If It Means a Lot to You

Serenading

Rose sat at the piano in the room. Chairs were scattered around the room, some folded, others still propped out. I watched Rose play from my spot near the door. I slipped in, trying to be silent as she continued singing.

I’m calling for a savior to show me where to start
And all who still remain are whispering in the dark
And we just wait for a sign

She continued playing, singing a song I was unfamiliar with.

“I know you’re there, Jer,” Rose said when she finished singing. She glanced over her shoulder at me, her fingers still pressing keys. I smiled sheepishly as I walked closer. She scooted over and patted the spot next to her. She tossed me a glance. “Let’s see if you recognize this one.” She shifted easily into a new song. I immediately recognized it.

I’m missing you so much, I’ll see you die tonight
Just so I can get to you before the sun will rise
I know these times are hard and I feel this too
None of that ever seems to matter when I’m holding you

And I’m wasting away, away from you

What have I gotten into this time around
I know that I had sworn I’d never trust anyone again but I didn’t have to

You had me at hello

Rose’s hands glided along the keys as she tossed me another smile.

“Know it?” she asked with a knowing smirk.

“Of course. I wrote it,” I replied with a smile. She looked away as she started singing again.

I’ve never seen a smile that can light the room like yours
It’s simply radiant, I feel more everyday that goes by
I watch the clock to make my timing just right

Would it be okay?
Would it be okay if I took your breath away?

And I’m wasting away, away from you

What have I gotten into this time around
I know that I had sworn I’d never trust anyone again but I didn’t have to

You had me at hello

I watched her close her eyes as she continued playing. She swayed slightly, a small smile on her face. I knew she was losing herself in the music; I had done it multiple times myself.

You gave me butterflies at the mailbox (you had me at hello)

What have I gotten into this time around
I know that I had sworn I’d never trust anyone again but I didn’t have to leave
You had me at hello
You had me at hello
You had me at hello

“Why didn’t you tell me you could play the piano?” I asked. “You can sing, you can play guitar and piano, any more hidden talents?”

“I can make a mean mime if I wanted to shut up?” Rose joked. She started transitioning from You Had Me At Hello to a more slower tune.

“What’s this?” She shrugged.

“Just something random I’m playing. Letting the keys speak for me.” She paused. “I only know how to play because my mother made me learn. The only good thing she ever did for me.”

Rose’s POV:
We sat there for a few moments in silence, the music from the piano being the only thing that broke the peaceful and comfortable silence.

“Here. Let me show you something,” Jeremy said, standing up. His hands easily covered mine. “More like two different things. The first one isn’t exactly the most romantic song but.” He guided my fingers along the keys, playing the tune for me. I furrowed my eyebrows, unsure of what he was having me play. His lips lightly brushed my ear as he started to sing.

Words can’t express
The impact you’ve made on me
In my entire life
And all I can say is that I love you
For everything it serves out

This is for you
You’re the one worth waiting for
You’re all I ever need in this life

“Well A Second Glance certainly does have a cheerful ending,” I joked. He chuckled.

“You’ll like this one better,” he promised. I immediately recognized the song when he started to play.

A lonely road, crossed another cold state line
Miles away from those I love
Purpose hard to find
While I recall all the words you spoke to me
Can’t help but wish that I was there
Back where I’d love to be, oh yeah

Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
To hold her when I’m not around
When I’m much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
I left her when I found her
And now I wish I’d stayed
‘Cause I’m lonely and I’m tired
I’m missing you again, oh no
Once again

I tore my hands from under Jeremy’s and turned around in the bench. My lips met his in a deep, passionate kiss.

“I love you,” I whispered when I pulled away. He smiled softly.

“I love you too,” he said before kissing me again.
