Always Something More

”And you're listening to KC 101.3! I'm your host JayJ.” The radio was on and the windows were down as I drove down to pick up Andy so we could go to the beach. I wasn't a big radio person, I switched stations every two seconds because nothing was ever one, but Andy broke my CD player and being in the silence wasn't an option for me. I couldn't help but thinking about Arizona. I thought coming back home, it would be easier and I wouldn't feel so homesick. I missed my friends, mostly Kennedy, I needed my best friend but after calling him and telling him I left he kind of blew up. He told me I hadn't changed and I shouldn't of even came to Arizona. I knew he didn't actually mean anything he meant but it still hurt. He told me I should call John but that was also not an option for me. I didn't want to hear his voice, I didn't want to picture his smile and those green eyes. I couldn't take it.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I pulled up to Andy's house, I texted him I was here and by the time I knew it he was running toward the car and getting in. He leaned over and gave me a small peck on my lips.

“You look gorgeous today.” I gave him a light smile and turned my car back on and drove off.

We fell into a comfortable silence and listened as music play over on the radio.

“And were back, that was Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO. In a few minutes we will be taking calls and whoever is the 15th caller will win a pair of concert tickets. Do you want to know to what concert? Well you'll have to wait after this break.”

I turned the volume to the radio down and turned to look over at Andy. “What beach do you want to go to? The town beach or what?” I asked him as he took his eyes off the road and looked at me.

“The town beach is fine, it doesn't matter.” I nodded my head and took a right turn and drove towards the town beach.

”And were back again, you're listening to KC 101.3 and before the break we talked about winning a pair of concert tickets. All you have to do is to be the 15th caller. But what concert are you trying to win for, you ask? That would be Phoenix Arizona quintet band The Maine.” I wasn't even listening to the radio any more but once I heard Arizona and The Maine my attention was on the radio host. It wasn't like I cared, it wasn't like I was going to try and win. I had no interest in going to that concert and seeing them. Or at least seeing him.

“It's a good thing we kind of know the band so we don't even have to pay for the tickets.” I heard Andy say. I looked at at him shook my head.

“One we'd still have to pay and two were not going at least I'm not.” I said like it was no big deal but I knew in reality it was a big thing and I knew Andy was thinking the same thing when he whip his head to look at me.

“What? Why?”

“I just don't want to.”

“You don't want to see Kennedy?”

“Maybe I’ll meet up with him but I'm not going to waste my money on a stupid concert.” I head Andy gasp at that, I looked at at him and gave him a confused face.

“What?” I said.

“Your just crazy that's all.”

We pulled up to the beach and stepped out to the warm sun. The sun wasn't as strong as Arizona, it was hot but at least you could stand it and not die from a heat stroke. The beach wasn't that crowded which was good because I didn't want to hear the stupid kids running around screaming and splashing as I swam around or laid in the sun.

We found a spot and made our own little area. We laid our towels next to each other, we took off our clothes and we were both left in our bathing suits. I blushed a little when I saw Andy half naked, I turned around so he wouldn't see my stares.

“Do you want to go into the water now?”

“Yeah just let me find a hair tie.” I put my hair high up in a messy bun and took off my flip flops and grabbed a hold of Andy's hand as he lead us to the water. We didn't step in right away, we knew it'd be cold and we were both scared. A small wave came and splashed our feet and we both let out a small yelp.

“Come on, lets just run right in.” I looked over at him and shook my head and gave him a scared look.

“It's not that cold, and you'll get use to it once you in.” I gave him another scared look but then nodded my head. I squeezed his hand and he started to walk and I followed. We went in slowly, I was walking on my tippy toe, already regretting going on. As we walked out farther I was shivering but was kind of getting use to the coolness. He stopped in his tracks and turned around and started to laugh.

“You look so cold.”

“Because I am.” I said in a small yell. Which made him laugh even harder. To make him shut up I splashed him with water which made him yell and started to do it back at me.

“Okay stop, I'm the one who is cold.” I said trying to get him to stop it.

“You started it though.” I let out a small laugh and walked over to him and wrapped my arms and legs around him. He put his hands around my back and started to spin us around in the water. I couldn't help but to laugh and yell at the same time. I slowed down and we both looked into each others eyes and smiled. I moved my head so it was laying on top of his shoulder. He swayed us back and forth, it felt so calming.

“Do you miss Arizona?” I lifted my head and looked at him. I then looked away and bit my lower lip, I shrugged my shoulders and looked back at him.

“I don't know, I guess I do but Michigan is where I should be.” He slowly nodded his head.

“You know it's okay to miss Arizona.”

“Yes Andy I know but I don't miss it.” I let go of him and swam around. I didn't want to talk about Arizona because of course I missed it. I missed everything about it.

“I'm going back up to the towels.” I said as I started to walk away from Andy, just leaving him there. But he came up and grabbed my wrist.

“Hey, I'm sorry we don't have to talk about Arizona.” He gave me that smile that always made everything better.

“Alright good, thank you. But I want to go tan.” He kept his smile on and nodded his head. We started to walk back up to our little area that we made. We both laid down on our towels and baked in the sun. We were both quiet for about 10 minutes when Andy spoke up.

“So would we really have to buy a ticket? The boys couldn't get us in?” I looked over at Andy and put my hands over my eyes covering from the sun.

“I don't know Andy. If you really want to go call Jared or Kennedy and see if they can get you in.”

He was quiet for a moment and I went back to my position and tanned.

“You really wouldn't want to go?”

I moved to my side so I could really see him, my eyes were still squinting from the sun. “Andy, please can we just drop this? No I don't want to go, Okay?” He nodded his head and stayed quiet. I laid back down and tried to get as much sun as I could. Back in Arizona, you don't really tan outside so I was still pretty white.

We left the beach an hour or so later. We were both claiming to be starving and needed some good food. I drove to the near by dinner and while we were driving my phone went off. I asked Andy to get it from my bag from the back seat.

“Guess who it is?” Andy said.

I looked over at him and furrowed my eye brows and saw the screen and saw his name flashing across the screen. I dropped my head a little bit and didn't want the phone anymore.

“Aren't you going to pick up?”

I looked over at him and shook my head and he pressed the ignore button for me.

“Just tell him to stop calling you. He looks like a stalker.”

I gave him a small glare and looked back at the road. “Lets just drop it.” I turned back on the radio and of course the DJ was talking about winning another pair of concert tickets for The Maine, I quickly changed the station.

It seemed like ever since I came home everything made me think of The Maine and Arizona and it made me miss Arizona even more. I couldn't help but to get trapped in my thoughts and think intensely about John or my home. I guess I made a mistake.
