Wildflowers

Starry eyed.

Josh watched the girl until she disappeared into the sea of people. He wanted to go after her, but he wasn't sure that was the right thing to do. In fact he hadn't been sure about a lot since his mom brought her up.

"Go after her you moron because if she marries that idiot I'm going to be pissed." He heard Kacy say and he shot her a look of confusion.

"Why?"

"Because, he isn't right for her." She said giving him some relief that he wasn't the only one who thought so.

"Yeah, but what am I going to do about it?"

"Win her over like you always have wanted to." She responded with a smirk and he knew his face went blank at the remark.

"It's a little too late for that." He said softly shoving his hands into his pockets.

"It's never too late." She said shoving him lightly and he groaned as he headed in the direction he saw her go in. He said hello to a few people he passed as he searched the area before heading out into the chilly night air. Once outside he noticed Greyson leaned against the wall staring out into the night. He had to remind himself how to use his feet as he walked closer. She immediately looked up and seemed to be a bit taken a back that it was him. He guessed because she didn't expect him to run after her like he should have done so many times before.

Although he was now nervous, he leaned against the wall beside her and the silence between them seemed to make things worse.

"Do you hate me?" He finally asked, not daring to look at the beautiful girl beside him.

"I should, because I'm still so angry at you, but I don't." She said softly knowing that was the truth.

He nodded looking down at his feet. He knew he should apologize. He just knew whatever he said wouldn't be enough.

"I'm sorry, Grey. I'm so sorry." He finally whispered and she felt her chest tighten up. It felt so familiar standing here with him that she almost wanted to cry.

She shrugged knowing if she spoke she would start crying. She wasn't a sensitive girl, but when it came to him things were always different.

"If I could go back I would."

"Why did you do it?" She finally asked not able to look at him in fear of crying.

"I was scared."

"Of what?"

He breathed in as he finally looked over at her, "I was scared because I fell in love with you and I didn't know how to handle it." He said deciding to be honest for once. Why not? He didn't have her in his life anymore.

She didn't know how to respond to that because it was the last thing she expected to hear. Little did he know she had felt that way before then. She bit her lip as he let out a sigh and ran his hand through his messy hair.

"I'm so glad you're happy Grey, I am. You're too lovely not to have everything you want." He whispered and she had to blink to force back the tears she wanted out.

He gave her a weak grin, "And I wouldn't miss your wedding for the world."

She nodded and they stared at each other before they were interrupted.

"Oh there you are. Everyone is looking for you." They heard and unfortunately Blaine stood at the door.

"Sorry needed some air." She said flashing the boy a smile who was looking at Josh.

"Oh, Josh, Hi, didn't know you were here." Blaine said faking a nice tone.

"Yep, mate. Course I am." Josh said patting Blaine's shoulder before walking back inside. She still couldn't breathe correctly and Blaine was now in front of her.

"Didn't know you invited him."

"Of course I did. His family is here."

The boy simply nodded probably because he knew how she had once felt about Josh. He knew how they were in school. Everyone had always assumed they were together just by how they acted. He couldn't help but be worried that Josh would find a way back into her life.

"Come on." Blaine said kissing her quickly before grabbing her hand. She just wanted to go home and be alone, but instead she faked being happy and made it through the night all the while her eyes kept finding Josh.

"You sure you don't want to just stay with me?" Blaine asked with a frown as they stood outside of the building as everyone left.

"Yeah, I promised Kacy I'd stay plus she's helping me finish invitations." She lied with a grin. She honestly just wanted to be alone and think...of Josh.

He sighed as if he knew deep down but kept it hidden, "Ok. Love you. See you tomorrow." He said kissing her sweetly.

"Ready?" Kacy asked walking up wih Max. She nodded and said bye to Blaine before heading to Kacy's car.

"Why are you coming?" She asked Max with a grin.

"Because I missed my girls and I kind of want to know what Josh said." He said throwing his arm over her shoulders.

"Always a hidden motive Maxwell." She joked and he chuckled as he kissed her temple, "get in the car, love."

She got in the back and he insisted on sitting with her in hopes she'd spill her guts to him. It didn't take long until she did so of course. She always felt comfortable telling Max everything.

"Did you know he felt that way?" She asked him after she told him their whole conversation. Max stared at her realizing this put him in an uncomfortable position now.

"Yes, but not until after we left."

She sighed and leaned against the seat.

"Wasn't it obvious?" Kacy spoke from the front and Greyson fiddled with her fingers, "Was it obvious I loved him?"

"What?!" Max spat out and she looked over at him, "See. Exactly. So no it wasn't."

"Seriously?" He asked softly as he stared at her in disbelief.

"Yeah. I always have." She managed to whisper and he groaned, "This is even worse than I thought."

"Do you still love him?" Kacy asked bravely and Greyson felt her eyes watering. She was just so mixed up right now she didn't know what to do or say.

"I don't know. Can we stop talking about him?" She asked looking out the window as tears fell from my eyes. The one time she finds herself content and happy in her life since Josh left, he had to reappear and ruin it all.

"So you two are ok?" Dan asked Josh as he leaned against his car.

"I don't know, but I know that I can't let her marry him." He said seriously and Dan stifled a laugh, "I hate him so I have no problem with that."

"I just know her. She isn't happy. She's lying. She's pretending, Dan." Josh said seriously. He had thought about it all night and watched her after their conversation. He knew just by how she was acting something was wrong. He couldn't say he wasn't part to blame for it, but he was also a bit proud that he could still read her a little.

"No she's probably just confused now that you are here."

Josh knew he was right about that, but now more than ever he knew he couldn't give up again. This time he was going to try. Maybe it was bad timing, but he didn't care.

Seeing her sparked something inside him, sparked something he thought he had lost a long time ago and he couldn't just let it go again. He couldn't risk not having her in his life for a second time. No, he'd fight for her. He'd show her he meant it this time.

"I don't care Dan. I'm not giving up." Josh mumbled confidently as they got in his car.

"Don't do this. Seriously. She's happy no matter what you think. She doesn't need you screwing things up."

"Whatever." He grumbled. No matter what anyone told him he was going to try. He had to. The thought of being without her again caused his chest to ache. He would have been fine if he never saw her, but that moment his eyes came in contact with hers at the cafe he was sucked back in as if that year or so apart never existed.

His phone went off in his pocket as he loosened up his tie. He sighed and pulled it out noticing the text was from Max.

'She loved you. Loves you...I don't know, but she did love you. She just told me.'

Josh read over the words repeatedly as his heart beated against his chest harder than ever. She loved him? That just seemed ridiculous to believe.

"Drop me off right here." He spoke and Dan gave him an insane look.

"Just pull over." He said urgently and Dan did as he was told.

"Why?"

"I'll see you later." Josh responded getting out quickly.

"Stay away from Greyson!" He shouted and Josh flipped him off as he headed in the familiar route to Greyson and Kacy's apartment. It was only a block away and he hoped the short walk woul calm his nerves.

Once he reached the apartment building a grin hit his lips as he remembered the day she moved in. Although Kacy moved in with her she begged him to stay the night because she was scared. That one night turned into a week and he chuckled at the memory as he walked to her door.

He knocked loudly as he placed his hands on the door frame trying to stay calm. The door finally opened and a confused Greyson stood in front of him.

"Josh? What are you doing here?" She asked a bit taken a back by seeing him. He couldn't find his voice right away because he was taking in her features now that she had taken all that make up and fancy clothes off. He liked her like this the most. It made him feel young again. Made it seem so simple.

She waited for him to reply as nerves filled her stomach from being so close again. He looked as gorgeous as ever although his hair was everywhere and his once tucked in shirt was undone along with his tie.

"I just, I really want to do this." He said finding enough courage to move from his spot and swiftly pull her into a hug. Relief washed over him when she didn't object. He held on to her tightly taking in the smell of her hair and the way she felt. She couldn't help but enjoy this although she knew she shouldn't. She missed him so much.

"I miss you." He finally said bringing his hand to her hair. They stood there for so long Kacy popped up at the door.

"Oh ok well, just making sure you haven't been kidnapped." She said and Greyson didn't even move. Josh gave her a knowing grin and Kacy chuckled before walking away.

"Want to come in? Max is here." Greyson stated against his shirt.

He quickly nodded as she pulled back enough to look at him. He couldn't leave her now. She slid her hand in his and pulled him inside.

Max gave him a strange look as he sat down next to Greyson.

"Well, this feels like old times, but I'm going to go to bed." Kacy said and Max watched her from his spot. She grabbed his hand and tried to pull him from the couch, "Come on Maxy."

He knew she was just doing this so Josh and Greyson could be alone, but he didn't mind being anywhere with her anyways so he quickly got up and let her lead him wherever.

Josh just stared at Greyson as she messed with her shirt. She was nervous and he knew it but he didn't understand why. It was just him.

"Why don't you and Blaine live together?" He asked and she instantly looked at his blue eyes.

"I'm moving in with him after we marry."

He nodded wanting to ask why but he reframed. He slid his hand over to hers and grabbed it up. He just had to touch her. It kept him calm, but made her even more nervous.

"Are you almost done with the wedding plans?" He asked her just trying to get her to talk. She didn't want to discuss this with him though. It made her want to cry and yell that she didn't want to marry Blaine.

"Hardly and I only have 3 months."

"Don't worry. It'll all be ok." He said with a reassuring smile, "I don't know what kind of help I can be but if you need it I will gladly do so."

She smiled at how sweet he was being although she knew he was always like that.

"Thanks, Josh."

He smiled and removed his hand from hers. He knew he needed to go although he didn't want to.

"Well, I should get going, I'll see you soon, love." He whispered leaning in and pressing his lips to her cheek.

She managed to nod and he gave her a grin, "Sweet dreams Grey." He whispered before forcing himself to leave.

His hopes were now so high he'd never let go.
