Without Love

‘’Melissa let’s go out for drinks.’’ My best friend said to me smiling. We’ve been friends for years and eight days ago we had sex. Since then he was ignoring me, but there he was in my house actually asking me out for a couple of drinks. I was so broken these seven days while he was avoiding me that I wanted to see him at least. Even at the company we worked at, he never came to talk to me. He would look towards my way as he went to someone else’s office but that was it…nothing more.

“Drinks?” I questioned him and he smiled at me.

“Drinks!” His said as his dark brown eyes widened.

“What for?” I asked curious because I knew Keith never went out drinking. He only did when he was depressed but judging by the smile on his face, he was extremely happy.

“Lina dumped me.” His eyes were twinkling as I stared at him.

“Then why the hell are you happy?” I asked confused. Him being single made me happy but I had never been lucky in love even though I loved him from the first time I met him. It made me sick to see him so in love with someone else but I was holding my feelings deep inside my heart because I was so afraid of losing him.

“We kind of weren't working.” He shrugged before he continued, “I didn't want to break up with her. I don't like seeming like the jerk in any relationship.”

What? They always seemed like the perfect couple. They went everywhere together, they did everything together. Even though I didn't want them to work, I always thought that they would be together forever. They complemented each other nicely and I had to admit that.

“So how about those drinks?” He said breaking me from my trance. I thought about it for a minute and realizing that may be my chance, I agreed.

“Why not?” I smiled at him.

‘’Okay, I’ll pick you up in four hours.’’ He said smiling and caressed my dark brown hair before he left. I was excited to go out with him tonight. I wanted to be really pretty so he wouldn’t be able to take his eyes away from me. I quickly went to my bedroom and started picking out clothes for the night. I wanted everything to be perfect so the sooner I started the better.
