I Don't Believe in Fairytales

The Truth

"Fuck!" I yelled out after burning my hand on the stove.

Waking up a few hours ago I decided to make Matt and I some breakfast. I had cooked us up each a couple of eggs and some bacon. While I went to clean up I had forgotten the stove was still hot. Without thinking I had grabbed the pan with one hand and placed my other hand on the hot stove which ended up in burning my flesh. I inspected the red skin on the inside of my hand blowing on it to relief the itching sensation.

Being too immersed in the pain in my hand I had not noticed the other presence in the room. A scream erupted from my throat as I jumped out of my skin when I felt a hand on my shoulder. Turning around I came face to face with a sleepy Matt wearing only a pair of boxers. I tried not to stare at his toned chest as I averted my gaze down. I noticed I was only wearing Matt's shirt making my cheeks heat up.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," he apologized.

"It's okay I didn't realize you were awake. I made us some breakfast and there is coffee, if you want," I said motioning towards the food with my good hand.

Cradling my hurt hand to my chest I walked over towards the sink in the kitchen. I turned on the faucet placing my hand under the running water. A sigh escaped through my lips at the cooling sensation of the cold liquid on my burning skin.

"Are you okay?" Matt asked.

He moved from his position at the counter where the food was as he made his way to stand beside me. Turning off the faucet and grabbing my arm he brought my hand closer to his face inspecting the burn.

"What happened?" He inquired.

"I burned myself when I went to clean the stove," I explained.

"Well, water is not going to fix your problem. I should have some cream for burns in the first aid kit. Stay here and I will go get it," he told me as I nodded my head.

He walked out of the kitchen going further down the hall. Resting my body against the granite counter I leaned my body weight onto it. I turned to the microwave seeing the time on it read twelve in the afternoon. My attention was brought back to Matt as he re-entered the kitchen with a first aid kit.

Placing the white small box on the counter top as he opened it up and took out a white tube. He untwisted the cap squeezing out a glob of white cream onto his pointer finger. Grabbing my hand he rubbed the cream onto my skin making the burning sensation cool.

"Thanks," I said once he finished taking care of it.

"No problem," he said putting everything back into the kit.

After I was all fixed Matt and I went to serve ourselves the food I had made. Once we got our food we both sat down at the table in the dining room across from each other. Not being real hungry I only picked at my food eating small bits. I glanced up from my food to see Matt inhaling his breakfast. A giggle slipped from my mouth filling the quiet room making him look up at me.

"What?" He asked through a mouth full of scrambled eggs.

"Eww, don't talk with your mouth full, that is disgusting," I said making him chuckle.

We finished our breakfast in comfortable silence both of us getting up from the table at the same time and putting our plates in the sink. I started cleaning up the dishes as Matt helped me by drying and placing them back into the cabinets.

After the kitchen was cleaned up I turned around facing Matt to see him staring down at me. His piercing hazel eyes were making me uncomfortable as I shifted my weight from one foot to the other.

"So, what are we doing today, Matt?" I asked snapping him out of his daze.

"I have something I want to show you but first let's go get dressed," he said.

I agreed as we exited the kitchen and walked down the hall to the only bedroom. Once inside the room I went to the closet looking through the clothes that I had brought here. I picked out my favorite denim shorts along with a black tank top and a pair of black converse. Holding the clothes in my arms I stepped into the adjoined bathroom as Matt started to change in the room.

I slipped off Matt's over sized t-shirt before dressing in the clothes. After I finished getting dressed I didn't bother to put my make-up on as I raked my fingers through my hair. Taking one last glance in the mirror before I stepped out of the bathroom and into the bedroom to see Matt all done and waiting for me.

"Ready?" He asked.

"Yup," I replied.

We walked out of the bedroom making our way to the front door as he led me out of the cabin and to the outside world. It was mid-afternoon so it was sunny and not a gray cloud in the sky. Matt's calloused hand grabbed onto mine pulling me along as he ventured out into the surrounding forest.

"Where are we going Matt?" I asked trying to freak out as the possibilities of him killing me in the woods was running through my mind.

"There is something I want to show you, it's not that far from here," he explained.

We continued to venture through the woods with Matt tugging me along. I tried to stay up with him but I kept stumbling from the tree roots and rocks in my path. My gaze was focused on the ground to keep myself from tripping that I did not notice Matt stopped walking until I smacked face first into his back.

"We're here," he announced.

I peered around Matt's body taking in my surroundings. In front of us was a beautiful lake with crystal blue water. The sun was shining in the open body of water and it looked so peaceful and serene with the many trees all around.

"What do you think?" Matt asked breaking my concentration.

"It's beautiful," I said looking up at him to see he was staring and smiling at me.

"I thought you would like it," he admitted, "Do you want to go for a swim?"

"Why are you doing all of this, Matt? Why the sudden change of being so nice to me? You know I don't have the same feelings for you," I said not knowing if that was the whole truth.

He was silent for a while the only sound around us was the birds chirping in the distance. His jaw was clenched tight and his hands were balled into fists. Hazel eyes met my green eyes as he let out a sigh.

"I know you don't but I just thought if things changed then you would. I don't want to be the same man that I am buying women to force to have sex with me. You make me want to change myself. The only reason I got the deathbat tattooed on you was so you wouldn't ever leave me," he confessed.

No words were forming in my head due to the shock of his confession. He just told me that he wants to change himself for me. As he looked at me now I can not recognize the same man I did when I first met him. He looks like a lost puppy asking me for forgiveness. What he just told me was changing the way that I thought about him.

"Matt, I don't know what to say," I admitted.

"Just give it a shot so I can show you the real Matt," he begged.

My heart was torn as Matt wanted me too give him a chance to show his real self. I know he had asked of this before but deep down in my gut I had a feeling he was speaking the truth. Part of me wanted to tell him yes because I wanted to forgive and forget the past but in a way I felt like I was betraying Brian. I have deep feelings for Brian and I don't want this to change that.

"Okay Matt," I said as a huge grin was plastered on his face.

Deep inside of me I'm sure I made the right decision. Seeing that genuine smile on his face stirred something in my stomach. I have never felt that before but I put it into the back of my mind. If this was the first day here I can only imagine how the next few days is going to be like.
