Just Keep Breathing.

The next morning I took a taxi to her apartment and we decided to just take the train to Sheffield. It would be quicker that was for sure.

"Nervous?" I asked as she stared out the window as the landscape blurred by.

She quickly looked over at me her green eyes brighter than usual, "why would I be nervous?"

"Cause yeh only know meh."

"I meet people I don't know all the time."

"Yeah and yeh propa quiet."

She shrugged with a grin before looking back out the window. It was hard not to wonder what she was thinking about. She was so quiet and kept to herself it drove me insane and made me want her even more, all at the same time.

"Who's picking us up?" She asked breaking the silence.

"Um, Matty. He's in my brothas band actuallah."

She nodded and I gave her a grin, "brace yehself. He doesn't have a filter."

She groaned and I laughed as she leaned her head back on the seat. Once we arrived in Sheffield I grabbed up our bags and she followed close behind me.

It didn't take long to find Matt who was screaming at me like a lunatic and waving his arms frantically.

"Mate." He said grabbing me and hugging me like I had been away for weeks.

"Dude. It's been less than a week!" I groaned.

"It's propa borin' wifout yeh!" He said releasing me and his eyes landed on Katie.

"Oh. Shit Tom yeh go ta London and come back wif a bird? Yeh slag." He said punching my arm and I rolled my eyes, "this is Katie. Katie, Matty."

"Katie, Matty. Sort of rhymes." He said as he put his hand out. She shyly placed hers in his and he kissed the top of it causing me to laugh at how red her face got.

"Nice ta meet yeh."

She nodded and clung to my arm. A grin hit his lips, "she's cute. Did yeh kidnap her?" He asked seriously.

"What?!" I asked loudly.

She started laughing and he smiled as if he achieved something.

"No I didn't kidnap her." I said as we followed him to his car.

"Are yeh doin' this ta get back at Lexi?" He asked once we got in the car and I winced at her name.

"No." I mumbled and I could feel Katie staring at me.

"Who's Lexi?" She asked which surprised me.

"His ex sort of person who is wif his brotha now."

"Oh. That's not weird or anything." She said and Matty nodded in agreement.

I rolled my eyes and stared out the window.

"She's fit." Matty whispered and I looked over at him and he shot his eyes to Katie in the back and I grinned, "Yeah. Wait till yeh round her."

He chuckled and spoke to Katie, "hey lil one."

"Yes?"

"Where yeh from?"

"Texas."

"Bloody hot there!"

She giggled, "I know. It's cold here."

"Are yeh and Tom like shaggin' or somefin? He doesn't bring home random birds."

I shoved him as he laughed and I knew she was blushing like crazy.

"Um, no."

"Oh don't be shy. Yeh can tell meh."

She laughed, "we're just friends."

Matty nodded and I told him to shut up.

Once we arrived at my house, the one I mistakenly lived in with Oliver, I got a bit tense. I just didn't know what to expect and it made me nervous.

"You ok?" She asked linking her arm with mine as we reached the porch. I couldn't help but give her a smile, "Yeah. I'm ok."

I think so anyways.

Matty of course busted in first and I slid my hand to Katie's and pulled her in as I carried our bags with the other.

"Um, do yeh have a problem stayin' in meh room? I mean I plan ta sleep on tha couch cause I mean we don't reallah have a extra bed." I said and she nodded, "that's fine."

I gave her hand a squeeze and pulled her up the stairs to my room.

"Now, it's not as clean as yehs." I teased and she giggled as I opened the door.

"You're a boy. It's expected." She said as we walked in. It really wasn't that bad. I mean clothes, pictures and cds covered half the floor but at least it wasn't gross.

"Oh Messy Tom." She joked as she noticed my unmade bed.

"Yeh gonna end up cleanin' it huh?" I asked as I noticed her looking around.

A grin hit her lips, "Maybe..."

I laughed, "don't."

"It bothers me!"

"Then lets leave!"

She giggled the whole way down the stairs as I mumbled about my cluttered room.

"Oye can't even say ello ta yeh brotha?!" Oli shouted as we entered the living room. Of course Lexi was sitting next to him and I felt myself grow a bit uncomfortable.

"Sorrah!"

"Yeh muss beh Katie." Oli said flashing a smile in her direction.

"Yeah and you must be Oli."

He chuckled, "That I am."

"Isn't she cute? She's like tha littlest bird eva. Like pocket size!" Matty said and I couldn't help but laugh.

She began to blush and I pulled her into my side, "Matty, don't let her quietness fool yeh. She can be mean so watch what yeh say."

"I'm not mean." She said softly.

"Oh she is." I joked and she glared up at me.

"Oh this is Lexi." Matty said giving Kate a look like she wouldn't get it the first time around.

"Hi." She said giving her one of her sweet smiles that showed her cute dimples. Lexi of course smiled and waved.

"I juss wanna pinch yeh cheeks." Matty said walking past us and patting her cheek.

"Oye." I said pulling her closer to me. Matty laughed and I could feel Katie laughing beside me which caused me to smile.

I looked down at her right as she looked up at me.

"I'm sorrah love. I told yeh." I said brushing her hair from her face.

"It's ok. He's not so bad."

"Hey yeh two gonna come out wif us tonight?" Matty asked ruining my little moment with her.

"Um..." I said looking back down at her waiting for her to say if she wanted to or not.

"I don't care."

"Sure?"

She nodded and I looked back at Matty, "Yeah. We will."

"Good. Hey, she's shorta than Lee! He's gonna be ecstatic."

I laughed and Katie shot a look at him, "Watch it you british kid."

Of course her saying that in the serious tone she did, everyone including me, busted out laughing.

"Ohhh I like her." Matty said through his laughter.

"Yeah? Well come show me where the bathroom is if that's so." She said grabbing onto his arm and he chuckled, "right this way me lady. Tom isn't a gentleman doesn't show yeh were anyfing is." He said as they walked down the hall. I rolled my eyes with a chuckle as I sat down.

Imediately Oli and Lexi looked over at me.

"What?"

"She's prettah." Oli stated.

"I know." I responded rolling my eyes.

"Yeah she seems nice." Lexi chimed in like I cared what she really thought although I said I'd be friends it wasn't that easy.

"She is."

"Do you like her?"

"What is this? 20 questions? Look, we're juss friends. Nuffin more. Yes she's prettah, yes she's nice and everyfing else but, we're juss friends." I snapped.

I mean could I not do anything without being questioned?

Matty returned and fell beside me and I looked over at him.

"She knows how ta get back chill. But, hey, I like her." He said causing me to laugh at how serious he said it.

"She's prettah brill. Juss wait til she warms up ta yeh."

"She has. I escorted her ta tha bafroom. I bet we'll be friends by tonight."

I chuckled as she walked back into the living room. Her eyes fell on mine and I waved her over.

"Move meanie." She said shoving Matty and he laughed but scooted over for her.

"Jeez. Bossy."

She giggled as she wrapped her arm around mine and I placed my hand on her knee.

Of course I lied. In fact, I liked her. I could feel that feeling I was trying to never feel again taking over and I didn't know how to stop it but lie to everyone so maybe I'd believe it too.

But she was too sweet. I couldn't help it when she did adorable things without really knowing she was, like now for instance. I looked down at her and she gave me a grin. I brought my free hand to her cheek and brushed her hair from her face like I always have to, well chose to do.

"Sure yeh wanna go tonight?" I asked softly. I never really knew if she was saying she wanted to or she was saying what I wanted to hear and I didn't want her to do anything she didn't want to.

"Yeah. Promise." She responded.

"Ok." I whispered before I kissed her nose and her cheeks turned a pink color. She buried her face into the sleeve of my shirt quickly and I tried not to laugh.

Before I could even speak to her she squealed and almost threw herself into my lap.

"What?!" I asked a bit alarmed from her outburst.

"He tickled me!" She said pointing to Matty who was laughing hysterically.

"Matty! Bloody hell leave tha bird alone!" Oli said and I wrapped my arms around Katie's waist taking advantage of her being in my lap.

"Poor girl is going to be terrified to ever come back." Lexi said causing Katie to laugh.

I know Lexi didn't do anything to me. Well, not really anyways, but I didn't even like the thought of her being buddy, buddy with Katie. Katie was nothing like her and I wanted to keep her that way. I liked how she was. Shy, sweet, adorable, funny. None of that needed to change.

"Well, a few houas before we go out so i'm gonna go home and take a nap ta rest up."Matty said hoping up from the couch.

"See yeh lata my lil buddy." He said pinching Katie's cheek and she swatted at his hand as I laughed.

Oli and Lexi had snuck away and it was just her and I sitting in the living room. She looked at me and spoke quietly, "you're cuter than him."

"Then who?" I asked a bit confused.

"Oli."

"Yeh fink I'm betta lookin' than Oli?" I asked just to make sure I was hearing her correctly.

She nodded and I just stared at her.

"She doesn't seem bad."

"Lexi?" I asked and she nodded as she fiddled with the sleeve of my shirt.

"She's not. She juss, yeh know. I dunno hurt meh prettah bad. Although I sort of let her."

She looked up at me confusion settled in on her cute face, "what do you mean?"

"We grew up wif her. Oli and her had always been closa and I knew tha two of them liked each otha yet I juss let it keep happenin' then I ended up fallin' for her and course she chose Oli. I can't say I blame her it juss still sucks."

"Well you know what I say when bad things happen?"

I smiled, "what?"

"Everything happens for a reason."

"Yeah. I believe that." I said softly as I brushed her hair behind her ear.

She nodded, "me too."

"I mean, i'm glad though cause I mean, I got ta meet yeh."

She blushed, "Yeah back at you."

She laid her head on my chest and I brushed her hair with my fingers. Fuck. What was I getting myself into?

"Hey let's get some sleep." I said softly, "trust me. Yeh gonna need it."

She laughed, "Ok."

She got up from my lap and grabbed my hand and a grin hit my lips as she pulled me to my room.

"Gonna lay in my messy room?" I asked kicking off my shoes.

"Yeah. Guess so." She said with a smile as she pulled her shoes off gently and placed the next to the wall. I chuckled at her neatness.

"Stop laughing at me."

"I can't! Yeh do everyfing so neatly!"

"Fine." She said picking up her shoe and throwing it into the middle of my room causing me to go into a fit of laughter.

She glared at me before laying onto my bed.

"Yeh so sillah."

"I don't understand why everything I do is so funny."

"Cause. Yeh so little and cute that when yeh yell or do somefin tryin' ta be mean it's so funny cause it doesn't suite yeh. " I said laying beside her.

"Well, I don't like being mean." She mumbled.

I chuckled, "it doesn't fit yeh anyways."

She gave me a soft smile and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

"So, how long ago was Lexi and you?" She asked and I sighed, "I dunno almost a month ago I fink."

She nodded and I felt the need to defend myself, "I honestly don't have feelins for her anymore. I fink I did juss cause we literally spent every day togetha and yeh kind of have no choice yeh know?"

She nodded and I brought my hand to her hair.

"I'm sorry." She said as I twirled her hair around my fingers.

"Bout what?"

"That happened to you."

"Quite alright love. Like yeh said, everyfing happens for a reason."

"Yeah, I just know how it feels."

I frowned at the thought of her hurting like I did. Why would anyone do anything to hurt her?

"Yeh lass boyfriend?"

"Yeah. He was a jerk anyways."

"When did this happen?"

"A while. We've been broke up for like a year."

"What happened?"

"Well we were together 4 years, apparently that means nothing. He cheated." She said with a shrug.

I didn't even know the guy and I hated him already.

"I'm sorry love." I said softly brushing her cheek with the back of my hand. Who could do that to her?

She gave me a smile, "it's whatever."

"It's not. Who could do that to yeh? Yeh tha sweetest bird I've eva met. Makes no sense. He must be stupid."

"Guess he is."

I kissed her cheek causing a pink tint to hit them.

"I'm propa sorrah. Yeh don't deserve that." I whispered.

She shrugged and buried her face into my shirt. I sighed and wrapped my arms around her.

"Have yeh not date since then?"

"No..."

"Why? What did yeh tell me the otha day? Don't change just cause a few people didn't preciate yeh."

"I don't. I just, haven't found anyone I'm interested in."

I chuckled, "picky huh?"

"Yes. I don't think that's a bad thing."

"No, it's not." I said softly holding her to me.

Hopefully I was good enough for her to pick me.

I kissed her forehead gently and she fell asleep in my arms. I had no choice in the matter. I was falling for her and she wasn't helping any. My plan to find something wrong with her was failing miserably, so what did I do now?
