Hidden in the Shadows

Chapter Eight

March 6th, 2011
Sunday
Jasmiina and Tuukka’s House, Boston, MA
6:00 A.M.

Raina woke up the next morning at 6:00 with another nightmare. Neither Sheena nor Jasmiina were awake yet and Raina knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep again so she went downstairs to get something to eat. The storm had completely passed and outside on the streets were broken tree branches, and a low level of water flooded the street. The sun was shining bright again in a cloudless sky.

When Jasmiina came down at 8:00 Raina had decided to make waffles. Jasmiina walked into the kitchen and Raina smiled and said

“Want some?”

“Sure thanks,” said Jasmiina. She sat down at the table. Raina got her a plate, fork, knife, and the syrup.

“Wow,” said Jasmiina, “You’re on top of things,” Raina laughed and said

“What do you mean?”

“You’re motherly instincts are kicking in,” said Jasmiina.

“How so?”

“You’re cooking waffles for Sheena and me, before when you slept over you and I would fight over who cooked breakfast.” Raina didn’t answer her but smiled to herself. She had grown much more mature since coming to the true conclusion that she was going to be a mother. “Before you know it you’re going to have to be feeding two people constantly six months from now.” Sheena walked in and said

“What smalls so good?”

“Raina’s practicing for what she’ll be doing for the rest of her life.” Sheena laughed and Raina said

“When you’re both pregnant I’ll make fun of you.” Jasmiina said

“Don’t look at, I’m not the next one to get pregnant, Sheena definitely will be.”

“That’s not true,” said Sheena.

“It is so,” said Jasmiina. “You’re the one engaged; I’m still just a girlfriend.”

“I like that Tuukka’s taking it slow with you,” said Sheena. “Johnny did that with me it as much better than rushing into it, we’re still taking it slow. We haven’t even set a wedding date.” Jasmiina pouted and said

“Whatever you say,” Raina made herself and Sheena waffles. After eating Raina went to clean up the mess she had made cooking.

“You really are going to make a good house wife,” said Sheena.

“I’m going to college to be a lawyer.”

“When are you classes over?”

“In May,”

“Are you and Milan going to Vancouver this summer?”

“Yup, he has his own apartment their actually but it’s only a one bedroom place so we’re going to start looking a houses.”

“What about your apartment here?”

“We’re going to keep it because it has enough rooms for us and the two twins.”

“That’s good, have you looked at anything yet?”

“Not much, I probably should, he wants a house near his parents place.”

“Have you been to Vancouver?”

“Ya when he went back to Vancouver for that Vancouver Giants honor night.”

“His junior team?”

“Milan had played in the Vancouver Giants. He had shoed her videos before of him playing back then. It made her wish she had known him when he was younger.

The girls were trying to decide on what they should do for the day.

“Shopping?” said Sheena.

“So,” said Jasmiina, “I’ve taken to many trips to Fanueil Hall and Newbury St. lately. I wanna do something different,” Raina thought about the game in Montreal that night and said

“Oh my god we should totally go to Montreal tonight.”

What?” said Sheena.

“We should take a road trip to Montreal and surprise the boys.”

“How are we going to surprise them? We won’t be able to get seats near the bench this close to the game for them to see us?” said Jasmiina.

“They won’t know we’ll be at the game, I know the hotel they’re staying at. We can meet them in the lobby when they get back.” said Raina.

“Sounds fun,” said Sheena “If you really wanna go we can. I just need to go get my passport at home.” Raina smiled and said

“Alright, I’ll get the tickets online when I go home.” Sheena and Raina went back to their homes and got their things together. Raina dressed in her Bruin’s jersey even though she knew how harassed she was going to get. She quietly went online and bought the best seats she could find. The second to last row down below the balcony had three seats available and those were the ones Raina bought. She took her passport, a bag of clothes, her toothbrush and then she called Jasmiina.

“I’m ready; whose car are we taking?”

“Mine, I’m driving too. I’ll pick you up out front of your apartment building in fifteen minutes; I’m going to get Sheena.” Raina locked up the apartment and went down out front. Jasmiina pulled up in her silver Lexus five minutes later. Raina put her things in the back and sat in the front passenger seat with Jasmiina. Sheena had chosen the back seat so she could stretch her legs and lay down. Jasmiina had her GPS turned on. Raina said

“When we get there we can just go right to the Bell Centre.” They went over the bridge and Raina watch the city of Boston grow further and further away. She hoped Milan would never be traded or switch teams; she couldn’t bare the thought of leaving this city for good.

The ride up was fun. The girls blasted the radio and sang along. When Milan called her Raina turned down the radio and told the girls to be quiet.

“Hello?” she answered.

“Hey babe,” he said breathing heavily.

“What are you doing?” she said. She heard him let out a low moan and then he said

“Jacking off to those pictures you sent me a few weeks ago,” Not in the mood to play along she said

“I’ll let you finish.”

“No babe talk to me.” He said

“What do you wanna talk about?” she said teasingly.

“Talk dirty to me.” He moaned.

“I’m busy,” she said. Milan obviously wasn’t listening

“What are you wearing babe,” Raina wasn’t going to give into his sexual fantasy and said

“A jersey and jeans.”

“Tell me how you’d get on top of me and-” Not wanting to hear the rest Raina hung up.

“What’d he want?” said Jasmiina.

“Nothing,” said Raina. Milan called back a minute later.

“Are you finished and ready to talk to me?” said Raina.

“Ya,” he said, “I’m finished.” Raina rolled her eyes and said

“Where are you right now?”

“The hotel room,” Suddenly the GPS went off and said “Now entering Vermont.”

“Where are you? Was that a GPS a just heard? You’re in Vermont?”

“No, it was….” Raina quickly thought of an excuse and said

“It was the TV,”

“Raina what are you up to?” he said in a suspicious voice.

“Nothing, nothing at all.” She said “I’m uhh at Sheena’s house, here talk to her.” Raina passed Sheena the phone and Sheena said

“Hey Milan what’s up?” there was a pause, “No we’re not in the car we’re watching a movie. She’s sleeping over here tonight cause she doesn’t want to be alone.” After a minute Sheena handed Raina back the phone.

“Convinced?” said Raina.

“Ya,” he said “Alright I have to get ready to go to practice.”

“When I get a hold of your phone I’m deleting those pictures,”

“No, I just miss you,”

“I’m pretty sure your hand doesn’t feel the same as I do.”

“No not at all,” said Milan laughing. Raina smiled and said

“Alright have fun at practice, and go out and try your hardest tonight I’ll be watching.” She said. When they hung up she said

“He’s not suspicious anymore,”

“Good,” said Jasmiina. “Let’s keep it a secret.” The rest of the ride was the same as the first half, besides the stop they made at Papa Ginos to get a pizza. They put the box on the center console of the car and shared. They finally reached the U.S/Canada border and had to present their passports and birth certificates. After that it wasn’t long before they reached Montreal. The city appeared on the horizon and Raina felt the excitement rise in her chest. She loved getting in Canadian fans faces in their own arena. She’s been to a Bruins vs. Canadians game at the Bell Centre three times in her life and all of them she’d worn a Bruins jersey. She loved the attention she got and wasn’t afraid to yell back. For the time being Anna's death wasn't on anybody's mind but when they got back home Raina would have to face reality.
