Anything but Ordinary

What's going on

“Emmy! Emmy! Emmy!” that was all Ember-Rose heard as the little body on top of her kept bouncing on the same place with pure excitement. The young woman groaned as her purple eyes peeled open to see her little sister with a huge smile on her face.

“What is it?” she muttered

“Guess who’s here!” Ember was still half asleep so she just kept silent waiting for her baby sister to answer her question “Brian is here!” that woke the older sister up as she sat up with wide eyes, so it wasn’t a dream she thought.

The snow white haired girl thought that what she went through yesterday with a drunk Brian was all a dream. It wasn’t. The drunken Brian that walked from whatever bar he was in came all the way to her house wanting to tell her something. Ember-Rose won’t lie and say it didn’t scare her to see the guitarist in such a state.

Nibbling on her lip she spoke up “Wow that is something else”

The hazel eyes of her sister lit up “Is sure is! Let’s go downstairs, he’s waiting for us! Mommy made some pancakes too!” she grabbed her older sister’s hand pulling her in the direction of the entrance way of her room.

Ember didn’t want Kyree to hurt herself so she pushed herself off the bed having the tiny girl drag her down the hall and towards the kitchen that was downstairs. The whole way the white haired girl’s heart was thumping the entire way down as her vision was partially cloudy she had to blame her stupidity for forgetting her glasses up in her room.

“Brian look who’s awake!” Kyree beamed when they entered the kitchen from what the young girl can see the older man was sipping some coffee staying quiet. When the four year old climbed on her seat and tapped the older man he looked at her as she pointed at her older sister who was standing farther away than usual.

Ember-Rose sat in the farther seat away from Brian, who knew if he was still drunk or had a hangover that made him grumpy. She didn’t know so she kept her distance keeping an eye on him as he licked his lips his brown eyes looked at her “Mornin’ Ember”

Biting her lip she shyly answered back “Good morning”

Her eyes were now on the plate that her mother set down in front of her as she mumbled a ‘thank you’ before gazing at the syrup bottle that was near Brian. She contemplated on not taking the bottle and just eating it plain, Brian saw the hesitance the girl had that crossed her face so he pushed the bottle towards her.

He avoided her gaze as she thanked him; he nodded eating his pancakes and quietly talking to Kyree. Brian tried to be as friendly as possible but his head felt like someone beat him with a hammer on his skull and it was relentless.

Angel saw that he was in pain she walked away from the stove quickly grabbing the aspirin shaking two out of the bottle that she opened and walked towards the guitarist putting it beside his plate “Here” she smiled.

The black haired man looked at the two white pills before looking up at the hazel eyed woman “Thanks Blu” she nodded before walking back to the kitchen focusing on the pancakes that she had on the pan. Angel came back and set the plate in front of Kyree giving her the bacon she was waiting for as she grinned toothlessly.

“Thanks mama”

“You’re welcome sweetie” kissing the top of her head moving the frizzy hair out of her face “Eat your food and make sure you don’t get any grease in your hair, okay?” the little girl nodded as she grabbed the bacon with her tiny hands nibbling on it.

Brian just looked at the family around him and was thankful that Angel didn’t kick him out last night even though he made himself look like a complete ass. He just knew that she would be a great asset to the Avenged family with her motherly nature but what she said next bothered him.

“I called your girlfriend Michelle since she was calling your phone nonstop last night. I told her that she can pick you up from here later on once we have a little meeting” Brian nodded hating the little ‘meeting’ he was going to have with Angel.

Kyree didn’t care but threw her hands in the air wooing because her favorite man was going to be staying a little longer and the dragon lady won’t come by until later to take Brian away from them. “Now I can show you my superhero collection!”

Brian raised a brow as he put a piece of pancake into his mouth “Superhero collection? You don’t have Barbie’s or Brats or whatever they have nowadays?” when he saw the pure disgust the little girl had on her face he couldn’t help but laugh.

“Eww, no. Those are ugly; I like superheroes like Batman and the Human Torch!” leaving her bacon on the side of her plate as she continued to list the superhero action figures that she had at her disposal. Brian was impressed that a four year old knew her stuff when it came to superheroes.

“Come on I will show you right now!” turning in her seat to get off.

“Kyree Raine you better finish your bacon before you go anywhere” she pouted crossing her arms leaning back on her seat mumbling that she didn’t want to finish her food. Kyree was way too excited to show her toys to Brian but when he promised to play with her if she finished her food she grabbed all the remaining pieces and shoved them down her throat.

“Done!”

“Wash your hands first and don’t touch anything while you are walking to the bathroom. I don’t want greasy walls” Angel lectured the little girl who scurried to the bathroom.

Brian leaned back on his seat “That’s the first time I have seen a little girl so excited about action figures; superheroes nonetheless”

Angel chuckled as she sat down across from Brian with her own plate “Ember-Rose was the exact same way she hated dolls but loved those superheroes right Em?” her hazel eyes focused on the quiet woman that was sipping her orange juice.

The guitarist was shocked that she was still sitting at the table with no words said; how can she be so quiet? It didn’t make any sense to him but when he saw that she was about to stand up and leave he spoke up “Ember can I talk to you alone?”

Her dark purple eyes cautiously peered at her mother who nodded as she quietly agreed walking outside so they can have some privacy. As the cool air of the morning hi the both of them Ember-Rose sat on the long bench that was on the back porch looking out at the large yard with a pool in the back.

Brian sat next to her with some distance since he noticed that she was on edge with him he had to sigh, “Ember” he started his dark eyes focused on her “I’m sorry for scaring you last night. I didn’t mean to come in drunk off my ass; didn’t plan it going that way actually”

Brian did have some plan of talking to her but once he started to drown in his drinks he wasn’t as focused as he usually was. He just walked to her house that he found the work card that Angel handed to each member before she left the first day.

Ember looked at his wearingly as she wringed her hands together “its okay. It’s all in the past” with a forced smile; now that he has explained what has happened and how he found their house it made sense except she still didn’t know why he came over here.

“No it’s not….why I came over was because….” He sighed before he leaned on his hands “I want to get to know you a little bit better…something about you makes me want to be around you more often” Brian was cut off from his speech when Angel opened the door.

“Ember why don’t you go upstairs with your sister for a while. I need to talk to Brian before his girlfriend gets here” she emphasized on the girlfriend part; the mother wasn’t stupid at his body language when he was talking to her oldest daughter. Ember looked at Brian before getting up and walking into the house where Kyree was asking where Brian was.

Now that she got the guitarist all alone she sat down with her legs cross “Now tell me what’s going on in this pretty little head of yours.”

“Nothing, I was just apologizing to your daughter-”

“Cut the crap. I know what you were doing” Brian gave her a look wanting to know where she was going with her assumption “Sure you were apologizing to Em, but I see the way you look at her and Brian I don’t want you to drag my little girl into whatever you have in that brain of yours.”

“I wasn’t going to drag her into anything Blu; I just wanted to get to know her she doesn’t seem to be very social with anyone”

Angel glanced at the younger man “She has a reason to be like that….so why were you drunk Brian. Care to share?”

Brian stayed quiet as he looked out into the large green lush yard as the birds continued to chirp all around them and the cool air of the morning was growing warmer seeing the light of the sun moving from one place to another.

“Is this about Jimmy and Michelle pushing you to marry her?”

Brian snapped his head towards her in shock “How did you-?”

“Know? When I talked to Michelle she sure knows how to vent her feelings to a complete stranger” a chuckle left her lips but Brian couldn’t help but be pissed at his girlfriend for being so open to someone she never even met before.

“It’s something along those lines” he muttered.

“Well you can stay as long as you want as long as you don’t hit on my daughter.” Brian raised his brows.

“I thought Michelle was going to pick me up in a bit”

Angel shrugged as she opened the sliding glass door “I told her I would call her back once I was done having a meeting with you” she smiled “You can thank me later” he watched the older woman walk inside the house and he began to wonder how he can stumble onto one of the weirdest yet coolest family.

“I’m fucking screwed” he mumbled when all he kept thinking about was the woman upstairs that’s hair was white as snow.
