My Interesting Experience at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry

The Sorting

I looked around nervously as Professor Dumbledoor began the evening. I looked from face to face, each expressing a new form of interest in what Dumbledoor was saying. Then I saw him. He had pale blonde hair, the kind I could never pull off, and these blue grey orbs where his eyes should have been. He was attractive, even with the bored expression flooding every one of his facial features.

I must have been watching him for too long because before I knew it his eyes were on mine. The look he ave me sent shivers down my spine. I couldn't help but turn away. When I looked back to Dumbledoor, his place had been taken by a woman. She said her name was Professor McGonagall.

Before I knew it, the table I was at had been invited to stand in a line at the front of the Great Hall. We were to wait until our name was called then come up to be sorted. The first kid had been called up. He approached the stool behind Professor McGonagall and popped a squat. McGonagall put some sort of hat on the kid's head.

"Hmmm, mighty fine imagination you have. A bit of a trouble maker I see! But a pureblood.. Better be Slytherin!" The hat yelled.

"That hat can talk?" I asked a dark haired girl with green eyes in line infront of me.

"Of course, it's the Sorting Hat," She responded.

Soon enough every name had been called except for mine.

"Dawn Rain," McGonagall spoke.

I slowly made my way to the stool. I felt stares from everyone in the Great Hall. As I sat, I took a glance toward the fair haired boy with the bored expression. His expression had turned more to curiosity when Professor McGonagall placed the Sorting Hat on my head.

"You're very intellegent I see. Oh and a pureblood," The blonde boy took perticular interest now, "I see, you're a Rain. I should put you in Ravenclaw then, but wait, there's something else here. A sense of duty. Bravery. Innocence," I now had a look of curiosity from everyone, even Dumbledoor, "But where should I put you?"

I felt my whole body tense up as the room grew increasingly silent with each second the hat had paused. I felt nervous. I felt sick.

Then the Sorting Hat shouted a decision, "It has to be Gryffindor!"

A table that had to be Gryffindor's erupted with applause. I made my way over to the table to sit down in any seat I could find. I ended up across from a girl with thick, curly, light brown hair.

"Hello, I'm Hermione Granger," She extended her hand.

"Dawn Rain," I met her handshake.

"Where are your robes?" She asked.

I looked down at my jeans and tank top then looked around at all the black cloak like things covering a tie and a sweater vest.

"I guess I'm not really prepared for this," I laughed.

At that moment a red headed boy sat down next to me and started to shovel food into his mouth.

"Really Ron?" Hermione spat, "You come in after a whole summer, late, and can't even say hello?"

The red headed boy blushed, "Hello Hermione," before he placed enough food to feed a family on his plate.

I turned to him, "Hi, I'm Dawn."

He swallowed his food quickly, "I'm Ron, Ron Weasley. Are you new here?"

"Of course she is, Ron," A dark haired boy appeared next to Hermione. He had glasses and piercing blue eyes, "It's nice to meet you, Dawn, I'm Harry Potter."

"Hello, Harry," I smiled.

I felt eyes on me from behind. I turned and looked to see the pale blonde boy glaring.

"I'll be right back," I said to the Gryffindors.

They looked at me cautiously as I got up and turned to walk toward the blonde boy. I walked over, earning some stares from more than just the thee Gryffindors I had left.

"Why do you find me so interesting?" I asked the boy.

"What do you mean?" He retorted.

"I mean, you've been staring at me since you caught me looking around the room," I smirked, "I figured you must have been intrigued."

"I'm very intrigued," he began, "as to why a beautiful girl like you ended up in Gryffindor."

I blushed a little. I felt my heart rate getting away from me as the boy spoke again.

"Malfoy, Draco Malfoy," He smirked.

"Dawn," I returned.

"Well, Dawn," his eyes were locked on mine, "we may just have to get to know each other."

I felt somebody behind me and turned to see Hermione.

"Come on, Dawn, I'll show you to your room."

Malfoy just glared at her as she grabbed my arm to pull me away.

"It was nice meeting you, Draco!" I said before turning to leave.

As Hermione walked me into the Gryffindor common room, I couldn't help but feel awkward.

"Do you and Draco have, like, a thing or something?" I asked.

"Heavens no! He is the most selfish, rude, insensitive, little brat I've ever had the misfortune of meeting!" She responded.

"Care to explain?"

"You'll see soon enough, Dawn."

And with that I was shown to my room. I heard Whiskers purring as I walked in and couldn't help but just curl up with her and fall asleep.
