Luck Loves Me Not Tonight.

I've got four wheels that say I'm not alone tonight,

Skylar got home around 3:31.. Her father’s curfew was 3:25.. She was bound to get hurt but.. When did she not? She walked into the house quietly, Hoping for no one to hear but, She wasn’t that lucky.

“Where the fuck have you been?!” Sky’s father boomed as he pounded down the stairs, Cigarette in hand. Sky flinched slightly at the tone of his voice but then relaxed as she threw off her shoes.

“I was walking home. It takes longer to get home than the time you give me dad!” Sky shouted loudly but couldn’t help but cower back as her father took a few deadly steps towards her. He took a long drag of his cigarette before putting out the stub on her arm and blowing out the smoke Into his daughters face. Sky screamed quietly as the cigarette burned her skin. He grabbed his daughter by the hair and threw her forcefully down onto the floor as he kicked and kicked. Piercing screams echoed through the house as each kick hurt the young girl more and more. The pain searing through Sky’s body contorted her frame into a ball as her Dad took out all his anger.

“You’re a fucking good for nothing bitch!” He shouted as his fists flew about frantically, Hitting Sky hard in the eye. No way was that being hidden at school.. It would be impossible. Once her father had finally taken out his anger, the pounding on her small frame stopped as he walked out of the kitchen quickly. Sky slowly stood up, Grabbing onto anything she could to steady herself. She hissed out in pain as she pulled up her top, Looking down at the already forming bruise on her side. She couldn’t risk staying so close to him. Sky headed as quickly as she could through the kitchen and up the stairs, ready to just be away from the world. More than anything, Away from her father. Once she got to her room she ran inside, Instantly locking her door behind her. She fell onto the bed with a thud and groaned out in pain as it put pressure on her stomach. She slowly stood back up before going over to a mirror hanging on her black wall. Sky gasped softly at her reflection as a few soft tears flowed down her cheeks. She looked awful. The blood was still dripping from her nose as a black eye was also starting to form. She quickly wiped away all the dried blood before calling her best friend.

“Hello?” Cassie asked into the phone as Sky sobbed softly on the other line.

“I don’t know how much longer I can take this, Cass.” Sky said, More tears falling down her bruised cheeks.

“Skylar.. What’s happened?” Cassie asked as the red head cried, Her sobs getting louder and the tears flowing down faster.

“He did a number on me.” Sky said with a fake soft chuckle as Cassie sighed softly on the other end.

“Sky.. You don’t deserve this babe..” Cassie said as Sky nodded softly as she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand.

“Only another year Cass.. Then I’ll be free.” Sky said with a soft smile at the thought. She could do whatever she wanted.. No Daddy was there to tell her what to do. It would be like heaven. “I think I’m just gonna go straight to bed Cass. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Sky said with a soft yawn. Once Cassie had said bye she hung up the phone and crawled into bed, Pulling the covers over her head before falling asleep.

Once Sky woke up that morning, she instantly climbed into the shower before blow drying her hair and attempting to cover up the nasty bruise on her cheek. Nothing she attempted worked. She’d used multiple foundations and cover ups but, None of them worked. They faded it slightly but nothing more. Once she was sure she looked as best as she could, She threw on her clothes for the day. Remembering to cover up the beautiful cigarette mark on her arm that her Father left. Once she was okay with her reflection she ran out of the house as fast as she could. She sighed softly as the wind blew through her hair, instantly making her forget about the world as she walked towards her high school. Once she arrived she saw Cassidy. But she wasn’t on her own.. Alex and jack were there.. She saw Sky and instantly engulfed her in a hug, Only to let go a few seconds later as the red head hissed at the pressure on her fucked up stomach.

“Sky, baby. What the fuck has he done to you.” Cassie said, soft tears forming in her green eyes. Sky hugged her best friend softly, looking over her shoulder as she did so to see the two boys staring at them curiously. “Come on, Let’s go up there.” Cassie said with a sniffle as she grabbed Sky’s hand and dragged her over to where the boys were stood. She stood with her head down mostly, the boys were completely oblivious to her bruises and, she was glad. Did they really need to know? The bell rang indicating their first lesson and Sky sighed heavily as she realised she was with none other than Jack Barakat. They walked into the classroom and instantly took their seats beside each other. Jack couldn’t help but think something was different about Sky Simmons.. Her face mostly brushed into her face. It wasn't like her. Sky couldn’t help but push stray hairs behind her ears as she answered the complicated questions in her book but, She soon regretted it.

“What the fuck happened!?” Jack shouted quietly and Sky took in a deep breath as she looked at him, Her golden eyes showing no emotion.

“Leave it, Jack.” Sky said quietly as Jack continued to look.

“Look, Sky, Just because we don’t get on, doesn’t mean that I’m a heartless bastard. What happened?” He said as he continued to stare at the purple bruises. Sky let out a shaky breath as she stared down at her work book.

“It’s none of your fucking business, Barakat.” Sky hissed before collecting her belongings and walking out of the classroom. She carried on walking till she came to the door of the school that went out into forests and fields. She sat down underneath a shady tree and brought her knees up to her chest, sobbing softly. Completely ignoring the footsteps that were heading in her direction. She heard shuffling besides her and turned her head slightly to see Jack by her side, shifting awkwardly on the ground.

“I know our families hate each other, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care, Sky. What happened?” Jack asked, he was actually worrying about the girl. He knew how dangerous her father could be, but.. He wouldn’t do something like this, would he?

“It’s nothing Jack.. I just.. Got into a fight that’s all..” Sky said with a soft sigh. She knew she couldn't lie but, it was her only option at the moment. If Jack found out her father physically abused her, it would be the end of everything. School was all she had left to be happy, and she intended to keep that piece of happiness.

“Sky, I know more about you than you obviously know. I know you’d never get into a fight. Your not like that.” Jack said, his tone calm and caring. He was starting to see Sky Simmons in a different light.. One where she was a small fragile, broken girl.. The damage on her small body too much to bare. She was no longer the fiery, stubborn redhead she was before. And he didn’t like it at all.. He wanted to be the one to pick up her broken pieces.. But he knew that wasn’t possible.

“Why are you acting as though you know so much about my life? It’s my life Jack, not yours.” Sky said harshly as she tried desperately to moved a few inches away from him, But to no avail. He grabbed her wrists softly.

“Sky, I want to help. Nothing else. I don’t want to humiliate you, if that’s what you think.. Our families may hate each other but that doesn’t mean we have to.” Jack said, her bottom lip quivered softly as she shook her head.

“You have no idea what would happen to me if I did talk to you.. I’d get this and then some.” Sky said with a fake giggle as Jack tugged at pieces of the green grass. “I’m kidding.” I said quietly as Jack nodded softly.

“I think we need to at least.. Try to get along.. Our friends are getting extremely close and.. I can’t stand the awkwardness for much longer.” Jack said as Sky sighed softly before nodding.

“True.. We should at least try.. I’m not promising anything though.” Sky said with a soft smile as Jack smiled back, his chocolate eyes staring back into her greeny blue ones. Sky put out her hand and he stared at her quizzically. “Lets at least try and start over?” She asked with a small laugh and he smiled softly as he placed his rough hand in hers.

“Yeah.” He said and Sky stood up, dusting off her shirt.

“We might actually want to go back to Chemistry soon..” Sky said awkwardly as Jack stood up too. They made their way back inside in a comfortable silence for once, soft smiles on their faces as they walked through the corridor and up to their Chemistry door. They walked inside and apologised to the teacher as they retook their seats at the back.

“Chemistry, Art and Government might not be awkward anymore.” Jack said with a soft laugh as Sky smiled over at him. Maybe being friends with Jack wasn’t such a bad thing for her.. She’d have another friend.. She could actually use a guy friend to talk to.. He was also one that already knew a little about her home life.. What her father was truly like behind closed doors. She’d been so brainwashed by her father’s words that she’d never even talked to Jack. She’d never gotten to know his nice, caring side. The one that was sweet and bubbly. She might actually be able to enjoy the company of Jack Barakat from now on..
