Leaping for Your Dreams

Anna's New Room Part One

2 days after we got some severe shocks we got word that The Canadian Centre for Child Protection was coming the next day for our final inspection before they signed off on our adoption of Anna. Lucky me; Geno and the guys were still in Philly. I got out my computer and we started looking for furniture for her. “What color bed do you want?” I asked as we began looking.

Anna was looking as all the different finishes and sighed. “I really want my room to be purple and white.” I clicked on the side bar for the color white for beds; that narrowed our options. We finally found a collection so that she could have a set instead of just furniture. At Wal-Mart, which made it even better. I called the local Wal-Mart and asked if they had what we wanted in stock. While the one I called did not, there was another close by one who did. They even had it set up so that we could come in and get a closer look at it.

I loaded Anna into the car and we went off to Wal-Mart. Once we got there she held my hand tightly as we got to the furniture department. I’d never seen one so big. We looked around and found the set we were looking for, The Dixie Collection.

We moved through the collection and looked at everything, the construction, how tough the finish was… all of it. In the end we knew that we wanted 1 of each dresser, including the bookcase hutch for the low dresser. We weren’t sure if we wanted a Twin size bed or the larger Full size. We also couldn’t decide which headboard we wanted nor what size night table. We took pictures of all of it and texted Geno to get his opinion.

We got lucky he was in the hotel and not quite ready for game day nap. I was able to talk him to what we were looking at. At a family we decided on what kind of bed we would get for her. We deiced the low bookcase headboard and the 38 inch bookcase tower as a bedside table and 2 of those. We could get a sleigh bed or a storage bed; Anna wanted the storage bed.

We hung up with Geno and headed for the paint department. “Anna if you want purple and white, let’s use white as the border and make the walls purple.”

Anna was looking at paint chips now. “Mama, could I have 1 more color?” She was fingering a blue that would go well with the purple I was looking at.

“How about we do stripes. But you decide how wide they are for every one. We can do them in purple, blue and white so give your room a different look.” I took the blue paint chip from her and grabbed a good white and demonstrated what I was talking about.

“Could I still have mostly purple?” I could tell she liked those colors but she _really_ wanted a purple room.

“Of course sunshine, we’ll do 3 walls in the purple and the 4th in the stripe pattern how about that?” I know it sounded odd compromising with someone so young but I was drawing on my own childhood and how at times I felt I wasn’t listened to. She grinned and nodded and like that we had struck a deal.

We got the paint and everything we would need to make this happen, with the understanding that she would _not_ be sleeping in the new room tonight. With that and the furniture ready to be loaded, we made it happen. She wasn’t the happy chirpy kid I had seen before the horrible news of Monday, but she was closer to being herself again.

When we got home Denis helped us lug everything into the house and upstairs. Then it hit me, she should have some say in what room would be hers as well as how it looked. I looked at her and sighed. “I was going to put you in the room Uncle Denis has been in, but it just hit me that you’re old enough to have an opinion and I should at least hear you out. So, you can look at any of the 3 bedrooms on this floor besides ours and choose from them.”

Anna smiled. She then went through each and every room I pointed out and carefully considered them. “Mama, I think I’ll take _that_ one.” She pointed to the door she wanted.

“Then that one is yours. Let’s get started on painting so we can get you into the room faster.” I picked up the paint and she picked up the supplies and we walked into the room. My heart was starting to lighten; she was almost my daughter. I’d never let her forget her daddy and she’d never again have to worry about being taken away.

Ok Readers now's your chance! I need to know which you think would be better. You've got several choices. I can not write the next chapter without your opinions because I can not choose myself.

Choice A, What room is Anna getting? Denis has been in Bedroom 2 while Anna and Nik ((( were in bedroom 3. Here is the house plan, choose a bedroom on the second floor for me for Anna

Choice B, Does Anna get a Full size bed or a Twin size bed? Yes that is the collection they have agreed upon. If you have questions on what I have chosen for her please ask!

The Three colors for the stripes are: Purple, Blue and White In a pattern similar to This one shown here. Just as an accent wall. You can even choose the wall if you feel incline.
