Baby, I'm a Million.

The Waiting.

I felt Ferris running his fingers through my hair, and I felt his chest rise and fall with each breath he took. I was really happy with the way we were going. There wasn’t any rush to do anything, or make any decisions.

I looked up at him and smiled, “Good morning.”

“Good morning,” he closes his eyes contently and the room again falls silent.

I sigh before I decide to climb out of the bed. I put on my slippers and my robe, and then I walk across the room to look out the window. I see that my dad hadn’t come home, but I wasn’t worried about it. In fact I had expected that he wouldn’t.

I could hear my mom downstairs talking on the phone, but I couldn’t really make out what she said except for my name. I tried to catch more of her side of the conversation but I couldn’t.

“Do you think I should leave?” Ferris asked suddenly breaking the silence.

I shrug, “If you want to.”

He nods, but doesn’t move until we heard a knock on my door. We knew it was my mom, so he dashes for the closet.

“Avery, can I come in?” she asked.

“Hold on one second.”

I wait until Ferris is situated before I open the door, “What’s up, Mom?”

She has this sad look on her face, “Avery, there’s been an accident.”

My eyes widen, “What? Who?”

She walks into my room and sits on my bed. She pats the spot beside her for me to sit, I obey and she holds my hands.

“Avery, last night Nancy’s car was hit by a truck. She’s in the hospital, and the doctors haven’t told her parents anything.”

I try not to cry in front of my mom, but I couldn’t help it. Nancy was my best friend.

“It’s okay, honey. I’m sure it will be okay,” Mom says comfortingly.

“I’ve got to go see her, I’ve got to go!”

She nods, “I agree. She’s your friend, you should go. Oh and take Ferris with you.”

I looked at her puzzled, “Ferris?”

“Yeah, I know he’s in your closet,” she smirks.
