The Call
Addy sat in her room on her bed. Her parents were out again. Her music was on full blast. Craving contact she snatched up her phone and dialled Sonny’s mobile. No answer. She sighed and slumped back on the bed. James would still be at football practice. She bit her lip and started drawing again.
“Argh…Sonny, please answer.” She called him again. The phone answered. Addy heard harsh breathing down the phone.
“Hello?” Sonny breathed. Addy heard his voice shaking.
“Sonny are you okay?” She asked carefully.
“Yeah I’m…fine.”
Addy bit her lip again. “You don’t sound…”
Sonny cut her off. “I said I’m fine!” He snapped.
“Sorry!” Addy yelped. “I was wondering if you would like to come round my parents aren’t home and…”
Sonny groaned. “Addy I don’t have time to deal with you right now.”
Addy sighed sadly. “It’s okay…sorry for bothering you.” She put the phone down.
She stared outside and saw the sky. “I’m always alone.” She heard a sound behind her and shivered. “That’s not gonna happen again Addy calm down.”
James finished practice and found Sonny sitting outside his home on the wall.
“Addy called,” Sonny told him. “She wanted me to go round did she ask you?”
“I was at practice.” James told his friend. “Gonna be a rough night tonight.” He looked at the sky. “You fall down the stairs again?”
Sonny scowled. James knew the truth but he didn’t say anything. “Addy always calls us round when her parents are out.”
“She doesn’t like being alone.” James told him.
Sonny looked at him curiously. “Why?” He finally asked.
James’ face fell. “Shit!” He put his kit inside the door and slammed it.
“What?” Sonny followed him as the two boys ran towards their friend’s house.
