A Kiss Before She Goes

Chapter 12

The month passed by really quickly. It was the weekend of Kyle’s party. Everyone at school had been talking about it nonstop. I talked to the boys if they wanted to go and agreed because they heard lots of booze was going to be there. I was at home getting ready for the party. I wore a silver silk dress that had a lace top with black sheer rose tights and black high heels. I walked to Frank’s house knocking on the door. Ms. Iero answered the door.

“Sweetie you look gorgeous!” She gushed as she let me.

“Thank you.” I said blushing. I walked upstairs and entered Frank’s room. He was on his bed tying his converse. He looked up and took a second look.

“Whoa.” I laughed doing a little twirl for him. “You look amazing.”

“Thank you.” He got up holding my waist and kissing me. He looked good too. He was wearing tight black jeans, black and grey stripped long sleeve shirt with a leather jacket on top.

“Can’t we just stay here instead of going to the stupid party?” He whispered close to my ear.

“Why?”

“Cause I want to keep you to myself.” He said kissing me again. I giggled as we parted. A honk was heard outside and we knew it was Gerard. We said goodbye to Frank’s mom and got in Gerard’s car.

“Damn Bella! You’re going to break some hearts tonight.” Gerard said looking at me with a grin.

“Thank you Gee.” I said sitting on Frank’s lap. Kyle’s house was in the more rich area of the town. He had a huge two story house with an iron gate too. We parked the car along the drive way, seeing almost all of the school body inside the house. The music was loud playing some techno, rock and rap. We walked straight to the kitchen knowing that the alcohol was there. The guys got some beers while I mixed myself vodka with cranberry juice. I hated the taste of beer. As we stood around talking to some other students, Kyle came walking in.

“Anna! Wow… you look stunning.” Kyle said hugging me tightly.

“Thank you. Nice house!” I said almost yelling over the music. He smiled and looked at the boys. “Oh, this Gerard, Mikey, Bob, Ray, and Frank.” I said pointing to each of them as I said their names. Kyle waved at them and they said hi.

“So my parents bought this new karaoke machine and you have to sing a song with me.” Kyle said.

“I don’t know…” I said not really prepared to sing in front of almost the whole school.

“Please. It’ll be fun! Come on.” Kyle begged with a pout. I laughed giving in. I nodded my head yes. “Yes! Let’s go!”

He grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of the kitchen. I looked back motioning the boys to follow me. Kyle had set the karaoke machine in the living room where the big flat screen TV was at. We both looked through the songs to choose from.

“Let’s sing ‘Time’s A Wastin’ by June Carter and Carl Smith.” Kyle said smiling at me. He really did love the oldies like I did.

“Sure.” I said shrugging. It was until I said sure that I realized the lyrics to the songs. This wasn’t going to be good. There was a crowd already forming in front of us. I could see the boys in the back leaning against the wall. I could see Frank wasn’t too happy. I sighed knowing there’s nothing I could do right now. Kyle hit play and the song began to play.

“Carl Smith: Now I've got arms
June Carter: And I've got arms
Together: Let's get together and use those arms
June Carter: Let's go
Together: Time's a wastin'

Carl Smith: I've got lips
June Carter: And I've got lips
Together: Let's get together and use those lips
June Carter: Let's go
Together: Time's a wastin'

June Carter: A cake's no good if you don't mix the batter and bake it
Carl Smith: And love's just a bubble if you don't take the trouble to make it

Together: So if you're free to go with me
Together: I'll take you quicker than 1-2-3
June Carter: Let's go
Together: Time's a wastin'”

I didn’t dare look at Kyle as I sang the song. I just looked straight at Frank. I could see him grin at me. As we finished the rest of the song, we held hands and took a bow. Everyone cheered for us. I ran straight to the back where the boys were at.

“Anna Bell you were great!” Mikey said hugging.

“Thank you.” I said receiving other compliments from the boys. I walked to Frank smiling.

“Nice choice of song.” He said with an evil grin.

“He choose it, not me. Why, did it bother you?” I said with a coy smile.

“Yes it did.”

“Aw what can I do to make it better?” I said leaning against his chest.

“I can think of something.” He said softly kissing me. I smiled into the kiss. For the rest of the party we just got drunk and talked to random people. I was with Gerard and a friend of his named Mike, in the kitchen. They were talking about movies and other stuff I didn’t really pay attention to them. Frankie had left to the bathroom half an hour ago. He was pretty wasted so I worried where he was now. I kept myself calm thinking he might have bumped into a friend along the way here. I still couldn’t help myself look out the kitchen into the living room, searching for him.

“Looking for lover boy?” Gerard said smiling at me.

“I’m just worried, he’s really drunk.” I said sighing.

“Don’t worry; he knows how to take care of himself.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder to comfort me.

“Speaking of Frank and lovers,” Mike began taking a drink from his beer, “I hear Brittany is back.”

I could feel Gerard’s body tense up. He dropped his arm around me. “What?!”

“Yeah, apparently she fucked her roommate’s boyfriend and got kicked out. Since she didn’t have the money to pay for an apartment herself, she came back to live with her parents.” Mike said finishing his beer.

“Shit!” Gerard said running his fingers through his long black hair.

“Who’s Brittany?” I asked so confused with what’s going on.

“I’ll explain later.” Gerard said looking around. “I have to go find Mikey.” With that he disappeared into the living room.

“I’m going to look for Frank.” I said to Mike waving goodbye. He nodded and I walked into the mass of people. I checked the bathrooms first making sure he wasn’t passed out in there. Next I checked the bedrooms. Bad idea. I opened the door too many times with people having sex in there. I was scared for life. After a while I had checked the entire house and no sign of him. The only place left was outside in the back yard. As I was about to go out back Kyle shouts my name. I turned around smiling at him.

“Hey, are you enjoying the party?” He asked.

“Yeah it’s really fun.”

“Good, Good.” He started rubbing the back of his neck. “So… I wanted to ask you something.”

“Ok, what is it?”

“Well… I wanted to know if you wanted to go on a date with me.” He said laughing nervously.

I blushed, laughing too. “I can’t.”

His face fell. “Oh… so you are with Frank then.”

I shook my head. “No I’m not dating him. I’m just not really looking for a relationship right now.” He looked insulted. “It’s not you, I swear. I’m still recovering from a bad relationship.”

“Well he didn’t deserve you, hurting such a beautiful girl.” He said caressing my cheek. I blushed looking down. He laughed dropping his hand. “Well I really like you and I hope one day when you’re ready, you’ll give me a chance.”

I smiled, “Sure.” He flashed me his perfect smile, pulling me close to him and kissing my cheek.

“See you around Anna.” He said leaving the room. I turned around going back to where I was going to go to. I slid the glass door open to where it led to the back yard. I saw many couples making out in different places. The back yard was huge. There was a pool, a Jacuzzi, a trampoline where many drunken people were bouncing in, a huge tree with a swing and Frank kissing a girl…

Wait what…?

I took a second look making sure what I saw was real. I felt all the blood in my body wash out as I saw him leaning up against the tree with a blonde girl pressed up against him. He looked up pushing her away as he saw me. His face filled with horror. I quickly turned on my heels running inside.

Fuck this why I didn’t want to get attached! Fuck these feelings!

I was suddenly stopped by a hand grabbing onto my arm. It was Frank. He pulled into an empty room next to him. As soon as he closed and locked the door he began to franticly talk.

“Rose I’m so sorry! It wasn’t what it looked like, I swear! She threw herself on me forcing me to kiss her!” He said as he kept going on and on.

“Frank!” He stopped talking and looked at me. “It’s ok. You don’t have to explain anything.” He looked at me confused. “We’re not together Frank.” Hurt washed over his face. “We’re just friends with benefits so it’s ok for you to hook up with other girls.” I said lying trough my teeth.

He didn’t say anything.

“Of course I didn’t like seeing it because I like you but we’re just friends. So there’s no need to apologize.” It was so hard to say those words but I had to for now. I had to be 100% sure what I was going to do when school was over. Stay with Frank or go back to Utah.

“Why are we just friends?!” His sudden burst of anger scared me, making me jump. “Why can’t we be together? I’m not like the other guys! I would never hurt you Rose.”

I felt tears whelming up. “I know Frank. I know you’d treat me better than anyone.”

“Than what’s the problem?!” He was raising his voice now. “What’s stopping you from being with me?!” His voice was cracking as he was about to cry from anger or sadness. Maybe both. I couldn’t answer him. The truth would hurt us both greatly. How could I tell him that the reason I don’t want to be with him is because I might leave him and the boys in a couple months. I never planned to fall for someone here. I just wanted to turn 18 and finish school so I could go back to Utah.

He grew impatient throwing his hands in the air and left the room in anger. I felt the tears coming back and this time I didn’t hold them back. I’m so sorry Frank…
