Fin

for the first time in years

It was a Thursday when he decided to come home.

She was waiting for him every day since.

"Ross," she said, standing up when he opened the door and let himself in. He didn't bother to look at her. He went straight to their room. She followed closely.

She watched as he took his coat off. He looked even more sick than the last time she saw him. He hung on to the closet door, taking deep breaths, before he closed it and turned around, his eyes finally meeting hers.

"Let me explain," she said.

He waved his hand, signaling for her to speak.

"I was angry at you for cheating on me," she whispered, the tears welling up in her eyes for the seven millionth time that day. "And then you got sick. And I didn't know what to do. I've had suitcases brought out to be stuffed with my clothes so I could leave you forever, but I couldn't do it. I can't do it because I love you, Ross. You're my husband and I'm scared out of my fucking mind right now."

After the deafening silence, he spoke, "You should've told me. I even asked you if you were still mad at me for cheating on you and you said that you've forgiven me, Lydia! And God, I love you so much that it hurts, but you lied to me. You took birth control in secret. I feel like such a fucking fool because all I want is to have a kid with you."

She was crying. "I know, Ross. I know and I'm sorry."

He looked at her, disgust in his eyes. "I felt like the worst person in the world because I made one little mistake because I got drunk. I changed just to make you happy. I don't even drink anymore and all I've been trying to do is to win you back, but you've been the villain all this time, Lydia."

"Ross, I love you," she whispered, her voice breaking. "Please, I'll do anything..."

He shook his head. "I don't know what to do, Lydia. I thought about leaving. I thought about divorce. I love you so much that it hurts, do you hear what I'm saying? It hurts to love you, Lydia, and I can't do anything about it."

They were silent. The only thing they could hear was their breathing; she didn't dare say a single word.

"I'm leaving," he said, quietly. "I'm gonna stay with my brother for a little bit so I can figure things out."

She turned away to hide the tears. If she spoke, English words wouldn't come out of her mouth. She covered her mouth with her hand to silence herself. She heard him shuffle behind her and just before he closed the door, he said,

"Goodbye, Lydia."

I like the ending to this chapter a little more. Thank you for being patient with me :)
