York and Mori

Chapter 15 - York

York thought he was having a normal uneventful day until he got home. Mori had left school early again as usual and gave him a text saying so. Since she wouldn’t be waiting for him after school, he stayed back a few more minutes to talk to Gretta and the others. Aaron had been talking nonstop about this band thing that was going on along with everyone else. York had been invited but couldn’t go since he didn’t have money and his parents threw a fit when they had heard it was over the weekend, since it was his birthday. They said that they had made plans that they couldn’t reschedule so he had to say no to his friends.

After a while, he did end up leaving, he was tired and had a crap load of homework to get done over the weekend once the mystery plans his parents had were over. But he highly doubted he’d have time over the weekend so he wanted to get as much done that night so that he would have a little done at least.

Once he pulled into the drive and walked into the house, he instantly knew something was wrong. Usually he would find his sister sitting on the couch with the cat and dog lying next to her while she watched tv. But this time the main room was empty and there was a eerie silence in the house. He walked to his room and happened to glance at Mori’s room and saw that her door was opened a crack and the light was on.

He went over to her door and peeked through to see his sister sitting on her bed with her cheeks red and her eyes puffy as if she had been crying. Then he saw that her eyebrows were knit tightly together and her eyes squinted almost shut as she typed furiously at her keyboard. He knew that look all too well as her angry face, which only appeared when she was really upset about something. Usually when she was angry, she would go silent and not show any emotion but when she had a face like she did then, something was defiantly up.

“Hey Mori,” York said cautiously as he opened the door. She looked up at him as he walked in and glared as he walked in.

“What do you want?” She snapped as she went back to whatever she was doing on her computer. Bear and the stupid cat were nowhere to be seen in her room, which was actually a smart thing when she was in a mood like this. Not that she would ever hurt them, just that after experience, Mori never wanted to be bothered during this time.

“I was just seeing if you were ok. You have that mad look to your face again.” He meant again since he had seen that face the whole drive to their new home when they had first moved.

“No I’m not ok,” She said shortly as a few tears escaped from her eyes. She sniffled and looked away, embarrassed since she was crying.

“Yeah I can see that, what’s going on?” York asked as he sat down on the bed. He grabbed a tissue from her nightstand and handed it to her. “C’mon, you know you can tell me anything.”

“I know, I just can’t believe I’m getting this worked up about it.” She wiped her eyes and slammed her computer shut as she looked up to him.

“Do you want me to hit anyone for you? You know I would.” He tried to make it sound light as a joke but she looked up and rolled her eyes at him.

“Actually, you might actually want to hit him again.”

“Wait hit him again?” He asked as she nodded not saying anything more. “The only person I know who I’ve hit and was a guy was,” He stopped as he looked up to Mori with big eyes. “What did that idiot Prince do to you? If he hurt you,”

“Oh calm down moron, he didn’t hurt me. Well maybe my heart but just settle down.” Mori replied as she rolled her eyes at him. “It’s nothing big, I honestly don’t know why I’m so upset.”

“Will you just tell me,”

“Fine, you know UD?” York nodded knowing that she didn’t want him to go on about that so he kept his mouth shut and let her go on. “Well Prince and him are the same person.”

“What?” York asked as Mori sighed and rubbed her eyes.

“UD was Prince in disguise.” She said shortly.

“Are you serious? So he was just playing us?” She nodded miserably as he sighed. “Mori I’m sorry,”

“It’s not your fault; I just don’t know why I’m reacting like this.”

“Because he broke your heart,” He replied bluntly as Mori gasped and looked up to him. “Oh don’t think I didn’t notice the way you looked at him. He seemed like a really nice guy, and honestly I approved.”

“Yeah well I thought he was a nice guy too,” She sighed. “But speaking of nice people, just to let you know, I approve of Gretta.” At that, York blushed really hard. “When is it ever going to be official between the two of you?”

“Mori,” He started but was cut off by the doorbell ringing. He gave his sister one last glance before getting up and walking out of her room. When he walked into the main room, he found the dog and cat curled up next to each other sleeping soundly. “So much for ferocious guard dog,” He muttered as he went to the door and pulled it open. “May I help,” He started but stopped when he saw the person standing there was Prince.

“York wait can I just,” Prince started as he pleadingly looked to him. He started to close the door when Prince stopped it and gave a look to York. “Please I just want to talk to Mori.”

“After you lied to her and broke her heart, why should I?”

“Because,” Prince started but stopped. York noticed he was no longer looking to him but to something behind him. York turned to see Mori standing there with a stricken look on his face. “Mori can I just talk to you, please? I want to tell you the truth, can I just explain myself?”

York turned himself away from Prince to look at his sister in a silent question of whether or not she wanted to tlak to him. She gave a small shrug and then sighed as she nodded. When he didn’t move to let Prince in, she gave another nod and a look saying that she would be ok. As if giving in to her, he walked away from the door and made his way to his room leaving the two of them to talk, but left his door open just so he would be able to hear a little of their conversation.
