Trashed & Scattered

Count the Headlights On the Highway

Instead of going back to the bus I ended up walking around the inside of the venue and listening to my iPod. The crew was bustling about trying to get stuff packed up so I didn't have to worry about being alone in the large arena.

My phone beeping in my pocket caught my attention from changing the song on my iPod which currently had Adelita's Way blasting through the headphones.

The text I had received instantly made me question the sanity of my best friend.

"close your eyes spin in a circle 3 times and repeat the phrase 'Joelle is amazing' each time. Do it now."

"You're a freak. I'm not even going to bother questioning you but ok I'm doing it right now."

I quickly did as I was told wondering how big of a freak I was appearing to be to anyone who walked by.

My phone beeped again and I opened my eyes to read the text.

"Turn 180 degrees and scream."

I raised my eyebrows in question before turning around . The scream came as an automatic response and not because I was told to do so by the person in front of me.

"Joelle!" I instantly found myself in the arms of my best friend with tears running down my face. Damn emotions.

"Well hello there stranger. I missed you too!" The smile that lit up her face only made mine bigger.

"What are you doing here?! I thought you couldn't make it?" my head tilted to the side as I tried to fit the pieces together.

"Well Gena found someone else to fill in for her and I took a weeks vacation to come see my sister. The Brian, Matt, and Val helped set it up since the guys couldn't know the other girls were coming. Why are you crying darling?" Her smile slowly turned into a frown when she noticed the tears on my face.

"I'm just a little frazzled and I missed you." I hugged her tighter before releasing her and shoving my iPod in my picket.

"What's got you so frazzled?"

My mind instantly went to thoughts of my baby and then to Brian and Michelle. I wasn't ready to discuss the pregnancy yet so I decided on telling her the latter.

"I just thought Brian might actually like me but Michelle and him were just flirting and...I don't know I guess I'm just kind of disappointed."

"Aw Hun, I'm sure you're just overreacting. To he honest I think he does like you. He's just worried you don't feel the same and he just doesn't want to push you into anything."

"So I see you found her. Did you like your surprise?" I jumped and placed my hand to my chest and spinning around quickly.

The entire group was standing behind me and I officially felt embarrassed. How much had they heard?

"Uh yea. Thanks for getting her out here. You have no idea how much it means to me." I had the biggest smile on my face as I quickly hugged Val. I gave Matt a small hug before glancing at Brian. Michelle was standing less than a foot away from him and I didn't really feel like getting between them.

"What I don't get a hug?" His face held disappointment and I couldn't help but give in. I gave him a tight hug before stepping next to Joelle once again. The glare Michelle sent me intensified the awkwardness I was feeling.

I was not going to fight over a guy when I had something more important to worry about now. Like my child. And as much as it pained me to admit defeat, I knew it was something. I had to do. No matter how much it disappointed me.

"So shall we get this show on the road?" Joelle was practically bouncing in excitement.

"Where are we going?" I was not aware of any plans for the night.

"We're going partying. There's a bar downtown we're gonna hit." Val was smiling excitedly. Unfortunately it was not something I was feeling at that moment.

"Oh..." I shifted my stance as everyone chattered happily about the news.

It took me a second to register the fact that Brian had stepped next to me.

"Not really feeling the bar scene tonight I'm guessing?" I didn't want to disappoint anyone with my bad mood so I forces the best smile I could and shook my head.

"I'm all for it actually. Gives me time to catch up with Joelle." He raised an eyebrow and I knew he didn't believe me but he didn't press the subject.

"Ok so Skylar, Joelle, and Brian are in one car. Me, Michelle, and Matt are in another. Jimmy, Johnny, Zacky, Lacy, Gena, and Leanna get the other two. Everyone alright with that?" Apparently Val had already arranged for our rides. Michelle kept her gaze on me, a glare fixed upon her face of course.

"Ok ok let's go!" The girls squealed and headed for the doors and I followed slowly behind. I could hear the guys laughing and chatting behind me. I quickly dug in my purse for my bottle of prenatal vitamins. I had placed them in the bottle labeled for my other medication so no one would notice. I had just swallowed them when I met Joelle at our taxi. She quickly slid across and I got in after her with Brian following me. The seat wasn't too crowded but our legs brushed together.

The ride was quiet for the most part besides Joelle's humming along to the radio. I could tell Brian kept glancing over at me but refused to acknowledge it.

Moments later we pulled up outside the bar. Joelle was the first to hop out and I quickly dug through my bag for some cash but before I could pull any out Brian payed the cabby and pulled me out the door.

"You're not paying for anything tonight. It's in us guys." He smirked knowing I would protest he quickly shook his head and pulled my beside him and walking us through the entrance.

"So what do you want to drink?" His smile made my heart leap. The first thought to pop in my head was beer but I knew right away that it wasn't possible.

"I'm just gonna get a water. I don't feel like drinking tonight." He nodded his head before making his way to the bar and leaving me at our booth in silent protest.

He returned a moment later with two waters and a Bud Light. One water was placed in front of me. He kept the other and handed the beer to Joelle who had found her way over. Everyone else was on the dance floor. It wasn't your average bar. It was actually quite large. It was more like a club.

"You're not drinking?" I was surprised, he always drank when they went out.

"Nah, I'll be your sober partner tonight." To say his statement shocked me would he putting it lightly.

"You don't have to do that. You can drink. I don't mind, promise." he just shook his head and took a large gulp of water.

"Nope. I'm good with water." I knew he suspected something was up when he kept his gaze on me. It was like he was just waiting fore to say what it was. But he wasn't actually that patient.

"Did I do something? You've been trying to get away from me all night." He finally blurted it out as he leaned forward resting his elbows on the table.

"No, why would you think that?" I fidgeted in my seat and attempted to keep eye contact. It seemed am impossible task when I could see the hurt in his eyes.

"Seriously? You were quick to run off when I came off stage, you were hesitant to give me a hug, you didn't want to come here tonight, and now you're trying to get me to leave you here at the table by yourself. And you can't even look me in the eyes. What did I do Sky?"

I sighed in defeat, knowing he had figured out something was wrong.

"You didn't do anything Bri." I let a sigh pass through my lips as I looked out towards the dance floor.

"Then what is it? What's wrong? Please talk to me. I really don't like when you're upset." He had came to my side of the table and scooted right up against me. His hand found it's way to my cheek as he made me look at him.

"I just...I don't want to start any trouble. I mean once we get back to California things will go back to how they were before..." He laughed and shook his head.

"So this is about Michelle?"

"No! No I just..I"

"Skylar." he chuckled a little bit before pulling me into a hug. I nearly melted into his embrace.

"Michelle and I are over. She's just a bitch. I won't let her do anything and I'm not getting back together with her." One of his hands was placed on the back of my head as he held me to his chest. I felt a deep rumble of laughter throughout his chest.

"Im sorry I'm so all over the place lately. I guess I'm just stressed or something? I really don't mean to act like a bitch Bri."

"Skylar you are not a bitch. You're allowed to have your moments. You're the least troublesome person I've ever met. You're independent, strong willed, and not to mention beautiful." I couldn't help but blush and smile at the compliments. He was such a sweetheart.

I felt him place a kiss to my head before pulling away.

"You don't need to worry about her. She'll be gone in two days and I'll even stick around so she doesn't bother you." I let out a light laugh and shook my head.

"I don't need a body guard Brian." I'm not going to fight her.

"I know, I just figured I could use it as an excuse to spend time with you." His smirk grew and I couldn't help but let out a loud laugh at his comment.

"Who says I want to spend time with you?" I had a smirk of my own as he feigned hurt.

I quickly placed a kiss to his cheek and laughed.

"Kidding of course." He nodded with a smile before leaning back in his seat, pulling me into his side with his arm around my shoulders. I cuddled into his side slightly before taking a sip of my water.

We sat there contently for a couple minutes before a slower song came on. I recognized it immediately as Tiny Dancer by Elton John.  It had always been a favorite of mine.

"Wanna dance?" I felt a blush cross my cheeks as I bit my lip, nodding nonetheless.

He quickly slid out of the booth, taking my hand and leading me to the dance floor. He quickly placed his hands on my waist pulling me up against him as I wrapped my arms around his neck bashfully. I never was a very bold person.

He held me against him as he sang along to the song, moving us back and forth to the beat. His fingers traced patterns on my hips as we moved. I could just barely see over his shoulder but when I glanced up I saw Joelle and the rest of the girls dancing behind him. I received approving and excited smiles from all of them except Michelle who currently glared from the bar.

Joelle was dancing with some random guy but not close enough to be out of line. I mean she did have a boyfriend. She just winked at me and gave me a thumbs up.

I couldn't help but let the smile on my face grow.

"What?" I glanced into Brian's eyes. He had a large smile on his face, waiting for my answer.

"Nothing, They're just being stupid." He chuckled and nodded before placing a kiss to my forehead. I giggled quietly and shook my head before laying it on his chest.

His arms wrapped all the way around my waist, holding me as close as possible. I heard him singing the words in my ear, his warm breath sending shivers down my spine.

I honestly don't think this moment could be any better.

When the song ended I quickly stood on my toes and placed a lingering kiss to his cheek. The smile on my face refusing to leave.

He laced his fingers through mine and led me back to the booth as a fast paced song came on. I was cuddled into his side as soon as we sat down. A few songs passed before Joelle and the rest of the group made their way back to the table.

Joelle slid in beside me as everyone else piled in randomly across from us and on the other side of Brian. We had the biggest booth in the whole place.

The only person missing was Michelle who currently had her tongue shoved down the back of some guys throat. Not that I'm complaining.

"So what have you two been up to?" The knowing smirks on all the girls faces and the laughter echoing form guy to guy only made me blush more.

"Aw look she's blushing." I fixed my glare on Joelle who was looking slightly tipsy.

"Oh come on guys leave us alone. We danced, no big deal." Brian squeezed me and began tracing shapes on my arm comfortingly.

Jimmy was rambling to himself about ducks in the corner. It was then that I noticed everyone else was well on their way to being trashed.

I let my mind wander as Brian talked with the guys about plans for the next day. We were there for another half hour before deciding to turn in for the night.

The guys quickly split the bill, refusing any of us girls from paying for anything.

Val went to grab the drunken slutty Michelle as we all headed outside. Brian's arm remained around my shoulders the entire time and he even opened the cab door for me. We sat in the same arrangement as we had on our way to the bar.

The ride to the bus was pretty quiet due to Joelle being asleep.

As soon as we arrived at the bus the couples made their way to their beds one by one. Each couple was sharing a bunk. Brian carried Joelle inside since she was out cold. I had him place her in my bunk after I changed her into a pair of sweats and a tee shirt. Michelle claimed the couch which ultimately left me without a bed for the night.

I didn't voice the issue though. Everyone, except for me and Brian, was asleep at this point. We had already changed into our pajamas by the time the lights were turned out. Brian, who was climbing into his bunk while I was grabbing a spare pillow from my bunk being careful not to wake Joelle, suddenly stopped and turned towards me.

"What are you doing?"

"Grabbing a spare pillow so I can go to sleep?" I raised an eyebrow in question to the obvious sight.

"And where are you sleeping?" His arms were crossed in front of his bare chest as he waited for my answer.

"On the floor. All the beds are occupied. And no I am not taking your bunk from you, so don't even bother offering to take the floor."

He smirked lightly before taking a small step towards me and picking me up. Next thing I knew I was face down in his bunk. He quickly climbed in behind me, blocking my escape.

"Who said anything about either of us sleeping on the floor. That's a pretty ridiculous idea. There's plenty of room up here for both of us."

I rolled onto my back with a huff and shoved my hair out of my face.

"You don't have to share your bunk, seriously I can sleep on the floor." He just shook his head before rolling onto his back with a smile.

"Come here my cuddle buddy." I blushed as he patted his chest before cuddling up to him. My head and arm rested on his chest while he wrapped his arms around me.

His scent was intoxicating and I felt myself smiling immediately. He slowly began running his hand through my hair softly and humming Tiny Dancer again.

I allowed my fingers to softly trace the exposed tattoos on his chest.

"Hey Skylar?" I felt him shift slightly and lifting his head to look down at me before placing a kiss to the top of my head.

"hmm?" I was too comfortable to move so I simply hummed out my reply.

"What would you say if I were to ask you out?"

My breath hitched in my throat as I forced my hand not to go to my stomach.

"I..I don't know Bri...I just."

"Calm down Skylar." He quickly placed another soft kiss to my head before speaking again.

"I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend or anything. Just a date. Nothing fancy because I know you aren't into that kind of stuff. Just a simple date."

I could tell he was slightly nervous from the quiver in his voice. He remained quiet as I considered his request.

I lifted my head, placing my chin on his chest as I looked into his eyes. I had made my decision but wanted him to sweat it out a little more.

I once again laid my head on his chest before giving him an answer.

"Ok."

"Ok?" He had frozen momentarily at my answer.

"Yes Brian. I'll go on a date with you." A smile formed on my lips as he let out a breath of relief before pulling me closer to him.

He tilted my head and placed a kiss to my forehead before shifting to get comfortable. The grin on his face was ten miles wide and I could only chuckle at his happiness.

"Thank you. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist my charm." I scoffed before poking his chest.

"Don't be mouthy. I could always change my mind."

"You will do no such thing!" I had to pace my hand over his mouth to quiet his loud voice.

"Shh! Everyones sleeping Bri." I giggled quietly but made a disgusted face as he licked my hand.

"ewwww. That's gross." He laughed quietly before hugging me again. I curled up to him as we both got comfortable. His arm was wrapped sound me with his hand running through my hair.

"Sweet dreams Skylar." He placed one final kiss to my head.

"Sweet dreams Bri." I placed a soft kiss to his cheek before closing my eyes for the night.
