she said quietly.

“I know but Will let me stay until he started to transform,” I said.

“How was that?” she asked.

I shook my head,” I didn't know what to do. I wanted to comfort him but he was just so close to going over the edge I didn't know if what I was doing actually helped,” I said.

She came up and hugged me,”Everything will be okay,” she said.

“I know,” I said.

“Now get some sleep because your mother is going to work you hard tomorrow or beat you,” she said.

I nodded solemnly and she turned and left my room. I sighed and turned to my closet and took off my dress and put my night gown on. I climbed in bed and felt my body ache from the day. I sighed and I tossed and turned. I was to worried about will, I was never going to fall asleep. I laid there in the dark for what seemed hours, as I stared at the wall. I heard then probably the most beautiful sound I could ever hear; a howl. I quickly climbed out of bed and looked out my window for him. I searched and searched and then I spotted him on the edge of the woods. I smiled and returned to bed. I soon fell asleep knowing that Will was okay.
