Always Something More

My eyes were widen and my mouth had dropped. I felt like I just got caught from doing something I shouldn't be doing. I finally snapped out of my thoughts and looked over at Andy who was still smiling and hadn't realized what was going on.

“We should probably go.” When he noticed the worry in my voice his smile faded and he looked at me in all seriousness.

“Oh okay, is everything okay?” he asked. I just nodded my head and gave him a weak smile.

“Um yeah, yeah.” we started to get closer to shoreline and he was just standing there with some blond chick. This is exactly what I thought would happen. The next day he would just forget about everything.

I suddenly felt so exposed in my bra and underwear, his eyes were all over me and so were the girl he was with. I could feel my cheek blush and I hurried to put my clothes on. I looked over at Andy had he got his jeans on so I grabbed his hand and started to pull him.

“Hey Rae.” Garrett said as if he was force to say something to me. I just looked at him, rolled my eyes as I passed him and his girl-friend.

“Come on Andy.” I squeezed his hand and he must of noticed that I didn't want to be here any more so he started to walk faster.

We were out of sight, walking back to my house. I just looked forward, I wasn't angry that he was with another girl no because I was just making out with Andy in the water, I was mad because he forgot about last night, the late night drunk phone call. The phone call where he told me how he felt about me, I don't even know if I should believe what he had said because of the alcohol, but then again alcohol makes you say stuff that your to scared to say. I was in my own little world while we were walking. Andy stopped walking and pulled my wrist, I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at him.

“What was that all about? Back at the pond?”

“That boy, that was Garrett, my ex-boyfriend. And he, hes just a jerk.” I said not wanting to think about last night.

“Oh Rae, I'm sorry. Do you want me to go back there and beat him up?” he said in all seriousness but I couldn't help but to smile and shake my head from side to side.

“Trust me it won't do anything. I just want to forget about him for the night and be with you.” I leaned up and gave him a kiss on lips and started to walk back to my house with our hands laced.

We got home, we both took showers and got into our pj's and cuddled on the couch and bought a movie off the T.V. I was leaning up against Andy's chest, and he had his arms around me and there was a big blanket covering us. I took a deep breath, filling my nostrils with Andy's scent it was a mix of Axe and tide detergent. I closed my eyes and just fell asleep right in his arms. As I was trying to fall asleep I thought about how I shouldn't have ever come back here, I should have stayed in Michigan with Andy. Arizona was my past and Andy was my future, we'd be going to college together and hopefully be together after that. I belonged in Michigan, not Arizona.

The next day I woke up in my bed, and I heard talking coming from down stairs. I stirred out of bed and made my way down stairs. Before I went down the stairs I peeked into Andy's room and saw him sleeping soundly, I shut his door softly trying not to make to much noise.

I got to the first floor and checked out the door window and saw Carmen’s car in the driveway, great. I walked softly to the kitchen, still trying to wake up. I saw Carmen and Kennedy sitting at the breakfast bar eating food, they didn't really have jobs so of course they came here and steal all the food.

“Hey.” I said and they both looked at me.

“Good Morning Rae!” Kennedy said.

“Whose car is in the drive way?” Carmen said quickly, I didn't get a good morning or a hello, she went straight to business.

“That's my friend from back home, Andy's. He's here for a few days.” I made my way over to the fridge to get some juice.

“Does dad know he's here?”

“Yes Carmen.” I said in an aggravated voice, it was to early for Carmen.

“Jeez you don't have to give me attitude.” I just rolled my eyes and let out huff.

I sat down next to Kennedy on the breakfast bar and just drank my juice. I leaned my head on Kennedy's shoulder and closed my eyes. I stayed like that for a few moments until Kennedy spoke up.

“I can't wait to meet him, he's the one who covered some of the bands songs right?” I lifted my head to look at him as he talked.

“Yup that's him. He'll probably freak when he wakes up and sees you here.” I said with a laugh.

“Oh jeez, I hope he's not obsessed with us.”

“I don't think he's like that.”

“As long as we don't have to put a restraining order on him, then it'll be fine.” we both laughed. I started to scoot back in my chair to leave.

“I'll go wake him up.” I got a small head nod from Kennedy but of course no response from Carmen.

I tip toed into his room as quietly as I could, trying not to make a sound. He was laying on his side away from me, so I decided to lay down in front of him and scoot my body up against him, I put his arm around me and it was pretty easy, he didn't wake up. I started to drift off to sleep again in his arms. If only I could do this every morning.

I felt a pair of lips kiss my neck, I opened my eyes and remember that I was in Andy's bed. I started to smile and turn to my other side so I could look at him.

“Good morning.” he said in a raspy voice.

“Good morning. Did you have a good sleep?” I said as I swiped his hair out of his eyes.

“I did actually, it was the best sleep I've gotten these past few days.”

“That's good to hear. Do you want breakfast.” his eyes lit up and he gave a smile. I took that as a yes.

“That would be great.” I started to move to get out of the bed but Andy's arms tightened around me.

“Not yet, I like this.” I shook my head and gave him a small peck on the lips. I curled up into him more and wrapped my arms around his waist. We stayed like that for a while, just holding each other.

“What are we doing today.” I heard him ask. I pulled away from him a tad so I could see his eyes.

“Um I'm not sure, is there anything you want to do?”

“It doesn't matter, as long as I'm with you.” I gave him a smile and gave him another kiss which he kissed back. We moved a little bit so we had a better angle to kiss each other. It started to get heated when he swiped his tongue across my bottom lip, he moved so he was hovering more over me and rested in between my legs. I pushed him back and moved so he would stop kissing me.

“Sorry, I got out of hand.” he said in a small pant.

I leaned up and gave him a small kiss, “don't worry about it.”

We got out of bed and Andy went to the bathroom and I told him that I'd be downstairs in the kitchen making some pancakes.

Kennedy and Carmen weren't in the Kitchen anymore but Carmen's car was still here so they must have been here some where. It made me think why they were both here. I didn't suspect that anything was going on between them because Kennedy was like me and Carmen's brother and she was older than him and she never liked younger guys, but it still made me wonder why they were both here.

“Making pancakes?” I heard Kennedy say excitingly, I turned around to see his goofy smile.

“Yes for Andy.” I saw his face fall and he looked so sad. “And for my best friend.” He lifted his head up and his smile was back.

“Where is he? You guys were up there for a while.” I was about to respond when he interrupted me. “Ew you guys didn't, you know?” he said in a scared voice.

“Kennedy! No I already told you we wouldn't. And not in your bed.” he gave a sigh of relief and as he sat back down at the breakfast bar Andy came strolling in looking so tired.

“There you are. I'm making pancakes I hope that's fine.”

“Yeah that's fine.” He looked up and saw Kennedy looking at him. When he saw Kennedy he got a confused look like he had seen him before.

“I'm Kennedy, you must be Andy.” Kennedy got up and put out his hand for Andy to take.

“Oh yeah nice to meet you, I've heard a lot about you.” I smiled seeing my best friend and the guy that I really like already getting along. I knew they would hit it off.

“What can I say.” he gave a small laugh. “I heard your covers and we should jam, I think the band is having practice soon, if your still in town you should come.”

“Oh your in a band?” he asked but then it hit him who he was talking to. “Oh wow, dude yeah. I totally forgot that Rae's best friends were The Maine. That would be so awesome to play with you guys.” I couldn't help but to smile. I'm glad that Kennedy really liked Andy, that's all I cared about, his opinion was the most important to me.

I finished making a batch of pancakes and some eggs for the boys and I. We ate and I cleaned up the kitchen quickly while Andy took a shower and got ready for the day. I was going up to my room when I saw Kennedy in the living room watching some T.V.

“So do you like him?” I asked as I leaned against the door frame. He looked over at me and and nodded his head.

“Yeah, he seems really chill. I definitely want to hang out with him some more.”

“Yeah, thanks for asking him to jam with him. I think he's pretty excited for that. Wheres your car by the way?”

“Oh I stayed at Jared's last night and when I woke up Carmen was there and she was a mess because of her fight with John so I decided to drive her back here.”

“Oh well if you want I can drop you off back at Johns in a bit.”

“Yeah, alright.” and with that I went up to my room to get ready for the day. I picked out shorts and light blue striped shirt. I didn't know what to do with Andy but I thought if I drove around, get In N Out for lunch since he's never had that before and just let the rest of the day go, it'd be fun.

We left the house around 11:50 and started to head towards Johns house, I didn't want to see him, I want to drop off Kennedy and go be with Andy, but fate wasn't in my favor today. As we got to Johns house he was jut getting out of his car. He looked into the car and realized it was us he walked over to my car and bent down to my window.

“Rae whats up?” he said with that adorable smile that I wanted to hate but couldn't,as he looked between me and Andy.

“Hey, dropping of Kennedy so he could get his car and the me and.. oh John this is Andy he's from back home.”

When he realized who Andy I saw his face drop a little but I don't think Andy noticed, “oh hey, I'm John.” he gave a small wave and Andy did the same.

“It's nice to meet you man. I'm a huge fan of The Maine.” he said with a smile.

John quickly looked at me then back at Andy, “oh no way, thanks for the support.”

“Well we better be get going. See you John.”' I said trying to get out of this situation that I didn't want to be in.

“Are you guys going to lunch, we should meet up.” John asked.

I looked over at Andy, “Oh um I don't know what were doing and...” I looked back at John and Andy spoke up. “Yeah I'm down if Rae is.” and right there I was forced to say yes, if I said no I would have to give a reason and I couldn't think of a good enough one. The only reason John wanted to go out with is was so he could question Andy and just be rude.

“Yeah I'll text you later.” I gave him a forced smile and started the car back up, we both gave each other waves and I was out of the drive way.

“I hope that its ok that he comes with us.” Andy said as he turned to look at me and I did the same.

“Oh yeah I mean I wanted to be with you for the day, but I also want you to do what you want to do. It's fine.” I gave him a smile and looked back to the road.

“Alright, we can go out to dinner tonight or something tonight just you and I.” I looked over at him with a huge smile,

“Yeah that sounds good.”

We drove around, he would see something and we'd stop to check it out. I took him to the main plaza in Arizona and walked around and it was going on 1:30 and our stomachs were starting to get hungry. I quickly typed out a message to John saying to meet us at a local diner, he replied with a simple 'Okay' and we started to make our way to the restaurant.

We headed to the restaurant and found a table. As me and Andy waited for John to get here, we sat next to each other and made small talk and occasional we sneaked a few kisses. We ordered some drinks and waited for a John who was starting to be late. 20 minutes later John strolled right in and didn't even think anything of it.

“We talked like a half hour ago saying to meet here, what happened?” I asked as he took a seat from across from me, he started to take off his sunglasses and just looked at me.

“Well your sister decided to come over and talk to me, and when I told her I had to leave because I was having lunch with you.” I whipped my head at him and just shot him the meanest look I could.

“Why would you say that in the first place?” I just shooked my head and took a sip of my ice tea.

“Well she was asking and I'm not going to lie to her.”

“Well you should of, now shes going to hate both of us, probably me even more.” I felt Andys confused eyes looking between me and John and totally missing what we were talking about. “Whatever, I don't care anymore. Your here so lets order some food.” I said as I looked at Andy and gave him a smile.

We made light conversation which meant John asking Andy random questions about him, Andy didn't see anything of it and answered them. They talked about guitars and0- John talk about some of the tours they have been on.

“So I heard your cover of Saving Grace, you did pretty good.” John said and Andy's eyes lit up.

“Oh I was just messing around, but thanks man that means a lot.”

“You know I wrote that song about Rae actually.” I flushed a little and tried to hide my smile but that wasn't easy.

“Oh really.” Andy said as he looked at me, making me blush even more. “What a great friend you have Rae.” I looked over at him and nodded my head.

“I sure do.”

“We just played a show and we actually played that song because I knew Rae was going to be in the crowd, I thought she would enjoy it but she walked away.” John said and I instantly got embarrassed.

“John!” I said sternly and gave him a face to stop.

“Why did you leave Rae?” Andy asked me as I felt his hand grab my hand from underneath the table.

“I-I just was over whelmed, the venue was super hot and I started to feel sick.” I basically lied right there and then. But I couldn't say it was because John was making my knees weak and my heart was pounding so fast. I couldn't say that every time Johns eyes caught my eyes it felt like the world had stopped and it was just me and him, just like the night me and John went to see Say Anything, and the way he made me feel that night made me feel special, like I had a chance with him.

I squeezed Andy hand and looked over at John and he knew why I left and he knew everything, I couldn't lie in front of John because he knew everything about me, he knew what I was thinking and feeling. He knew that no matter what, I was glad what had happened 2 years ago had happened.
