Chapter 10.

Later that night, we drove up to my house. He lowered the music and looked at me.
“I”m sorry about my mom.” He said. I knew exactly what he meant.
“It’s not your fault.” I say. He bites his lip. I wish I could do the same. I get out of his car and shut the door. I hear him open the window.
“Be up early tomorrow..” He calls out. I looked back.
“Why?” He was smiling.
“You’ll see.” I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Everything about him just made me happy.

The next morning I was woken up to whispering and being shaken.
“Jess..” I knew the voice anywhere. It was Kellin. I wiped my eyes, and looked up at him. I’d love waking up to this every morning. He giggled.
“I thought I told you to be up early.” I looked outside. It was still dark. How early was it?
“What are we doing?” I ask. I sit up. He pushes the hair out of my face.
“It’s a surprise.” I sigh.
“Well, then I have to get ready.. and I can’t get ready with you in here.” He laughs.
“But I thought best friends could get changed in front of each other.”
“Kellin..”
“I’m kiddingggg, I’m kidding. I’m close my eyes.” He does, and lies down on my bed.
I quickly change into the closest things I can find. I go over to my mirror.
“No time for that.” He says, taking my hand. I follow him close out to his car.
After driving for a little while, I see where he’s taking me.
“Here we are.” He says. He parks close to the dock, walks around and opens my door. Always a gentleman.
“Why here?” I ask. He turns and points to the sky. A perfect view of the sunrise. The skies a perfect mixture of oranges and blue and purples. Just like the time at the lake. We walked together onto the dock. You could hear the loud ringing of the bells on the boats, and the gawking of the seagulls. He leaned on the railing and looked out onto the water. The light from the sunrise shone into his eyes, as the perfect gust of wind blew his hair from his face. Perfect. As usual.
I leaned on the railing close to him. I heard him sigh.
“So..” He said “What do you plan on doing after high school?” He was still fixated on the sun. So I did the same.
“I really don’t know..” I said.
“I..” He started, but hesitated.
“What?” I asked. I looked over at him. His face was scrunched up.
“I.. I think I want to try with music..” He finally said. I smiled.
“I think that’s a good idea.” He looked at me.
“Really? You.. you don’t think it’s stupid?” I shook my head.
“My mom thinks it’s stupid.” He said softly, looking back at the water.
“Well, your mom doesn’t know how talented you are.” I say.
“You really think I’m talented?” He asks, now looking at me. I feel my face blush. I nod.
“So.. you think I have a shot?” He didn’t seem to sure of himself. I nodded again.
“I think that out of anyone.. You’d be the one to do it.” He smiled.
“Would you come with me?” He asked. I bit my lip.
“What?”
“I.. after school.. will you come with me? Will you be there with me?” I looked at him.
“I mean, I know it’s asking a lot.” He says “I’m asking you to drop everything just to help me with my dream.. I know tha-” I cut him off.
“I’ll go with you.” I say. He sighs, and smiles, gently taking my hand and intertwining our fingers. I feel my heart beat faster. He gently pulls me closer to him. I run my fingers through his hair as he leans his forehead against mine.
“I don’t know what I’d do without you..” He says, pushing the hair out of my face. I feel my cheeks burning now, and I couldn’t help but think the same thing. Only I couldn’t get the words out.
Finally, he touches my cheek, gently tilting my chin up.
“Now..” He says. “Don’t laugh.”
He then leans in, gently kissing my lips. I could feel my heart beating faster than before. I would of thought it was going to hop out of my chest. My body got ice cold, and my cheeks were on fire. Before I could react, he moved away, and looked at me, biting his lip. I smiled and looked down at my feet.
“I said don’t laugh..” He said.
“I’m not laughing.” I whisper, I look up at him, still smiling. He smiles back.
“I.. I uh..um..” He says. He looked down too. “I.. I imagine you don’t want to hang around here anymore.” He says. I sigh, gently tilting up his head. Gently holding his face in my hands, I kiss him again. I feel his hands move up my body from my hips up to my neck. I gently moved away, and lean my forehead against his. He’s smiling.
“I’ll get you back home now..” He says, his face also as red as mine.
“O-okay..” I say. I start walking back to his car. He walks close gently touching my hand. I get in, and prepare for the quiet drive home.
