Best Intentions

"I have to go. I'm sorry" I said as tears started to fall from my eyes
"You can't keep running away from me, Tay!" he said as he grabbed my arm "Is she mine?" he said with a little hope in his eyes. I stayed silent. "I've always wanted a daughter" he smiled. "You know that" he added the smile slowly fading.
"Alex, I can explain.." I said
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked
"I was scared" I told him
"I would've been there to support you through all of this" he said
"I was young. Pregnant at 17. I didn't know what to do!" I said
"I missed 5 years of her life, Tay" he said. I could see tears forming in his eyes. "Of your lives" he added.
"I know. I'm sorry" I said. "I wouldn't expect you to forgive me, but I really am sorry" I said. I started to turn away when he grabbed my arm again
"Can I get to know her more... Like as my daughter?" he asked
"I-i- I'm not ready for that Alex.." I said feeling guilty
"Please Tay" he pleaded "I've already missed 5 years of her life" he said
"Okay" I said while smiling
"Okay?" he repeated with a grin on his face
"Okay" I repeated. He hugged me. We stayed like that for a long time. I finally pulled away.
"I have to go" I said
"Wait" Alex said. "Does this change 'us'?" he asked
"Define us" I told him
"Us like us bestfriends" he said
"No." I said
"So it'll be just like two bestfriends raising a kid together?" he asked. I laughed
"Yeah, something like that" I said
"But we kissed" he said
"It was an impulse thing" I said
"Yeah totally" he said and I walked away

The door opened and I could tell that it was Sam, Cass and Rosie.
"It's about time that you guys got here! I was getting worried!!" I scolded them.
"We're sorry!! She already ate dinner and we took good care of her and she's all set for bed!" Sam said
"Okay. Goodnight, sweetheart!" I said
"Goodnight mommy" Rosie said. We went up to her room, I tucked her in and as usual she asked me to sing for her just like Alex always used to back then. He would always tell me that I had the voice of an angel I would always just shrug it off. When she finally fell asleep I slipped out of the room and went downstairs to talk to Sam and Cass.
"I'm so sorry!!" Cass said with the look that I hated
"It's fine. She's safe, isn't she?" I said
"Not about that" she said
"About what then?" I asked
"I told him" She stated.
"What the hell, Cass? I told you that I would tell him soon" I hissed
"The guys and I thought that he really needed to know now. He was getting attached to the kid and we thought that if you wouldn't tell him then we would." she explained
"You have no right" I said
"I do. I was basically the second mom of that child" she said. I could speak. I couldn't say anything. "I'm sorry, Tay" she added
"It's fine. You were only looking out for me and Rosie. I appreciate it, but next time give me a heads up, will you?" I said
"Of course" she said. It was silent for a moment
"How are things with Alex?" Sam asked
"Fine. We're like bestfriends raising a child together" I told her
"What? You guys aren't getting together? It's been like 10 years of sexual tension between you guys! From the time we moved here upto now and you guys still aren't getting together?" she said
"We talked about it, well I talked about it, and decided that that would be best until we've figured things out" I said
"So you talked about it?" They both said. I stayed quiet. "Tay, you're risking your friendship with him. And you're risking Rosie's welfare. You guys really have to talk about it now. As in soon" Cass said
"I know, we will. Soon." I said
