Breaking the Rules

Chapter Twenty-Three

“So how do you like it?” Ryan asks the through the phone.

“It’s wicked,” Nathan answers.

“Thanks. I’d like to come over, but I’m out on tour, sorry,” Ryan apologizes.

“That’s not a problem, mate. We’ll get it,” Max assures.

“Thanks man. Well I gotta go sleep and stuff.”

“Have loads of fun,” Jay tells him.

“Will do. Thanks guys. See ya later.”

“Goodbye,” they say.

“Ready to record?” I ask.

“Not quite. Let’s run through it quick,” Jay suggests.

“Alright.”

Five minutes later they’re in the booth getting ready. Our sound guy controller person Tyler starts the music and Nathan starts the singing, keeping eye contact with me the entire time.

“Baby come over here,
I just gotta tell you something, something.
There’s nothing left to fear,
There’s nothing that can hurt you, nothing.

We can take on bodies of angels,
Away from everyone.
Touch, as we circle the world,
You and me, on the run.

So put your hands up to the sky,
Yeah put 'em up,
Follow me, if you wanna fly,
I'll show you love,
Put your hands up to the sky, inside of mine,
When we touch, we get so high

Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down, I just want your love now,
Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love,
Baby hold on tight

Look at the stars above,
We're the only thing that's brighter, brighter,
Tonight you can feel the love,
The way I feel around you, lighter
We can take on the bodies of angels,
Away from everyone,
Touch as we circle the world,
You and me, on the run

So put your hands up to the sky,
Yeah put 'em up,
Follow me, if you wanna fly,
I'll show you love,
Put your hands up to the sky, inside of mine,
When we touch, we get so high

Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down, I just want your love now,
Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love,
Baby hold on tight

The way I feel around you, lighter
The way I feel around you,
Baby hold on tight
Baby hold on tight

Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love now,
Like a satellite,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love,
Baby hold on tight,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love now,
Satellite,
I don't wanna come down,
I just want your love
Baby hold on tight.”

How they can keep their voices so high, I do not know. But I do know this song is epic.

“Ugh. My voice is sore now,” Nathan complains as he steps out of the booth.

“Mine too. Those high notes are high,” Jay agrees.

“Babies, babies!” Tom starts to chant. Max joins in too. Jay and Nathan point out that they are full grown men and Tom and Max just keep on chanting. Siva stands to the side shaking his head.

Tyler motions me over. I keep three feet away from the arguing boys as I walk over. He hands me headphones and I put them over my ears. The song started to play and, besides the few mistakes, it was brilliant.

“Aye boys come listen to this,” Tyler says. He plays the track and the boys start whispering on what they need to fix. When it’s finished, they talk on who should work now, and who will work tomorrow.

“Nath, are you okay with catching up tomorrow?” Jay asks. I guess they have time for four, but not all five.

“Yeah, that’s fine,” he says.

“Alrighty. Who’s first?” Jay asks the other boys.

“Do you want me to come with you, or stay here?” I ask Nathan.

“Come with, please. Or I’ll get bored,” he says.

“Okay. Boys, I’m going with Nath,” I tell them. They mumble and nod, barely acknowledging me. Whatever. Going anyway.

We stay in a comfortable silence in the elevator. I go to my room to change into some sweats. When I get back out, Nathan is watching TV with some tea.

“Heyo,” I say plopping down next to him. I look at the TV and laugh at him. “Kardashians? The lamest people ever, and you’re watching this?” I seriously despise reality TV.

“She’s hot.”

“Which one?”

“Uhh, all of them.”

“You pig.”

“Same to you. What do ya want to do?”

“How about…” I trail off, moving me closer to him. I gently press my lips against his, smiling.

“Let’s take this to my room, shall we?” he suggests, breaking a way for just the moment.
