The Way We Were

Captain America

The girls and I were laughing as we stumbled to the bar, sitting down and out of breath. I ordered Edie and I some shots and Chanel got another lime and Coke.

"What kind of dance was that?" I laughed.

"I have no idea! That guy over there, he kept saying his name was Psy and something about gangnam style and then he just got us all dancing to his song." Chanel laughed.

"I can't believe I was actually dancing like that!" Edie blushed, covering her face.

"Well at least we're having fun tonight!" I laughed, taking a shot.

"I know! Audrey this was a great idea!" She smiled, hugging me. The new Pitbull song, Don't Stop The Party began and I got the girls to follow me out onto the dance floor. We were fist pumping and having a great time when I accidentally bumped into someone. I turned to see who it was.

I couldn't help but bite my lip and smile at him, it was Enrique Iglesias. "Hey." I smiled.

We knew exactly who the other was, he smiled back. "Hey, how's it going?"

"Great." I replied. He then took my hand and pulled me into a dance. It wasn't anything seductive since I find it hard to dance that way to this song in particular, but we were having a good time. When the song had ended I casually tried to leave with the girls to go sit down, but he held onto my hand.

"Dance with me." He smiled. A sultry latin song came on and he pulled me closer to him. I couldn't help but burst out laughing, I looked at the girls who were laughing too.

"Um, alright." I laughed, "I don't know how to do this kind of dance though."

"Just go with it." He smiled, placing my arms around his neck and putting his hands on my waist. He obviously knew what he was doing while I awkwardly tried to catch on. He turned me around and held me against him, grinding against me. My jaw dropped as the girls burst out laughing at my reaction. I cleared my throat and quickly turned around.

He chuckled and bit his lip, holding my hips and then dipping me. Finally the song ended and I've never been more relieved. I awkwardly thanked him and shook his hand before making a beeline off the dance floor and back to Edie and Chanel.

"That was awful." I made a face.

"You looked hilarious!" Chanel chuckled.

"That was just...weird." I smiled, opening my clutch. As discreetly as possible I checked my phone to see if I missed any calls or texts. There was nothing so I proceeded to take out my mirror and lipstick, fixing my makeup.

"Do you wanna go to the stage? I think Chromeo are gonna perform." Edie suggested.

"Yeah let's go." I grinned, "Quickly, let's get outta here before I get pulled into another dance unwillingly.

They laughed as we walked up to the stage, keeping a distance from it. With the casual club music playing we fooled around and started dancing and did our usual fist pumping.

"You can just tell we're from the East Coast." Chanel laughed.

I just laughed and then the guy took the stage went straight into their set. I've always wanted these guys to perform at The Prohibition some night, but now since it's the last place on earth I want to be, I'm content with watching them from where I was.

As I watched them and casually danced, I couldn't help but feel someone watching me. So I looked around the room and noticed Chris Evans watching me from the other side of the room. I blushed and just thought I was being silly and that he wasn't actually looking at me, but every time I'd look over to him our eyes would always meet. He smiled at me and sent the butterflies in my stomach mad.

"I think Captain America's looking at me." I whispered to Chanel.

"What?" She laughed.

"I'm serious, he's right over there, Chris Evans." I chuckled.

"Are you sure? Maybe he's looking at me." She laughed. I just rolled my eyes and laughed, looking back at the stage. During Chromeo's performance Chris and I kept making eye contact.

Edie and Chanel started laughing, "Audrey Cobain, good job, Captain America is checking you out!" Chanel laughed.

"You are so embarrassing, I'm gonna go sit down now." I blushed, walking away from them. I sat at the bar and watched the entertainment from there, sipping on a martini. Soon Edie and Chanel came to join me at the bar.

"Your boyfriend couldn't keep his eyes off you." Edie giggled.

I rolled my eyes, "In case you haven't noticed the rings on my finger, I'm married."

"But like the rest of us, you're neglected." Chanel rolled her eyes and sat down.

"I'm trying not to think about that." I made a face. I just turned back to facing the bar, still drinking my martini. Then someone sat next to me. When I turned to see who it was, it was no surprise; Chris Evans.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hey." I replied.

"Hey." The girls leaned over, looking at him.

I quickly turned to them and gave them the look of death.

He laughed and held out his hand, "I'm Chris."

I shook his hand, "Nice to meet you, I'm Audrey. And these are my sister-in-laws, Chanel and Edie."

"It's nice to meet you." He smiled.

"Likewise." Chanel smiled.

"Audrey, first off I need to tell you I'm not drunk. And second, I find you incredibly attractive." He said to me.

I started to laugh, "Is that an insult or what? You're not drunk, so you find me attractive. And if you were?"

He started to laugh too, "I can't believe I just said that, that sounds so bad. I'm sorry, I mean, I just meant I wasn't being an affectionate drunk and hitting on every girl."

"That's okay, I'll just pretend I didn't hear that and all I heard was you telling me that you're attracted to me." I smiled.

"Thank you. But going back to what I was trying to say, I never do this or go up to girls and say things like this. But like I said, I find you incredibly attractive." He smiled.

I bit my lip, "And I find you incredibly attractive too."

He smiled. "If I asked you to dance with me, would you?"

I thought for a moment and nodded, "I probably would."

He held out his hand, "Would you like to dance?"

I smiled, placing my hand in his. "I'd love to."

We stood up and as he began leading us out onto the dance floor, Chanel and Edie were cheering us on.

"Don't mind them, they're a little crazy." I chuckled.

"That's alright." He smiled. Chromeo began performing Night by Night, my favourite song.

"I'm not entirely sure how to dance to this." I lightly laughed.

"Me either, but this is my favourite song of theirs, and I wouldn't want to dance to it with anyone else." He replied.

I blushed, "You sweet talker."

He laughed. He placed his hands at my hips and we started dancing. Being this close, he wasn't just good-looking, he was gorgeous. The song had a very eighties vibe to it and I was dressed for the occasion. He ran his hand along the silk of my dress as we danced, and could he ever dance. I was very impressed and very surprised.

We pulled out all these funky dance moves and made each other laugh, and then at times he'd pulled me close and we'd be pulling out these Dirty Dancing moves. I'd run my fingers through his hair and we'd focus completely on each other. All in all, I've never had such chemistry with another person while dancing.

My heart pounded within my chest as we danced, not from exhaustion but from anticipation. At times we'd be so close it'd look as if we were about to kiss, and I'm sure everyone in the room were carefully watching. So I resisted, with all the willpower I had, I resisted the urge to give into him.

The song had come to an end and I couldn't help but smile as he looked down at me with a little smirk of his own. He then leaned toward me but only to whisper into my ear.

"You don't know how hard it is to keep myself from kissing you right here, right now."

I looked at him with a smile, "I don't think my husband would like that very much."

He then made a face, "You're married?"

I smiled and nodded, knowing that telling him this killed the chemistry, but I was surprised by what he said next. Again he leaned down and whispered into my ear.

"He doesn't have to know."

I looked at him with a smirk and then lightly laughed, "I'll think about it." I then let go of his hand and walked away, back to the girls as the club started up again.

Chanel shook her top and Edie fanned herself, "That was smoking."

"Look at you, you're blushing!" Edie grinned.

"Are you gonna take him home tonight?" Chanel teased.

I actually hesitated to answer that.

Chanel's eyes got big, "Are you actually considering it?"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"I'd do it if I were you." Edie smirked.

I looked at her, not expecting that from her.

She smiled, "I mean, I wouldn't actually do it, I still have patience with Nik, but in your case Audrey, you haven't seen Caleb in a month, he's avoiding your calls and texts, he didn't even send you flowers today."

I just nodded.

"It's getting late, how 'bout we go home? Maybe Chris can come for a ride." Chanel smiled.

I bit my lip, "Sure, just let me go get my jacket from the coat check." I got up and walked to the front of the club to the coat check, getting my leather jacket. As I was putting it on, someone from behind helped put it on my shoulders. I was expecting it to be Chris, but when I turned around it was Enrique.

"Do you need a ride home tonight?" He asked, almost cornering me as I was against the wall. I looked past him and saw Chris sitting at the bar watching me with a smirk.

"Um, no actually. I have my car here, and I'm taking my sister-in-laws home." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Well maybe afterwards?" He pushed me further against the wall.

"I'm giving him a ride too." I quickly pointed to Chris. Enrique looked over his shoulder as I waved Chris over.

"Who's that?" He asked.

As Chris laughed to himself and got up, I answered Enrique's question. "Chris, he's a good friend of mine."

Soon he came over and stood next to us.

"You ready to go?" I asked.

Chris smirked. "Yeah, let's go."

"Thanks anyway, bye." I said to Enrique as I linked arms with Chris and left the club with him and the girls. Chanel and Edie got in the back and he sat in the passenger seat.

"It didn't take you long to make up your mind." He chuckled.

Driving away from the club I just shook my head, "It was to either leave the club with Enrique or you, I chose you. You're a better dancer anyway."

"And you know what they say about men who are good at dancing." Chanel giggled.

I rolled my eyes and turned the radio on. The drive wasn't all that bad, even if I was just taking us all back to my place, Chris was very polite and talked with Edie and Chanel, asking them about their French backgrounds since he noticed their accents.

When we got to my place, we went in and I tossed my keys onto the table and kicked off my shoes. The girls excused themselves to bed and while Chris wasn't looking, made obscene gestures that even shocked me. I just waved them off and turned my attention to him.

"You want a drink?" I asked, going to the bar.

"Sure." He replied, "But hold on."

He took my hand and pulled me close to him, cupping my face and kissing me. I smiled as I gently pulled away. "That was nice." I went to the bar and began fixing us a couple drinks. He watched me as I made them.

I handed him his drink and we took a drink.

"Wow, what is this?" He asked.

"An Old Fashioned, an ex-boyfriend of mine showed me how to make them. It's been my favourite drink ever since." I replied.

"I like it." He smiled.

"I'm gonna go change out of this dress." I began walking to the bedroom. The lights were dimmed as I went to light a few candles. Taking one more sip of my drink I then slowly slipped the straps of the dress off my shoulders and let the silk dress slide down to the floor. He had followed me into the bedroom and sat on the bed, watching me as I stood there in the romantic light. I reached into the closet and pulled out a robe, putting it on and wrapping the silk tie around my waist.

I slowly walked past him and sat on the bed, ushering him to come closer. With a smirk he stepped closer and closer. I knelt on the bed as I pushed off his jacket. He began undoing the buttons on his white shirt as I undid the belt on his jeans. As I slowly undid his jeans and pulled down the zipper, I kissed his chest as he gently ran his fingers through my hair.

I pushed down his jeans and pulled him onto the bed, I lied down as he crawled over top of me. He bowed his body down, pressing it against mine and undoing the tie on my robe and opening it up. His soft hands caressing my sides.

He kissed me and I gently bit his lip as he pushed his hips against mine. I gave a soft sigh while his kisses began moving to my neck, but when I closed my eyes I only thought of Caleb. I shuddered and gently pushed him back.

"Wait." I whispered.

"Are you alright? Is anything wrong?" He asked, lightly panting.

I sat up and pulled my robe closed. He sat back and pushed his hair back, watching me and waiting for an answer.

"I'm sorry." I bit my lip, pulling my knees up to my chest. "I can't do this."

He softly smiled and nodded, "It's okay, you don't have to apologize."

I shook my head and buried my face in my hands, "I can't believe I just ruined your night."

He lightly laughed and placed a hand on my knee. "Don't worry about it, it's completely fine."

I just sighed and said nothing.

"Is this about your husband?" He quietly asked.

I slowly nodded my head.

"Where is he tonight?"

"Phoenix, or maybe he's on the road again. He's in a band, they're on tour right now."

"Are you two having some problems right now?"

I sighed, "Problems is too mere a word. I don't want to burden you with the details, everyone hates it when it when I talk about it."

"Everyone such as?"

"My friends, family." I replied.

"Well they don't seem like much friends if they refuse to listen to you. If you wanna talk, let's talk." He spoke. "We can get drunk too if that makes it any easier." He lightly laughed.

I smiled and nodded, "I like the sounds of that."

He smiled back, "I'll go get the bottles then."

"I'll go with you." I replied, following him into the other room.

In the kitchen and bar we were quietly laughing, as I grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniels and he looked in the fridge and cabinets for snacks.

"I think gummy bears will go quite nicely with whiskey." He held up a bag of candy.

"I think so too." I chuckled.

After getting the snacks we went back to the bedroom. He was lying down on his stomach as I poured us each a glass of whiskey.

"It seems I spent more money on alcohol than on things I actually need." I smiled.

"Why is that?" He chuckled.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know. Maybe subconsciously I was hoping to come to L.A for a Leaving Las Vegas lifestyle."

"Drinking yourself to death?" He gave a laugh.

I just smiled.

His expression changed, he sat up a bit, leaning on his elbows. "What happened between you and your husband? If it's alright to ask."

I laid down next to him after taking a drink, "Where do I begin?" I thought about it for a while and then continued. "Well, his name is Caleb. We got married last year in October and about a week, or maybe it was just a couple days before, I found out I was pregnant. And we kept it a secret until the reception but didn't make a public announcement until after a show I was doing. So after that everyone knew via Twitter, and he left to go back on tour. And at the end of November is when everything began falling apart. I had a miscarriage and we were devastated. I honestly thought that I was going to have a happy ending, but it wasn't the case I guess. And I've been struggling with depression and bipolar, so this really didn't help. For two months I stayed in my bedroom and let my depression take a hold of my life. During those two months, Caleb and I hardly talked, we just became more distant as each day passed. In January he left to go back on tour and no matter how many times I text and call him, he ignores me. It's been a month. And I don't know what to do anymore. I don't want to give up on him, but we made vows for better or for worse, and here I am at my worst...and it seems like he doesn't even care."

I looked down and sighed. "I'm sorry if I'm being such a downer, you don't have to stay if you don't want to."

He put down his glass and took my hand in his, "I want to be here. I'm sorry about everything that's going on, I'm sorry about your loss, and the way your husband is acting. I wish I could help you, I wish I could take away your pain. But even if just talking helps, I wanna be the one you can talk to."

I smiled and closed my eyes, "Thank you."

He just smiled.

For a while we laid there quietly, but I turned to face him again. "I was honestly ready to sleep with you tonight, but I just want to know where Caleb and I stand."

He smiled and leaned on his elbows, "That's okay. At least we got to make out."

I started to laugh. "And dance. You really surprised me tonight."

"I surprised myself!" He burst out laughing, "I kinda felt like Patrick Swayze."

"Really? I was thinking John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever." I joked.

"I'm actually kind of embarrassed now." He laughed.

"I thought it was hot!" I laughed.

"Oh man, I am so embarrassed." He covered his face, laughing harder.

I sat up. "Hey! You know what I haven't done in ages? I haven't played beer pong in like, forever. We should play."

"Really? Yeah, I'm down for that." He chuckled.

"Awesome, there's a ping pong table out on the patio, I'll go get some cups and beer from the fridge." I grinned.

"And just to let you know, you're going down." He laughed.

"Bring it." I smiled.
