Sequel: Morning Light

The Cullen

A Hurtful Night

I stayed outside her window while she talked to her friend. She looked so happy; I didn’t want to disturb her. She kind of met somebody? Did she meet someone at school and was just sparing my feelings of loneliness? I was happy when her friend asked who. Oh. She meant me. She never told me she was planning to go to Scotland. When was she going to tell me? I trip to Scotland would not be bad. I wonder how she’ll react if I told her I wanted to go.

I let my mind wander while she went on about what has been happening over the past couple of weeks. All I could hear was what happened when Aaron was here. When she was done with that, I decided it was time to interrupt. I hope she would not mind. She can just call later. I knocked on her window.

“Hey girl, someone just knocked. I have to go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, I promise. Okay?” she said in a rush.

“Yeah girl, that’s fine. Good night,” her friend answered.

“Good night.”

“Scotland?” I asked as she opened the window. I couldn’t help but smile at her.

“Yeah. Why? Were you listening to the entire conversation?”

“Maybe,” I smiled.

She returned my smile. “Do you have any objections to me going to Scotland with Katie?”

“It is only you two going?”

“Yep. Why?”

“A trip to Scotland would be nice.”

“Oh, come on! You don’t trust me to go with a friend?”

“You might die tripping over a piece of grass,” I laughed.

“Ha ha ha,” she laughed sarcastically. It turned into a real laugh.

“So you met someone kind of?” I asked interested. Did she really mean me.

She blushed and yawned unconvincingly. “I’m really tired. I’m going to go to sleep.”

“Oh no. So who is he?”

“Unlike you, I’m human. I need to sleep,” she said, acting like she was tired.

“Ok. You want to know something?”

“Hmm,” she said, no longer tired.

“I met somebody too.”

She smiled and turned to face with me. “Oh really.”

“Yeah,” I said. I leaned down and gently kissed her lips. I have not kissed anyone besides Bella, but this kiss felt right- perfect even.

She fell asleep in my arms shortly. I started humming the melody of her favorite song. I don’t think she has realized that I was humming Think of Me. She slept silently at first. She started saying my name now and then. When she did, I held her closer. She woke up once but only briefly. She caressed my cheek and smiled. She fell back asleep quickly.

She moved restlessly. I laid still beside her thinking. Could I really move on with her? Without Bella? She did make me happy. A feeling I thought was dead when Bella… I still can’t say the word. I brushed my fingers against Lynn’s skin. She sighed and turned over. Her hand went flying and hit me in the nose.

“ Ow,” I said. Wait. I just said ow. How can that be? I touched my nose. The touch sent a little tinge up my nose. I don’t understand how she could hurt me. A human slap hurt a vampire, but how? It’s not like she broke my nose or anything but still. I’ll have to ask Carlisle about it.

“Edward?” she whispered.

Was she awake already? I look down at her. There were no signs of her being awake. She must be sleep talking again.

“Edward?” she said asked. Then she let a blood curdling scream rip through her lungs. She sat up gasping for air. She turned to me with tears falling from her eyes. She wrapped her arms around and continued to cry. She awoke Charlie with a scream. He was coming down the hall hurriedly.

“Charlie,” I whispered. She understood, and I went to the closet.

Charlie busted through the door. “Lynn, are you ok? Lynn! Look at me!”

She didn’t answer him at first. She just sobbed. She finally answered, “It was just a very horrifying dream, Uncle Charlie. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“It’s ok, kid. Do you want to talk about it?”

“No, I rather not. I’m going to the bathroom.” She stumbled out of; Charlie barely caught her. I wanted to run from the closet and catch her myself.

After Charlie left, I went to sit on her bed to wait for her. She came back shaking.

“Your nose is red?” she half asked, half stated.

I couldn’t help but laugh. She was the one shaking, yet she asked me about my read nose. “Yeah you hit me while you were sleeping. It actually hind of hurt.”

“Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. Wait? How did I hurt? Shouldn’t my hand be the thing hurting, not your nose?”

“Yes, but does your hand hurt?”

“No, not at all” She examined the wrong hand.

“You are looking at the wrong hand,” I laughed.

“Oh,” she blushed. She started looking at her left hand. Nothing was wrong with it, no bruise.

I decided to change the subject. “What was your dream about?’

Tears started to form in her eyes. “I would rather not talk about that, at least not now.”

“Okay.” I took her in my arms and started humming once again. She fell asleep quickly. She slept the rest of the night undisturbed.

In the morning I called Alice. I told her about what happened when Lynn hit me, and that Lynn might need a girl’s day. She was very excited about that. I told Lynn. She seemed all right with it. I think she’s happy to get out of the house. Charlie was gone, so I walked her to the car and kissed her goodbye. I headed home to tell Carlisle about last night. He will be happy and concerned.
