“Ms. Lite, this is all you will need to get started, your room key is in the welcome package we gave you and finally welcome to Arine Academy.” I nodded to the sleek woman sitting in front of me. Her hair was pulled back into a tight bun, with not a single strand astray. She was wearing all black, except for the small scarf around her thin neck which was green, yellow, and purple, the colors that represented the school. This was head mistress Waters.

Coming from the orphanage I didn't have much, I could fit everything I owned into a duffel bag and a rolling suit case. I traveled to the girls side of the academy. I was in Perry Hall on the fourth floor.

My room, no, my apartment looked much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. There were three bedrooms, one bathroom, a lounge, and a small kitchen like area. Two of the three bedrooms had already been taken, so I made my way to the last bedroom at the very end of the hallway.

The room was plain white; it had a single twin bed, a work desk, a night stand, and a closet. There weren’t any sheets or anything on the bed, so I went to look for some. I found some in the closet, they were the generic plain white but they would do, the closet also had a small dresser inside of it. I made the bed then unpacked the few things I had.

When I was finished I headed back out to the lounge area. Right as I was entering the lounge the door opened and two people walked in arguing.

“You know Erin that was a really fucked up thing you did.”

“Well don’t blame me Bianca; maybe they really just didn’t like you.”

“No, I’m sure it was just you telling them that I sleep with dolls surrounding me, that I pick my nose and that I only take a shower every few weeks. You know how childish that is?”

“No, I thought it was very funny.”

I watched as they argued, just observing the two girls. They both seemed to be around my age, but that's where similarities stopped. These two girls were polar opposites. The one named Erin seemed to be the typical blond haired, blue eyed mean girl. She was pretty no doubt, but her hair wasn't blond naturally and her dark roots were starting to show, but it honestly made her look even better. The other girl though, Bianca, was a different kind of pretty, her brown skin was flawless, she had longer black hair and big brown eyes, all of which shouted 'I'm gonna be your friend whether you like it or not'.

The arguing sounded like it was coming to an end and finally Bianca gave a big sigh and turned away from Erin. That’s when she noticed me.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry you had to see us arguing. You must be our new roommate.” I nodded at her. Erin just huffed and stomped her way to what I’m assuming was her room.

“Hi! I’m Bianca, and the bitch who just walked off is Erin.” I nodded again.

“What’s your name?” I held up my hand then hurried off to my room and grabbed my notebook and pen. I returned to Bianca, I wrote my name down and showed it to her.

“I like your name, but um, why did you write it down?” I signed for the word mute and when her eyes just got wide and confused I wrote it down in my notebook.

“Oh okay, another question sorry, why are you mute?” I gave a small sigh and wrote down long story. She nodded her head.

“Can I see what your schedule and stuff are like?” I nodded and went back to my room to grab the welcome package the head mistress had given me. I decided to grab the whole thing so I could look through it while Erin looked at my schedule

“Well we have some classes together!” She sounded excited but I just shrugged my shoulders.

“Would you like a tour of the campus?” I didn't really but it seemed like Bianca was trying her hardest to leave the dorm so I agreed to go.

She showed me the whole academy. And I must say this place was a lot bigger than I was expecting. I had never really seen a place so big, but I had never really been anywhere either. After she showed me around the campus we grabbed a bite to eat at the on-campus diner and slowly made our way back to the dorm.

“Hey can I see your phone?” I gave her a funny look but handed it to her nonetheless.

“Wow you only have two contacts in here.” I nodded my head slowly. She gave a small giggle and proceeded to type something out.

“Well now you’ll have four.” I raised my eyebrow at her.

“Well, me and I’m sorry but I’m giving you Erin’s number.” I shrugged it’s not like I was ever going to use it.

After she put the numbers in she gave me my phone back. I looked at the time and saw that it was 8:30. Bianca told me earlier that the curfew here was at 10:00. I touched Bianca’s shoulder then wrote do you have any movies, down on my notebook and showed it to her. She smiled and nodded.

She opened the cabinet that was under the T.V in the lounge area. She pulled out two movies. The first one was The Lion King, the second was Final Destination. I smiled and pointed to the second one and she smiled.

“I can tell we are going to get along great!” I gave a small smile. I was seriously doubting her. I didn’t get along with many people.

We were on the couch, with a bowl of popcorn in between us watching the movie, when the door busted open and two guys walked in. Bianca sighed and threw popcorn at them. They laughed and sat on the floor in front of us.

I suddenly felt very uncomfortable. So I went back to my room, I shut the door and looked at the time. It was 10:30; classes didn’t start until next week, I had no reason to go to bed early. But I still did. I didn’t want to go back out there.

I changed into the one nightgown I had, which was a pair of red plaid pajama pants and a black tank top. I climbed under the sheets and slowly fell into my nightmares.

Bianca’s P.O.V

“What’s up with her?” Zachy asked as Kirsten left the room.

“I don’t know, maybe you two scared her off.” I said throwing popcorn at them.

“Oh, we aren’t that scary.” Zachy said grabbing a handful of popcorn and throwing it at me.

“Hey, be careful if you get popcorn in this couch Erin is gonna be on your ass.”

“Oh, let the bitch do whatever she wants.” I laughed and looked over at Leo he had been quiet the whole time, which is a little strange.

“What’s the matter Leo?”

“Nothing really just tired tonight. Anyways who was she?”

“She’s our new roommate, her name is Kirsten, she’s also a mute, but don’t tell Erin that, you know how she gets.” They both nodded and turned their attention back to the movie.

Those guys came over again I found out their names. One was Zachy and his name fitted his appearance, his hair was in black spikes and his eyes were a bright blue, he looked like a guy that had never been sad a day in his life and his smile was big and infectious. While the other guy, Leo, was tall, had dark hair that went a little past his ears, his brown eyes were always watching everything, he wasn't as talkative as Zachy, but he wasn't quiet either. I also found out that I had classes with the both of them, and two more contacts were added to my phone.

Tomorrow was our first day of classes. And everybody looked pained. I, on the other hand was kind of interested in the thought of going to actual classes. It had been a while since I had actually gone to a real school, and the last school I had been to was my old middle school. While I was very nervous, I couldn't help but admit that there was some other emotion rolling around in me that actually wanted to go to class and learn something.

It was still nice and warm out so they decided to go swimming. I denied and stayed in the dorm. I was sitting on the couch going through my pictures and drawings when the door opened and Erin and some guy walked in. The guy was good looking he had a full head of hair that looked like it was usually kept very short and neat, his eyes were small and hazel like, his nose straight and when he smiled at me I saw dimples.

I hadn’t seen Erin that much since that first day and every time I did see her she just ignored me. This time was no different. She ignored me and started for her room. The boy on the other hand just stood there, towered over me on the couch and stared at me. I didn't pay him much attention, I gave a small wave of the hand and kept my attention on what I was doing.

I felt his eyes on me as I went along minding my own business. I looked up just as he was opening his mouth to say something but he was interrupted by Erin's yelling.

“Chris come on. God, I’m waiting!” He sighed and went back to Erins' room.

A while later I was going to start a new drawing, but I didn’t have a drawing pencil on me. I went back to my room to grab one. On my way back I heard moaning and grunts coming from Erins' room and there were only a few guesses that came to mind on what they could be doing. I sighed and kept walking back to my spot.

I settled down and began drawing. I got lost in the picture that was coming along. As my pencil swirled around, the curves and lines coming off the paper. I shaded a petal, and created a new one. The process went on and on, and soon a rose had been created.

I was so distracted that I didn’t hear Erins' door open nor the bathroom door. I actually didn’t notice anything until someone was yelling.

I looked up to see that guy named Chris in his boxers at the fridge and Bianca in a towel dripping wet yelling for Erin. I shook my head; I didn’t want to hear another one of their fights, so I grabbed my stuff and headed back for my room. I closed the door and put my I-pods earphones into my ears and began drawing again.

Again I was too lost in my drawings, because I didn’t hear my own bedroom door open and close. I didn’t notice anything until I felt a poke at my side. I jumped up and looked to my side to see that Chris guy again. This time he was fully clothed and he had a big smile on his face, those dimples coming out proud.

I just stared at him and I could tell that he was starting to get uncomfortable with my hard eyes piercing through him.

“What are you drawing?” He asked trying to break the silence. I held my drawing up to show him.

“Wow that’s pretty good.” I just nodded.

“So I’m Chris.” He said and held out his hand. I took it and shook it. Then looked back down to my drawing.

“Well now would be a great time to tell me your name.” I sighed and wrote my name down in my notebook and showed it to him.

“Nice name but can you tell me why you just didn’t say it.” I wrote down mute and showed him. He nodded and started speaking again.

“I come in here to get away from their arguing. Usually it’s just me in here until they are done, but now I’ll have you to talk to.” I looked at him skeptically. This was my bedroom and whatever he was used to would no longer work for him, plus I was mute I couldn't actually talk to him.

I gave the last finishing touches to my drawing and signed it. I put the drawing in my binder with all my other creations. This binder was probably one of the most precious things I owned.

“Can I see what else you have drawn?” I shook my head a lot of the things in my binder were personal and I would rather not share them with this complete stranger.

He kind of sat there awkwardly after my refusal. I just kept my head in my binder making sure everything was in order and nothing was missing. I didn't notice him grab my schedule from the nightstand and look it over.

“We have a couple classes together.” I looked up and finally noticed the crinkled paper in his hands. I only nodded to his observation.

“Oh, can I see your phone?” I looked at him for a moment, this guy just wants to touch everything. I just sighed and pointed over to the nightstand. He looked over and grabbed the small electronic device

“You only have six contacts.” I nodded.

“Well I’m going to be your seventh.” I shrugged. Go for it dude.

He gave me my phone back when he was done. He was about to say something but again was interrupted by my door opening. It was Erin. She gave me a hard glare and I just stared blankly back at her

“C’mon Chris let’s go.” Her voice was sharp and he got off my bed immediately. He said goodbye and was out the door the next minute.

When I heard the front door open and close I left my room and went to get something out of the fridge. Bianca was out there sitting on the couch just staring at the T.V., it wasn’t on either. I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge then made my way to sit beside her. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight. I jumped a little at the sudden contact of skin, I didn't liked to be touched but at that moment I didn't think it would be a good idea to tear my hand from hers.

“Why don’t you talk Kirsten?” I sighed, but didn’t answer.

“Where are you from?” No answer.

“Do you have any siblings?” I shook my head no.

“I do. I have two brothers. They’re both younger than me.” I nodded.

“What’s your family like?” I shrugged my shoulders.

“Mine is always happy even in the worst of times.” I couldn't help but let a small smile slide on my face as vague memories of happier times crossed my mind.

“Will you ever talk?” That question caught me off guard. I didn't know if I would ever want to talk again, it was just too much for me.

“You know I hate silence, but every once in a while it’s the only thing I need.” I looked away from her. She sighed and got up from the couch and pulled me up with her. She proceeded to hug me. I was like a board, so stiff and straight, It had been so long since I had had a hug, I didn't know what to do so I awkwardly put my arms around her and patted her back.

“Thanks for the silence.” She whispered in my ear then she let go of me and went to her room. I just stood there. Then I turned around headed towards my room but as I passed Bianca's room I couldn't help but smile.
