Sweet Home Arizona.

Four

“Do you realize how old you; you can’t be getting married?” I rolled my eyes at my mom as she went on.
“John and I love each other mom and he asked me to be his wife. You can’t stop me from marrying my true love.”
“Mason you’re only 17 years old. You’re still in high school and have still have college ahead of you. I love John to death but I’m not letting you marry him.” I jumped up from my chair and started to walk away but she stopped me. “Mason Taylor don’t you dare walk away from me. I’m just trying to look out for you sweetheart. What happens if John isn’t the one you want to be with for the rest of your life. What happens if you get pregnant and John’s not there for you?” I looked at her and sighed.
“Mom that’s not going to happen. We both talked about it and agreed that we would both be there for our child. And also John is the person God wanted me to be with.” My mom just simple rolled her eyes and left the room.

“Mason, mom wants you down for breakfast.” I slowly turned over and looked at my little sister. Taylor was 10 years old the last time I saw her. I couldn’t believe how much she had grown.
“Ok tell her I’ll be down in a minute.” She nodded her head and started to walk out the door but stopped.
“I really missed you Mason.” I gave a smile.
“I missed you a whole lot more Taylor.” She gave a huge smile and walked out of the room.
I pulled the covers off of my body and walked over to the window. Today was going to be another beautiful, hot day. I took my phone off of the table and dialed Luke’s number. After 3 rings he finally answered.
“I was just thinking about you baby.”
“Well I’m glad I decided to call. I miss you.”
“I miss you too baby; we’ll be together in 2 more days.”
“I know; I can’t wait.”
“Me either Macy. Hey listen, I have to go to another meeting but I will call you later.”
“Okay babe; bye.”
“Bye sweetie.” I threw my phone on the bed and made my way out of my room. I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, shocked by what I saw. Sitting at the middle of the table was John O’Callaghan himself. He was stuffing his face with breakfast food and having a conversation with my dad. What the hell was going on?
“Oh hi honey. Have a seat and I’ll bring you your food.” John’s head shot up and his eyes locked with mine. He gave me a small grin as I slowly took a seat next to him.
“Why are you here?”
“Mason don’t be rude. John graciously brought your car here and I think you should say thank you.” I looked at my mom like she was high. She was tell me to say thank you; am I 4 years old or something?
“Thank you John.” He placed another piece of bacon in his mouth and smiled.
“You’re welcome Mason.” I couldn’t help but laugh as the words came out muffled.
My mom placed my plate down in front of me and gave me a wink. I looked at her for a second but just brushed it off. We all ate our breakfast while making small talk. I couldn’t shake the feeling that John was looking at me. I even felt his hand brush up against my upper leg; and it was no accident either.
“Mrs. King the breakfast was wonderful.” MY mom smiled at John and thanked him.
“Can you give me a ride home?” I looked over at John and sighed.
“Yeah I guess.” I got up from my chair and took the keys off the table. I watched as John hugged my mom and shook hands with my dad. When the hell did they become so chummy?
“Are you ready?” I asked interrupting their little love fest. John nodded his head and followed me out the door. “So does your parents know about Abercrombie?” I rolled my eyes and looked at him.
“What the fuck are you doing here John?”
“I was having a fabulous breakfast with your family. The family you abandoned when you left.” He came closer to me and cornered me against the car door. “I want you to come to the lake with me today.” I let out a laugh and pushed him away.
“There’s no in hell I’m going to the lake with you.” John gave me one of his signature smirks.
“If you don’t come to the lake with me, then I won’t sign the papers. Won’t it be great to be married to me the rest of your life. How would Mr. Abercrombie feel about that?” I hated it when he did this to me.
“What time?” I asked through gritted teeth.
“I’ll pick you up in an hour; don’t be late.” He opened up the car door and slid inside. I couldn’t believe I just agreed to go to the lake with him.
An hour later, John pulled up in his white pickup truck. The last time I rode in that truck was when I was pregnant with Paisley.
“Is that thing safe to be in?”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get a limo to pick you up like Abercrombie does. Just get your ass in the truck and stop bitching.” I rolled my eyes and quickly got inside the contraption. I could hear Tom Petty playing softly in the background; typical John.
“What lake are we going to?” He pushed his ray bans back over his eyes and looked over at me.
“Canyon.”
“That’s 2 hours away John.” There was no way I was spending two hours in a car with him.
“Do you want the papers signed?” I nodded my head. “Well then shut up and just enjoy the ride.” I crossed my arms over my chest and slumped down in the seat. I couldn’t believe I even agreed to this in the first place.
The first 30 minutes into the ride was completely silent. I was going to go crazy if it was going to be like this the whole trip down there.
“So uh how have you been?” John let out a laugh and turned the radio down.
“Are you seriously asking me that Mason?” I nodded my head and smiled. Maybe if I was super nice to him, he would sign the papers without any problem. But then again it was John, so there is always going to be a problem.
“Are you going to answer my question?”
“I’ve been busy Mason. How have you been?”
“You know, basically the same.” He nodded his head but I doubt it was because of what I said.
“How’s the band doing?”
“It’s doing pretty good. We’re in the studio right now making a new album.”
“That’s awesome John.”
“Quit acting Mason, I know what your trying to do.” Damn it.
“Fine!” I turned my body towards the window and watched as we passed nothing but trees. Great this would be the perfect place for John to kill me.
“How did you meet Abercrombie?”
“We had a couple classes together in college and we ended up having to work on a report together. Why?”
“I was just wondering.”
“Have you met anyone since we split up?”
“I’ve been with a few girls but it was just a fuck and go kind of situation.” A pang of jealousy went through my body.
“Oh that’s nice.”
“Yeah.” Then the silent awkwardness came back into play.
“Do you remember when we took Paisley to the lake?” I looked out the window as the flashback came into my mind. I could still remember it like it was yesterday.
“Those were good times when we didn’t have a care in the world. We just had each other and nobody else mattered.” John looked over at me and smiled.
“I wish it was still like that.” In my head I was thinking the same thing.
We finally arrived at the lake and it was jammed pack with people. But I guess that’s what happens on a Saturday afternoon. I took my seat belt off and hopped out of the truck. John soon followed and walked to my side.
“We have to go get the boat first.” I nodded my head and followed him. I couldn’t help but stare as he walked in front of me. His bare back was so muscular and not to mention his ass was looking good too. I couldn’t believe I was thinking those things right now. I had a fiancé and John and I were over; the end. But yet I still couldn’t take my eyes off of him.
“Mason, did you hear what I said.” I snapped out of my staring and looked at John.
“What?” He chuckled to himself and walked over to me.
“I said go pay for the gas.” I nodded my head and hurried over to the little shop. I couldn’t help but feel totally embarrassed. John had caught me staring at him; great.
I quickly paid the guy and walked back over to John. He was already in the boat getting things running.
“Here’s your change.” He took the money but didn’t let go of my hand. “What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to help you in but if you don’t want me touching you then I won’t.” His hand let go of mine. Great now I made it seem like I was some stuck up bitch.
“John I don’t mind.” He slowly walked back over to me and helped me into the boat. When I landed in the boat, I noticed how close our bodies were.
“Thanks.” I whispered. Our hands were still joined as well, but for some reason I didn’t mind that either.
‘You’re welcome Mason.” We looked into each other’s eyes and it felt like an eternity before we stopped.
“So uh where on the lake are we going.” We broke apart and John walked back over to the steering wheel.
“Well I was thinking about the spot we used to go to. You know the one by the cliffs.”
“Sounds good too me.” I took a seat on one of the benches and watched all the people around us. Young people like John and I just enjoying each others company.
The boat rumbled to a start and soon we were off. The spot where we were headed held a lot of memories. It was the place where we lost our virginity, where John purposed, and where Paisley was conceived. To say it was just a coincidence that John picked this place would be a huge understatement. He had a motive for this trip and I wasn’t going to be apart of it; at least I hope not.
We finally made it to the spot, which was completely empty. Coincidence I think not!
“This place looks the same.”
“Well I don’t think mountains and water change their appearance Mason.” I rolled my eyes and took off my hoodie and shorts. I could feel John’s eyes roaming all over my body and I couldn’t help but smile. Luke and I never did stuff like this. We mostly stayed in stuffy hotel penthouses or his parent’s huge house in The Hanptons. He would never go down to the beach with me, saying he had too much work to do. John was completely different. He would drop so much for me just so we could be together. The band or anything else ever got in our way.
“Are you going to go swimming?” I nodded my head.
“Are you?”
“Of course I am Mason.” Before I could reply, he jumped into the huge body of water.
As he resurfaced, I couldn’t help but start staring again. His whole body was soaking wet and it made him look even more like a hunk.
“Come on Mace, the water is excellent.” He gave me a smile and continued to look up at me. I was very hesitant to go into the water, but what the hell. You only live once right? I dived into the water and swam over to where he was.
“Remember when you almost drowned on our 3rd date?” I couldn’t help but laugh as I remembered the moment.
“It was your fault that almost happened.”
“How was it my fault; you’re the one who went head first?”
“But you’re the one who dared me to dive off the cliffs.” He rolled his eyes and smiled.
“You’re so beautiful Mason.” His rough hand softly started stroking my cheek. I not sure what was going on, but I was starting to lean into his touch. John always had this affect on me in any situation.
“Why did I ever let you leave?” I looked into John’s eyes and saw remorse.
“It’s the way things were supposed to be John. It wasn’t our destiny to stay together.”
“I don’t believe that shit Mace. We still have the chance to make this right and I plan on doing that.” Oh god, this was the time to get away. But the thing was that I couldn’t.
“John I have a fiancé waiting for me back in New York. We are getting married in 3 months and nothing is going to change that.” He pulled me up against his body and whispered words I would never forget.
“I’m going to change that right now.” And with that, his luscious lips were placed on mine. I instantly entangled my fingers in his wet hair. My head was tell me to pull away but my heart wasn’t letting me. John lips removed themselves from mine and found their place on my neck. I couldn’t help but moan as he worked on the spot that drive me wild.
“I love you so much Mason.” That’s when I snapped out of the haze I was in and pushed his body away.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I swam back over to the boat and climbed in.
“This is totally wrong John. You can’t be pulling these little mind games with me right now. The only reason I agreed to come out here was because you were going to sign the papers. Have you even signed the papers John, or was this a plan to get in my pants?” He looked down at the water and then back to me. That’s when I knew that it was just a scam. I should have seen this coming but I was too caught up in John drama.
“Take me home now.” Without any hesitation John was back into the boat taking us back.
