A Promise Binds Me to Her

IV

Both girls resurfaced with a loud and strenuous gasp; for air. Alexandria swam to her sister and wrapped a protective arm around her waist, guiding her to a rock. Once Snow was on the rock and able to breathe at a normal rate, Alexandria climbed out and flopped down upon a boulder her chest heaving up and down rapidly. She closed her eyes only for a second and then reopened them to find her sister climbing through a cavern of mountainous rocks. Alexandria scuffled to her feet and followed her younger sister, brows furrowed and questions of where she was going running through her mind.

As soon as Snow White drops down onto a beach she sees the beautiful white horse laying and watching her approach. Snow White felt a connection with the beautiful beast, reaching out a hand and stroking it softly. She felt the soul of the horse speaking to her mind, whispering untold secrets, with a soft and awe drawn smile she looks over at her confused sister,
“She has come to save us Alexandria,” she soothed coaxing her sister over with a wave of her hand. Alexandria approaches the horse a little weary then she too places her hand upon its neck,
“Then we should leave, Ravenna’s men will be closing in,” Alexandria mutters looking over her shoulder, the time in the tower had caused her to grow paranoid. Alexandra lifted a leg over the horse and sat upon its back, Snow White follows suit and wraps her arms around her sister’s waist in a vice like grip.

The horse stands and races away from the beach, both girls bracing themselves against the wind and speed. They had to get through the village, which was not far from the castle, before the guards if they wanted to escape. When they got there Alexandria stopped the horse briefly, letting a sad and disgusted look cross her dirty face. The village that was once full with happy villagers singing and dancing around with the children was gone and in its place was the small and foreboding one she saw before her. The brightly coloured buildings were but a memory as the ones Alexandria saw before her were rotting and all colour was gone.

Alexandria could not bare it anymore her once peaceful and happy kingdom was but a foggy memory in her mind, she instructed the horse to leave with a harsh kick.

Snow White was appalled with her sister. They would go riding when they were young; around the country side and along the cliff edges with their parents once, her sister had never hurt a horse in such a cruel way before. Just as they galloped over a small hill both the sisters could hear the horses of the men perusing them,
“Hurry Alexandria!” Snow White whimpered squeezing her sister for safety. Alexandria swallowed hard, when suddenly their horse veered off to the right taking them towards the edge of a dark forest, “What are you doing?” Snow White asked in her ear,
“I don’t know the horse just turned!” Alexandria snapped back trying to get the horse to go around the dark and bloodcurdling forest, but it was focused on its goal.

The horse stumbled a few times before falling into a pit of mud right at the edge of the forest, the girls were thrown off. Snow White lucky landed on the crunchy grass covered verge. Alexandria, however, was just short and landing side on in the mud. She did not care; she found it better than faecal matter. Snow White pulled her sister out from the mud and tried to reach for the horse, Alexandria watched helpless. The Queen’s men were gaining on them and fast. Getting ever closer and closer. Alexandria ran forward latched a hand around Snow’s arm,
“We must help her!” Snow White protested trying to pry her sister’s hand from her forearm and reach for the horse, it broke Alexandria’s heart to see her sister so desperate but she had to get her to safety. Yanking her sister to her feet and shoving her in front Alexandria pushed her sister through the first stretch of the forest.
