Untangle Me

The Bus

We were all waiting with our bags in the parking lot of the apartments, where the bus was coming to pick us up. I had spent the night with Pat and got to say good-bye to his parents. I didn’t have to say bye to Tim, since he was coming with us, being the band’s manager and all. Some other members of the bands crew, who I hadn’t met yet, were in the parking lot too. They all decided to congregate at one stop to make it easier on the bus driver. Lauren was here as well, to see us off. She was over talking to Mary so I walked over.
“So, you never did tell me, Lauren. What’s the deal with you and Garrett?” I asked her,
“We’re not dating. We thought it’d be silly to start dating only days before he leaves. So when you guys come back, we’ll see what happens.” She told me. I nodded. I thought that was a good decision.
“Well I’m sure he’ll miss you. But not as much as I am going to.” I hugged her.
“Hey! I’ll miss her more!” Mary exclaimed, joining our hug. Lauren laughed.
“I’ll miss you guys too. But we’ll still talk. We went eight years without losing touch, I’m sure we can handle three months.” She said.
“You’re right.” I nodded. We started talking about random things, but I excused myself and went over to Pat, who was sitting alone on the ground, drumming absentmindedly on the concrete. I plopped down next to him.
“Hey buddy. Are you excited?” I asked.
“Yeah. I have a feeling this is gonna be the best tour yet.” He grinned.
“I was thinking the same thing.” I grinned back at him. There was a loud honk, causing everyone to stop talking to look in the direction of the noise. I saw a large bus slinking towards us. The group of guys cheered and high-fived, causing me to laugh at sheer testosterone.
“Well, I guess this is it.” Pat grinned, standing up and then extending his hand to help me up. I couldn’t help but be filled with excitement. Once the bus pulled up in front of us, I saw that the guys’ giant faces were plastered on the side of the bus. I laughed to myself, thinking about how cliché that was. Everyone put their big suitcases under the bus, leaving only the smaller bags, filled with everyday items, to be brought on the bus. After my bag was stowed away, I found Lauren again, giving her one last hug and then catching back up with Pat to get on the bus with him.
Once I got on, I immediately explored the bus. Once entering the bus, I was surrounded by couches on both sides, with a TV on the wall. Then, there was a ‘kitchen’, with a small refrigerator, cabinets and counter space. Then came rows of bunks on each side, two bunks high, and three bunks long. After the 12 bunks came three doors, one on each side and then one straight ahead. The doors on the sides led to a bathroom and a closet and the one leading straight opened up into a lounge, with couches in the shape of a U and another TV.
“I like it.” I smiled at Pat.
“Good. Now lets call bunks.” He said, pulling me to the bunk area.
“I want the front ones, away from the bathroom.” I told him, making a face. He laughed and pulled me to the front. I chose a side and sat on the bottom bunk. He climbed onto the bunk on top of me, and then hung his head over the side and grinned at me, his hair swinging.
“Hey bunk buddy.” He said.
“Oh hey.” I giggled. I say Mary enter the bus with Kenny and called her over. “Hey, take the bunk across fro me.” I told her pointing. She smiled and sat down on it.
“Okay.” She agreed. Kenny climbed in the one on top of her.
“This will do. I like being on top of you anyway.” He smirked at Mary. She gasped and swatted at him playfully.
“I didn’t need to know that.” I laughed, but made a grossed out face. John came over to us.
“Ah, I see you already picked bunks? Well I guess I know where I’m sleeping.” He smirked at me and went and sat on the bunk directly behind mine. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
“You’re relentless, John.” I told him.
“You love it.” He winked at me and I couldn’t help but laugh at his cockiness.
