If I Was Your Boyfriend

one hundred-forty nine.

Justin’s Point of View

I walk tiredly and aimlessly through the colorful streets of New York City. It was late – about two in the morning late. I couldn’t go to sleep without seeing her and explaining all of this to her.

Really need to talk to you. Call me. – Justin.

I could have easily sent Chrissy a text telling it all to her but I needed to say it to her face. I needed her to look into my eyes and know that I’m not lying to her. I get a cab and use my phone to look up nearby hotels. I called up a few and they all said the same thing – something about customer confidentiality. Sure they’re all about confidentiality up until they have an opportunity to make a profit.

I’ve tried calling you but you’re clearly ignoring my calls. Please Chris talk to me. – Justin.

‘Hey, I’m looking for Chrissy Thorton. Has she checked in?’ I ask yet another manager for the umpteenth time tonight.

‘I’m sorry, sir. We do not give out guest’s information.’

‘Look. It’s late and I’m tired. I just want to find my girlfriend and you are delaying the process. So can I just get one blink for yes and two for no or something? I’m not going to tell anyone I just really need to talk to her right now.’

As the manager denies answering whether or not Chrissy was in fact a guest at the hotel one of the workers casually clears their throat. I look over to the older woman who was pushing the toiletry cart.

‘Thank you sir.’ I step aside and pretend to be interested in the newspapers under the cart.

‘419.’ The woman whispers to me as she rearranges random items on her cart.

‘Thank you.’ I mutter before slipping off to the elevator.

Here I come Chrissy.

Chrissy’s Point of View

I stand in the hallway with Aiden when Selena’s voice crashes into what would’ve been a kiss. She readjusts her large bag on her shoulder while she stares from Aiden to me.

‘We should talk.’

‘You are the last person I would want to talk to right now. Shouldn’t you be trying to ruin what’s left of my relationship?’

‘You’re doing pretty well with that all on your own.’ She scoffs allowing her eyes to scan Aiden’s frame.

‘I guess you do get what you want then.’

‘Just come with me.’ She groans signaling me to follow her into a room down the hall.

‘I’ll be right back.’ I say to Aiden before following Selena.

We go into the large suite and she closes the door behind me. I glance around the room, looking for any sharp objects Selena may stab me in the back with. Selena and I were never friends – she never had enough respect for me to stab me in the back. She’s stab me right in the gut numerous times. She’s turned the knife with an evil smirk enjoying every ounce of my pain.

‘What do you want?’

‘You’re making a mistake.’

‘That is rich coming from you. Especially after what you did with my boyfriend.’

‘Justin and I didn’t do anything.’

‘What?’

‘Look I lied okay. Justin and I had a few drinks – I threw up on my clothes so Justin insisted that I borrowed his shirt even though I had hundreds of things to wear right in front of me. All we did was sleep. That was it.’

‘Why should I believe you?’

‘Think about it. Why would I be here trying to convince you of anything that wasn’t true? I would give anything to watch Justin get bit in the ass by revenge over something that was true. I don’t get why you mean so much to him but you do. The only thing he is guilty of is being a person that hates to say no.’

‘Why Selena?’

‘Why what?’

‘Why are you here? Telling me this?’

‘Like I said you mean a lot to him and he used to mean a lot to me. I don’t want to see him destroyed over a lie. I realize that I’ve did a lot of horrible things in the past but I’m trying to move on with my life.’

‘I think it’s a little too late for that now actually. I’m pretty sure we’ve held all we could for so long.’

‘Don’t let it be too late. If you do then all of this would be for nothing. Me loving him, him loving you, it would all be for nothing. All of us have wasted our time for months. Somehow your relationship has sustained all of this crap this far. Just talk to him. Give him the chance to explain.’

‘I better go.’

‘Listen Chrissy; don’t do anything that you’re going to have to apologize for later. He may be drop dead gorgeous but it only lasts for so long.’

‘Bye Selena.’

‘Bye Chrissy.’

I step off of the elevator with my heart pounding against my ribcage. I walk past every door getting closer and closer to hers.

‘419.’ I whisper to myself glancing at the set of numbers, ‘419.’

419. This couldn’t be the right number. There’s no way that Chrissy would have some random ass guy outside her room at this time of the night. There is no way.

‘May I help you?’ I question coming to a slow stop.

‘No bro, I don’t think you can.’ He fans me off like I was some sort of fly.

‘Well step aside, bro. I’m looking for someone.’

‘Oh who would that be?’

‘My girlfriend.’ I clarify knocking on the door.

‘She gave me the impression that she didn’t have a boyfriend.’

‘Is that so? Who are you?’

‘I’m someone new. Chrissy’s deciding to drop the deadweight in her life.’

‘That’s funny because I didn’t get the memo.’

‘Well now you do – loud and clear.’

I couldn’t believe this random guy was standing outside of my girlfriend’s hotel room with this smug look on his face. I knock on the door again but Chrissy doesn’t answer.

‘Look I don’t know who or what you think you are to my girlfriend but you aren’t the first or last lowlife to come into her life. They never stay long and in the end, I’m always here. The one left standing. With Chrissy.’

‘I hate to break it to you but she’s done with you. You’re washed up. You’ve had chance after chance but you keep screwing up.’

‘Somehow you think you know something about my relationship and my girlfriend.’

‘I knew enough for her to throw herself all over me in the hallway.’

With that I jumped on him.

Chrissy’s Point of View

After my talk with Selena I decide to call Justin so we could talk. I just needed to ask Aiden to leave for the night. That is when I went into the hallway to see the two of them rolling around on the hotel’s floor.

‘Justin?!’ I shout rushing over to the scene trying to pry him off of Aiden. ‘Justin stop!’

Justin stands to his feet as I push him against the wall. Aiden wipes the crimson color from his mouth as he stumbles onto his feet. He spits out blood onto the hotel’s carpet leaving a stain.

‘You’re done!’ Aiden shouts angrily.

‘Aiden just go please.’ I beg as other guests come out of their rooms including Selena.

Aiden storms off shouting several obscenities as he goes. Justin grabs my arm pulling me down the hall. His chest rises quickly with adrenaline and fury.

‘What are you doing here?!’

‘Just hold me.’ He pleads quietly falling into my arms, ‘I don’t care about him or her or anything else just be here with me please.’

‘Justin we really need to talk.’

‘Shh.’ He coos griping my waist tightly, ‘Not right now.’

As I held Justin I could practically feel his body trembling against mine. We just stood in the hall for what felt like forever holding each other in place.

‘Let’s get out of here.’

‘Okay, my room’s just right here.’

‘No I mean New York – let’s go back home.’

‘What about our things?’

‘I’ll have the hotel take them to the airport. We can wait for a private plane.’

‘I don’t think I can sit on a plane without talking about all of this first.’

‘I don’t know what you want me to say. I’m trying to wrap my head around everything that was said.’

‘With who Aiden?’

‘So you do know him?’

‘He’s someone I met.’

‘When?’

‘Earlier.’

‘Did you tell him that you were done with me?’

‘No. That’s what he told you?’

‘He told me that you threw yourself all of him. How you wanted something new in your life.’

‘That’s not true.’

‘And what Selena said isn’t true.’

‘I know. She told me everything.’

‘Do you love me?’

‘You know I do.’

‘Then that’s all that matters right?’

‘But what happens when that’s not enough?’

‘I love you.’ He mutters cupping my face to kiss me. ‘It will always be enough.’

The familiar feeling of guilt settles in the pit of my stomach as Justin holds me close to his chest. I rest my head on chest listening to the steady beat of his heart. I didn’t exactly lie to Justin about Aiden – he didn’t ask. Everything was happening so fast. He was talking so fast.

‘Let’s go please Chris.’

I silently follow Justin towards the elevator and slide inside with him. His lip had the tiniest red cut in the corner that stuck out like a sore thumb. I lean up to touch his lip causing him to flinch with pain.

‘I didn’t notice that.’ He stiffs out a short sarcastic laugh, ‘Cheap shot.’

‘I’m just going to turn the key in really fast.’

‘I’ll get a cab.’

I walk over to the counter sliding the key over the desk to explain why I was leaving earlier than planned. The manager tells me something about not getting the deposit back but I didn’t care enough to listen. I nod my head a few times so I would appear to be interested in the conversation. We finally make it out of hotel and into a cab. As we were going to the airstrip Justin talks on the phone to the hotel about our luggage.

‘They’re sending our stuff to the apartment first thing in the morning.’

‘Good.’

We were at the airstrip for hours waiting for the private plane Justin insisted on getting. I ended up falling asleep waiting for the plane to arrive. A loud siren roars causing me to wake up.

‘What in the world?’ Justin squints at the red and blue lights flashing against the tinted window.

‘Is that the police?’

‘Wait here.’ Justin goes to unbuckle his seat belt climbing from his seat.

The driver steps out of the car and Justin follows. I grab my purse and hurry out of the car to hear the words being exchanged.

‘Justin Bieber?’

‘Yeah?’

‘You’re under arrest for assault.’
