My Oh So Ordinary Life

Carlisle, Paul, and The Box

“It’s good to see you again” Carlisle said quietly, leading me into his home. I heard the sound of a piano as he led me to what I believed as his office. He opened the door, letting me in first. I sat down in his chair and surveyed the room.

“So how has the last century been for you Carlisle? I see you’ve made others. Converted them to vegetarianism ay Carly?”

“I’ve always hated that nickname.”

“And I’ve never cared.” I smiled wickedly. He rolled his eyes before sitting in the chair in front of the desk.

“Why are you here Katerina?”

“It’s good you know my name in this life. It gets tiring for Milo and I remembering all of them.” I said flicking my wrist in dismissal.

“Katerina.”

“Right, you always just wanted me to get to the point.”

“I never appreciated the games you played.”

“Well it’s a good thing life is a game isn’t it Carlisle?” Carlisle glared at me in annoyance.

“Relax old friend, what I want is of the utmost importance.”

“Which is?”

“I gave you something the last time I saw you, something I entrusted you with. I told you to guard it with your life.” A look of recognition came upon Carlisle’s face.

“Ah yes, the box is still safe. May I finally know what is inside?”

“NO! To look into that box would kill you. It holds secrets centuries old. If anyone other than Milo and I look into it, it would melt your mind, dissolve your body until it’s a pile of dust.” Carlisle’s eyes widened.

“Why is it you wanted it protected and hidden so badly?”

“I have my reasons Carlisle. Now, where is the box?”

“I’ve hidden it in Egypt.”

“Funny how that works out.”

“What?”

“Nothing Carly, where in Egypt is it hidden?”

“In the Valley of the Kings.” It was so outrageous I threw my head back and laughed.

“And you weren’t cursed?” I said with a rueful smile.

“I didn’t disturb the mummy of a long dead pharaoh so I believe I am safe” I laughed once more before getting out of the chair. I walked up to Carlisle and whispered into his ear.

“You do not need to disturb a long dead pharaoh Carlisle. You will be cursed for as long as you live for disturbing the resting place of the nobles of Egypt. The curse comes in different forms, you should know what yours is.” And with that I was walking out of the room. I made my way quickly to the door. I speed walked to the forest feeling eyes on me the whole time. I turned my head slightly to see Alice standing at a window. I gave a small smile before walking into the forest.

*Alice’s P.O.V*

“Alice? What’s wrong?” Jasper’s voice sounded behind me.

“Nothing love, it’s just Kat and Milo.”

“What about them?” he asked wrapping an arm around me.

“Something’s wrong, I can’t see their future. Every time they are involved with our destiny it goes blank. It worries me.”

“Maybe they’re special?” I gave a halfhearted smile before turning to my husband.

“I think that’s enough talk. I’m sure there’s an explanation for it. Let’s go hunting.”

“A woman after my heart.” He said playfully, his southern twang coming out. I gave a tinkling laugh and raced him out of the house.

*Kat’s P.O.V*

I sat on my haunches, continuously poking Milo’s cheek. He opened his eyes before glaring at me and going in to slap the back of my head. I evaded his hit easily enough before motioning outside. He nodded and followed behind me.

“What is it?”

“We need to secure the box.”

“You know where it is?”

“You remember when I gave it to Carlisle?” he nodded.

“I went to the Cullen’s earlier-“

“I told you we can’t go into the forest alone Kat!”

“Well, I needed to get the box before they do, do you understand?” Milo sighed before nodding,
motioning for it to go on.

“We need to go to the Valley.” A wicked smile spread on Milo’s lips as he nodded.

“I’ll go pack a duffle. Book us a ticket, I’ll let mom and dad know that we’re going to visit grandma.”

“On it brother.” We both set off in different directions.

“Wait, Milo?”

“Yeah?”

“What about Paul and Leah? What are we going to tell them?”

“We’ll tell them that we’re going to our grandmother’s house in Africa, and there’s no cell signal or internet access.”

“But doesn’t that seem a little suspicious?”

“Maybe, but it’s the only way to keep us safe as well as them. The less they know the better.” I nodded before getting our tickets. We would be leaving later in the afternoon. I texted Paul, asking him to meet me at First Beach. Milo nodded in goodbye when I left. I now sat on First Beach waiting for Paul. He finally arrived and wrapped me up in his arms.

“You’re arms are cold, how long have you been waiting out here?” he asked, worry clear in his eyes.

“Not that long, three minutes or so. But that’s not why I asked you to meet me here.” I said seriously, his face immediately became panicked.

“What’s wrong? Are you in trouble? I can help you, we could run.” I gave him a said smile before shaking my head.

“I’m not in trouble Paul, but I’m leaving soon.”

“This afternoon.”

“Where are you going?”

“Africa,” I saw his eyes widen and tears start to make their way to the surface,” But I’m coming back. Milo and I are just going up there to visit my grandma for a couple weeks. I just…I didn’t want to make you upset.”

“It’s alright Kitty, we’ll just text and call.” He said with a sad smile.

“That’s the thing though, she lives in the middle of nowhere, there’s no cell service or internet access for that matter.” I lied. His face fell once more. Not able to take it I reached up and kissed Paul slowly.

“I’m sorry. I’m just looking forward to when I come back. Because I know I’ll get to kiss you again.” Paul seemed to brighten a little bit, but not by much. He made me promise to spend the rest of the day with him and drive me to the airport. I agreed, knowing that there would be no arguing with him. And that was when I knew the quest for the box would soon be starting.
