Battle of the Bands

five

Pete opened the door to his band's dressing room.

Inside, Patrick was doing an array of vocal warm ups. Joe was sitting on the couch strumming and tuning a guitar and Andy was twisting a pair of drumsticks in his hands.

But as soon as Pete and I stepped into the room all three heads shot up to look at us.

Patrick smiled, "Are you the one who sang Mama to Frank Iero?" he questioned.

I blushed a light shade of pink and whispered, "Yes."

"Do you know any of our songs?" Joe asked.

Again, I quietly answered yes.

"Will you sing something to us?" Patrick questioned.

I hesitated.

I really didn't want to.

I absolutely hate it when all eyes are on me.

I cannot handle that kind of stress or pressure.

"Please?" Pete questioned.

I sighed and nodded.

I can't believe how easily I always cave.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and began to sing Golden.

How cruel is the golden rule?
When the lives we lived are only golden-plated
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me
And though I carry karats for everyone to see

And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all the mothers raised their babies
To stay away from me

Tongues on the sockets of electric dreams
Where the sewage of youth drown the spark of my tears
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me (too heavy for me)
And though I carry karats for everyone to see (everyone to see)

And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raised their babies
To stay away from me
And pray they don't grow up to be me

When I finally finished, its as if the entire band was star struck.

Did I miss something?

I can't possibly be that good.

Can I?

"That...was...amazing!" Patrick cheered as Pete jumped up and down and then hugged me.

Then there was a knock at the door, "Arena security!" a voice boomed.

I gasped as my eyes grew wide.

Oh no.

I am so busted.

Before I knew it, Patrick shoved me into the darkness of the closet in the dressing room and held me close to him while he held his finger to his lips, silently telling me to keep quiet.

Once I was out of sight, Pete opened the door to the security guy, "Hey what's up?" he asked.

"One of the contestant winners left the green room. Security is looking for her and is going to kick her out when they find her. If you find her sneaking around, press the panic button on the wall and I will come to collect her." he said as he grinned, "Well, have a good show guys." he said and then left, closing the door behind him.

Patrick and I emerged from the closet and I ran straight into Pete, "I'm in trouble! No, no. This is so not good. What do I do?!" I said quickly.

"Woah, woah. Slow down and take it easy. We'll get you back to the green room and make it seem like you never left." Pete said, trying to soothe me.
