Sequel: Science & Faith

Fairytales & Lullabies

no it can't be this easy.

Kris and I stumbled into the apartment around midnight. It was Valentine’s Day and Kris had played his first game after his injury, notching an assist on the lone goal of the game. We had gone out for a late dinner after the game, opting to change at the arena and leave directly to the nice Italian restaurant.

I wrapped my arms around Kris’ neck. His hands immediately found my waist. I leaned in for a quick kiss and he held it longer. When we finally broke apart he was looking directly at me. In a firm but quiet voice he said, "I love you."

A smile immediately formed on my face and I pulled him for a kiss. I broke it apart for only a second to tell him "I love you too."

We started kissing again. His tongue found its way into my mouth. I hadn't realized it, but we were slowly making our way to the bedroom. The butterflies in my stomach seemed to move even more.

Kris kissed down my neck and moved towards the bed. My knees hit the mattress and I fell onto the bed. He took off his suit jacket and placed it on the floor. Our lips reconnected and my hands moved to unbutton his shirt.

I had three buttons undone when my cell phone rang from the other room. I removed my lips from Kris' but his were immediately attached to my neck. "Kris, what if it's an emergency?"

In between kisses he managed to say, "If it's important they'll call back." He moved back up and pulled in me for another kiss. I finished with the buttons on his shirt and pulled it off his body. We disconnected for a split second so I could lift the undershirt over his head.

I arched my back when his hands reached behind my dress. He unzipped it and moved his hands to my legs. His hands slowly moved up, trapping the fabric with it. He left kiss on my stomach and chest as he lifted the cloth over my head. I pulled him in for a kiss, before reaching out for his belt.

"Greta?" a voice called from outside the room. The front door slammed shut and Kris and I immediately separated.

"I’ll, uh, go see who it is." Kris looked frustrated and left the room with a sigh and shirtless. I walked over to our shared closet and grabbed a pair of Kris' sweatpants and a Penguins t-shirt. Kris came back in, "Jordan’s here. He wants to talk to you." I walked over to Kris and kissed him on the cheek. "I’m going to take a shower," he grumbled. I could only smirk.

Jordan sat on the couch in a similar position to the one in the hospital. He elbows rested on his knees. His head was hung but his hands were resting on the back of his neck. "Jordan?" I called out softly. His head moved up slowly.

When his eyes met mine, I felt my heart drop. Jordan's eyes were bloodshot. His cheeks stained with tears, most that had dried but a few that had just fallen. I immediately went around the couch and pulled him into a hug. Jordan started to sob and I rubbed my hand in a circle on his back. "Shh, everything's okay."

His voice was strained and hoarse, "Heather cheated on me." I kept my hand moving on his back. He stared to calm down, but kept his arms around me. "I came home early; I thought I'd surprise her. He was in our bed. How could she do this to me?"

"Everything’s going to be fine Jordy. All of your friends and family will be there for you." He sat up and looked at me.

"I trusted her. She just went off and fucked another guy behind my back. How am I supposed to believe that it won't happen with anyone else?" He stood up and started to pace. He was angry, and I had to stop him from doing something rash.

"Stop it." I pointed my finger at him. He put his head down. "Heather does not define the rest of your friends. We're all here for you." He nodded his head. "Do you want to stay here tonight?"

"Yes please." I got up and started walking towards the guest room. Jordan got up and grabbed my wrist. He pulled me into a hug, "Thank you. For everything."

"You're welcome." I pulled away, "You know I love you like the brother I've never had, but next time, give us a little warning you're coming over."

"I'm sorry I called you to tell you when you and Kris were getting freaky." He smirked and I smacked the back of his head. "Not nice!" I left him in the guest room and walked back into Kris and mine’s room.

Kris was lying on the bed with hands behind his head. He lifted his head and his wet hair fell in front of his face when I came into the room. I made my way towards him and pulled him in for a hug. The tears I had been holding back came out. “Hey, what’s wrong?” He tilted my head so I was looking at him.

“Don’t ever cheat on me. I think it’s the worst thing that could happen to a person. Your trust is broken and you don’t know who’s really there for you after.” Kris kissed my forehead.

“I promise. I would never do that to you.” We stayed like that for a few moments. “Come on let’s go to bed.” I nodded my head and crawled in bed next to Kris. Jordan didn’t deserve what happened to him. He had been faithful to Heather and did everything he could to prove his love to her. She just threw that all away. These thoughts ran through my mind until late that night. Eventually, I fell asleep.
