What If I Can't Forget You?

And did you call me last night just 'cause you couldn't get laid?

That night as I was sitting alone in the livingroom, I decided to go to Vic's place. As I rang the doorbell, I saw Olivia. She was inside, in the kitchen with Vic. They were laughing. I turned around and was about to walk away, when the door opened. I turned around to see surprised Mike in the doorway.
”Sophie?”
”I, uh, I was just going home...” I mumbled and turned around. I began to walk away when Mike caught my arm and spun me around.
”Why are you here?” He asked.
”I don't even know,” I muttered and shook my head. ”But hey, have fun with Olivia.”
”What the fuck are you talking about?” He asked.
”Well, you obviously are having fun,” I said and pointed at the window. Mike turned to look at Vic and Olivia in the kitchen.
”Look, you need to fix your damn head. Because the problem we have is in your little head,” Mike said, ”You think something will happen, even though I want nothing to do with her. She's my friend, for fucks sake, you're my girlfriend!” Mike was getting angry and frustrated. I just stared at the ground without saying anything. I realized that he was right and I was wrong.
”I... I'm sorry,” I muttered and swallowed. I tried to fight the tears, but I couldn't help but let out a cry. I wiped away the tears from my cheeks and sniffled.
”Babe...” Mike sighed. I looked up at him.
”I'm going home,” I mumbled. I felt Mike's hand on my cheek as he wiped away the tears.
”Do you want me to come with you?” Mike asked quietly.
”No, you can stay.” My throat felt dry as I tried to speak. I felt him wrap his arms tightly around me and soon I was sobbing against his chest. I didn't want to lose him, but I couldn't help but get worried. I was a jealous girlfriend and it was hard to get over it. Mike pulled away just to kiss me. He leaned his forehead against mine, breathing heavily.
”You okay?” He mumbled against my lips. I nodded and reached up to kiss him again.
”I'm going home now,” I whispered.
”I'll call you later.”

Mike did call me and we talked for about an hour. After that I fell asleep, but I didn't sleep well. I woke up every once in a while just to realize that Mike wasn't there. Then I tried to fall back asleep, but I couldn't until after a few hours of tossing around the bed. In the morning as I looked in the mirror, I didn't like what I saw. I had bags under my eyes, my hair was a mess and I looked really, really tired. I took a shower and then went downstairs. I ate breakfast, even though I wasn't really hungry. After that I decided to call my big brother Benjamin. Even though I wasn't in a close relationship with anyone in the family, I knew I could always call him. I hadn't talked to him in over a year and I had to admit that I missed him.
”Uh, hey?”
”Ben? It's Sophie,” I said into the phone. It was quiet for a while, until I heard a sigh.
”Shit, didn't even recognize the voice. How are you? Everything okay?” He asked.
”I'm just fine. What about you?” I asked. I couldn't help but smile as I heard him tell about his life and his wife, who was apparently pregnant.
”I'm really happy for you,” I told him.
”Yeah, life's just great. How are you and Sam?” I swallowed as I thought about Sam.
”I, uh, we... We broke up,” I said.
”Oh? Aren't you in a relationship now, then?”
”I am, actually.”
”With...?”
”Mike Fuentes,” I said.
”Really? Seriously? Wow, that's great. I knew you two were really meant to be,” Ben said.
”Yeah... We're having a fight actually,” I mumbled. I told him about Olivia and everything that had happened. I really needed someone to talk to, and he was ready to listen.
”Wow... Well, I don't really know what to say. But I'm sure you two will figure it out,” Ben said. We talked for a while before he told me he needed to go to work. He promised to come visit us soon.

That night as I was just about to go to sleep, Mike came home. I was in the kitchen, taking a bottle of water from the fridge as I heard him walk in. Soon he was standing in the doorway, looking at me.
”You came back,” I said and opened the bottle. I drank some water as I sat down on the counter. He walked to me, dropping the bag to the floor and placing his hands on my thighs.
”I started to miss you,” Mike said and smiled softly. I flashed a smile too.
”Good,” I murmured before leaning in to kiss him softly.
”Are you okay now?” He asked as he pulled away, biting his lower lip.
”I, er, well... Yeah,” I said after a while.
”I just... I was a little worried,” Mike told me, ”It's all in your head. You create something that has never happened and never will, and then you start thinking it's reality.” I sighed and buried my face in my hands, breathing in slowly. Mike pulled me against his chest, rubbing my back soothingly.
”But I love you Mikey, so much,” I mumbled against his shoulder.
”I love you too, Sophie, so very much,” He told me and kissed my neck. I yawned and closed my eyes.
”You tired?” He asked as he pulled away.
”Yep,” I mumbled.
”Let's go to sleep,” He said and picked me up. He carried me all the way to the bedroom and placed me down on the bed.
”Haven't you slept at all? You look horrible,” Mike said as he pulled off his shirt.
”Aww thanks babe, you're so sweet,” I mumbled sarcastically.
”I'm not used to seeing you like this,” He said as he laid down next to me on the bed. ”You always look cheery and happy.”
”Mmhm.”
”Come here,” He mumbled and pulled me closer to him, kissing my head. And for the first time in a few days, I slept really well.
