I'll Be There

Show night,part II

The sound check went great, and Dj showed her everything about the show, from the equipment to the set up and even how the other members cued each other. She talked to Bumblefoot a little when he decided to butt in during his lecture. “And that’s how we communicate onstage.” Dj had just finished when the other guitarist walked up. “Cue? Mister Ashba last time I checked you like to run all over the stage however much you please without any warning as to when you will fly off of something and land on one of us.” Raven laughed hysterically at that, and Dj glared at his bandmate. He concluded his rig rundown with her and led her to the back where he would prep for the show that started in just a few minutes. His crew was taping cables to him, turning everything on, and checking wires. He had special hearing devices for the performance, and a few other things to make sure his part went smoothly. Raven was amazed at how much work really went into the prep, but she also seemed to enjoy it. He knew she would just kill for a chance to be out there herself. One day maybe.
The prep ended and before I knew it they were playing. It reminded me of just two nights ago when my life changed. Who would’ve thought that I would have kissed that amazing guitarist and get thrown into a pool by Nikki Sixx in just 48 hours? I watched with silent awe as the show unfolded once again, but this time I was in the sidelines. I got to shadow the techs and catch up with Dj when he ducked backstage for quick breaks. He would run back, smile at me, change his shirt, and grab his water bottle from me, pausing only for a quick swig before running back out with a “thank you” directed at me. This happened several times in the few hours the show lasted. Once, seemingly without even thinking about it, he passed me the water bottle and kissed me quickly before dashing back out stage. I was confused of course, and glanced around me wildly to see if anyone noticed, but thankfully nobody was around. Finally the show ended with the bang of cannons shooting millions of pieces of confetti everywhere. I watched in awe, catching a few that floated backstage just as I had the first time. The band gathered on the stage for their final bow, then dispersed backstage, turning it into the wild ants nest that I had witnessed once before. I felt claustrophobic in the wreckage of people and stood still until Dj ran up to me, flashing that perfect smile. “That was great!” I yelled enthusiastically. He hugged me. “Thanks, now let’s get out of here.” He said, pulling me along beside him. Without glancing back once we made it to his car and headed to the hotel. There we stayed up the rest of the night drinking Monster and being loud while I begged him to play Beautiful Creatures songs and he complained about playing so much already. Eventually we both ended up on the couch, wiped, until we both fell asleep in the late morning hours.
