Sequel: Science & Faith

Fairytales & Lullabies

Once upon a time meets happily ever after.

Home opener was exciting to say the least. The Pens won 5 to 4 on an overtime goal by Spencer, his first in the NHL. The players were celebrating in the locker room still, so I took my time cleaning up in the hallway.

"Greta!" Spencer came running out of the locker room with an under armor shirt on and he still wore his breezers and socks. "Did you see my goal?" He came towards me with a huge smile on my face.

"I did! Congratulations!" I pulled him in for a hug. His arms wrapped around me. I had meant for it to me a short, celebratory hug, but when I pulled away he held me in place.

I looked up at him and his face came towards mine. Before I could tell him to stop, his lips found mine. I struggled against his grip. When he finally let go of me, I brought my right hand up and slapped his face.

"I told you I have a fiancé. I love him. Nothing is going to change that."

He rubbed his cheek. A mark was already starting to form. "I understand. Friends?"

I nodded my head, “But if you pull anything like that ever again, I will get the team to beat you up, understand?” It was his turn to nod his head and I turned on my heels.

It was hard for me to see with tears threatening to spill any second. When I got to the locker room, Jordan saw me. I was trying hold back the tears, but he noticed right away. As he pulled me aside he said, "Hey, what's wrong?"

"Where’s Kris? I need to go home." My voice was shaky. I lifted one of my hands, only to see it shake similar to my voice.

"He came in here a few minutes ago. He didn't say anything, just changed and left." I sighed. He knew. I didn't want him to know what had happened.

"Can you take me home?" The tears were starting to fall. I kept my head down and avoid Jordan’s gaze. He went back into the locker room and gathered what he needed. We walked out to his car only a few minutes later.

The ride was silent. I could tell Jordan wanted to ask what happened, but he kept his mouth shut. “Greta,” I continued to look out the window. “If you need anything I’m here for you. I know Kris would never purposely hurt you, but if you need someone there with you I want you to call me.” I gave him a weak smile and small hug as he dropped me off. “I’m serious Greta. Don’t be afraid to call. Good luck.”

Jordan drove off and I stood in front of the apartment building. This was it.

The living was quiet. The TV wasn't on, but Kris was sitting in front of it. He didn't flinch when I shut the door. "What was that?" His voice was strong and filled with anger for such a quiet tone.

"What was what?" I needed to find out what he knew.

"He fucking kissed you!" Kris stood up and faced me. His face was hard. "I came around the hall to find you to go celebrate and he had the fucking nerve to kiss you!" I tried to jump into the argument, but he interrupted. "What I don't understand is that you didn't tell him to stop! You hugged him and just let him kiss you!"

"I didn't know he was going to kiss me! I told you, he's only a friend from college. It was never nothing more."

"Did you ever want it to be more?"

"That doesn't matter right now!" Why would he bring up the past when it had nothing to do with what had happened?

"So you did!" I ran my hand through my hair. "You cheated on me!" He raised his voice.

"I slapped him after he kissed me! I don't care about him. I care about you!"

"I didn't see you pushing back when he kissed you! There was nothing there saying you didn't want it." He lowered his voice and went to our bedroom; I followed.

"Where are you going? We need to talk about this."

Kris had pulled a suitcase out of the closet. He grabbed some clothes and placed them in the bag. "How do I know you and Spencer haven't been together recently? The way you two kissed, it looked pretty intense to me." He walked into the bathroom and grabbed a few essentials. "I think it's best if you just go."

I stared at him in awe. "Are you serious? Nothing happened!" He held out the suitcase, but didn't say anything. I huffed in frustration and walked back into the living room. "I don't care what you think Kris, nothing happened." He followed me out of the bedroom. "If you love me, you should be able trust me." He stayed quiet. I took that as my sign to leave.

I got into my loaned car from Jordan (I still hadn't bought my own) and made my way to his house. I sat outside on his front step for a few minutes before ringing the doorbell. I couldn't help it, but when he opened the door I started crying.

Jordan opened the door and immediately pulled into a hug. I sobbed as he tried to comfort me. "What happened? What's wrong? What did Kris do?" He let go of me and looked right into my eyes.

I don't know what came over me. Maybe it was all the emotions. Maybe it was one of my best friends trying to get some information out of me. Or maybe it was something I needed to tell someone; anyone. "I'm pregnant."
