Love Song of the Sea

Holding out for a hero.

“No, Luke is the lightning thief!” Skank declared, glaring at me whilst attempting to come to Percy’s defense.

“He planted the bolt in the shield and—” She continued.

I was rather annoyed at the sound of her voice, “Save it, sweetheart.”

“Ah, feed them to the souls.” Father ordered as mother and I stood behind him.

Mother thrust her hand forward and the gates behind Goatboy, Skank, Percy, and his mother opened with a screech.

Souls reached out of the fire and I frowned sympathetically at them.

“Whoa! Whoa! Hold on! We had a deal!” Percy exclaimed as the four of them panicked.

“Let us go!” Percy added again, braver than he appeared.

“Andromeda, call the hounds!” Father ordered without missing a beat.

“Yes, father~” I complied before shouting a few Greek phrases that roughly translated to:

COCO! REESE! HEARTH! TIME FOR DINNER~

The hounds came bounding in and quickly cornered the quartet.

“Lassie! Sit! Sit!” Goatboy pleaded as I openly giggled.

“I am going to be King of the Gods!” Hades stated confidently.

Mother and I exchanged glances before she pulled him into a passionate kiss.

I snuck up behind him and quickly snatched the bolt whilst he was distracted.

Mother beamed at me whereas father simply rolled his eyes.

Very naughty girl, Andromeda! You’ll be grounded for centuries if you don’t---” Father began, frowning at me.

“Here mother!” I called, presenting her with the bolt.

She cried out in anger and shot a huge zap of lightning at father, causing him to pass out promptly afterwards.

After she did this, I quickly closed the gates and called off the hounds.

“Bad dog!” Goatboy called after Coco’s retreating figure.

“Why’d you do that?” Percy questioned us, probably confused with where our allegiances lie.

“BECAUSE!” Began mother, looking at him like he was crazy.

“He’s cruel and abusive! The only thing I look forward to is my allotted time away from this hellhole! A war of the Gods would put an end to that!” Mother rambled, glaring at father’s unconscious form.

“And we’d be alone, with only him. . .forever~” I finished scathingly.

“Go, take the bolt. . .and your mother!” Mother quickly handed the bolt to Percy who accepted it.

Percy looked dejectedly down at his hand, which only contained three pearls.

“Only three, huh?” she smirked.

“Each pearl can only transport a single person---” She began as I interrupted.

Persephone’s pearls, huh? Is that how you sneak in your secret lovers, mother dearest?” I taunted as mother slapped my shoulder lightly.

“Hush up, Andromeda~” she scolded.

I smiled innocently at her before turning to the visitors, “One of you will have to stay—“

“Urghhhhh~” I heard as father began to stir.

Everyone looked terrified as mother rolled her eyes.

“You two! Plug your ears!” Mother ordered.

“Wha-?” Percy questioned as Goatboy stared wide eyed at us.

“Do it now! Andromeda, sing~” The males hesitantly plugged their ears as I let sound escape my voice box.

Father is the only God I know who actually falls for this sort of thing.

“Andromeda~” He cooed, coming to a sitting position as the others watched intently.

Fatherrr~” I sang as his eyes glazed over.

Sleep and awaken much, much later~” I finished, whispering the notes so quietly it was hard to believe he heard me.

He yawned before falling back on the stone floor, out cold.

“You’re a siren?!” Goatboy’s was the first voice to break the peaceful silence.

“What of it?” I inquired, placing a hand on my hip.

“Technically half siren~” Mother called, standing next to Goatboy, a bit too close for his comfort.

“So you’re not the actual Andromeda? And you’re not daughter of Persephone and Hades?” Goatboy questioned.

“The actual Andromeda?” Percy questioned, unfamiliar with Greek myths, most likely.

“We don’t have time for this!” The skank spoke up as I scowled.

“We have to be on our way!” Percy agreed with determination evident in his eyes.

“Fine, fine. But you must leave the Satyr with me.” Mother ordered.

“What?!” Percy exclaimed.

“She’s right, dude. I should stay because I’m your protector.” Goatboy stated boldly.

“You’ll get him back eventually right? And I fear if you left your female with me instead, Andromeda would surely cause her strife. . .” Mother suggested and I inwardly cursed her for knowing me so well.

“Alright. . .” Percy sighed as Annabeth glared viciously at me.

Naturally, I glared back at the skank, twofold.

“Now, place the pearls upon the ground and crush them beneath your feet, keeping in mind in which place you wish to appear.” Mother directed curtly.

The three visitors followed suit, and eventually all that was left in the room was Goatboy, Mother, Father, and I.

“Care for dinner, Grover?” Mother questioned with a smirk.

“U-uhh baaah!” Goatboy stuttered before letting a pitiful bah to escape his lips.

Disgustingly enough, I was sure my mother could smell his fear.

And even worse, I could tell it turned her on.

“Come, Goatboy! Let’s get you some aluminum or something.” I rolled my eyes, dragging him away from my mother’s clutches.

Naturally, mother joined us for dinner.

“So, Grover. . .” My mother drawled from across the overly large dining table.

“Uh, yes, ma’am?” He questioned, taking a bite out of a soda can I had provided him with.

“You were curious about my daughter, weren’t you?” She inquired with a raised eyebrow.

“Y-Yes!” He stated in embarrassment.

“Well you see, Andromeda is not the Andromeda from the original Greek tale and such. However—oh, Andromeda go feed those damn dogs!” Mother ordered upon hearing Coco whining in the hallway.

“Tch.” I scoffed but did as she said.

“I named my baby girl after the Andromeda from the past, you know the story correct?” Persephone called, her head resting in the palm of her hand.

“Yeah.” Grover nodded a bit blankly.

“Well, just as Andromeda was trapped and left to her doom, my darling daughter is trapped in the pits of Hell, she hasn’t even seen the sunlight for crying out loud!” Persephone began bitterly.

“In naming her Andromeda, I had some small hope that she too would be rescued by a brave hero just as the real Andromeda was by Perseus. . .” Persephone continued.

“But she’s not actually your daughter, is she?” Grover interjected.

“Not mine, no. She was a dear friend’s daughter, a Siren acquaintance of mine, as you might’ve guessed. One who slept with my loving husband and died shortly after giving birth to Andromeda—from what I’ve heard, some sailors or something were the cause of her death, but anyway it has always been my dream my daughter and I could escape together, that I could watch her see the sunlight for the very first time. That she could play in the waters in which her mother swam, and feel grass beneath her toes—” Persephone continued, breaking out into sniffles.

“Don’t you get to leave every once in awhile?” Grover added again, feeling sympathetic for the poor queen of the underworld.

“Yes, but Hades doesn’t permit me to bring Andromeda with me, because she really is no child of mine.” Persephone rolled her eyes.

“In fact,” She continued, “The only reason he permits me to keep her here and raise her as my own is because being half-God, half-Siren, I pleaded that she would not blend in with the other mortal children he has yet to claim. It’s much too dangerous for her there.” Persephone finished, slamming her hand down on the dining table, causing the hellhounds in other rooms to bark.

“Uh, she’s still a Demigod, though. So she, na~ahh!” Grover began, breaking out into another bah.

“She still what?” Persephone inquired curiously.

Grover shook his head in contemplation, before devouring some of the food upon his plate.

He’d wanted to tell her that being a Demigod, Andromeda was probably welcome at Camp Half-blood, where she would also be quite safe, and wouldn’t have to worry about fitting in.

However, because she was a daughter of Hades, and had lived with him her entire life, it was unlikely that she could be trusted.
