‹ Prequel: Left In The Dark

Into The Light

Chapter 12

I got off the freezing boat.

The water that had splashed up had frozen my hair almost solid.

My shoulders were nipped by the cold air, but it was all worth it.

Soon, I’d have all the warmth needed wrapped in Aaron’s arms.

I saw a large group of solders wrapped in chains, marching toward me.

Some were wearing nothing but tattered tank and shorts.

Something caught my attention as it fell to the floor.

Snow seemed to cover him or her almost immediately. I took note it was a he, as he wobbled back to his feet.

It wasn’t just any he.

It was Aaron.

My stomach began doing flips as it has done many times before I noticed something. He looked abused.

He looked like one of the puppies in the animal commercials. My Aaron looked horrible.

My heart sunk and I wanted to puke right then and there. I would have if I hadn’t been frozen looking at him.

“Aaron.” I whispered as he climbed onto the boat. Did he see me? Did he even remember me?

Did he still love me?

Questions swarmed my head as he got away.

Almost.

I shot out my vines not thinking, knocking out the first guy there.

My blood shot frozen.

What did I just do?
