Omega in the Pack

Tennessee Flat Top Box and Islander

Months passed and the lull of life became a routine, not that the pack was complaining. They trained at night a few times a week, those not on the lacrosse team went to cheer their friends on, and Ally went to work and school. In April she started fretting about final projects, papers, passing classes, and memorizing her music for the concert that was coming up.
"Hey Ally, what's this?" Stiles held up a gold piece of paper.
Looking up from her backpack, she was on her way out to her night class, Ally replied, "Flyer for the music concert coming up."
"You in it?"
"Yep, it's the music department's recital." She gave herself a pat down for her keys. "Backpack, keys, wallet, ID, homework. Okay got everything."
"It's this Friday at 7pm, correct?"
"Yes. I'll see ya later. Bye everyone!" Ally left barely registering she talked to Stiles at all.
Once Stiles knew Ally was out of earshot, he turned to the pack and smiled, "Who wants to go to a concert?"
Everyone eyed each other, some with uncertainty and others with excitement. "I don't know, should we?" Scott asked.
"Why wouldn't we? She goes to everything for us." Stiles argued.
"Yeah, but wouldn't she have said something about it if she wanted us to go?" Jackson asked.
"Maybe not." Lydia commented as she sculpted her nails. "She'd be waay to embarrassed to ask us to go."
"Lydia's got a point." Allison chipped in. "She'd probably think we have better things to do or too afraid to sing in front of us."
"Ally sings?" Isaac asked.
"Case and point." Allison pointed.
"I think we should surprise her!" Stiles smiled.
"Who are we surprising?" Derrek asked as he entered the room.
"Ally at her recital. You in?" Stiles asked passing the flyer.
"Sure." Derrek scanned the flyer. "So not telling her?"
"Wouldn't be much of a surprise of we told her now would it?" Stiles asked rhetorically. Derrek gave him a look while he passed the paper back to Stiles. The pack planned to meet at the school ten minutes before it started to ensure they got seats.
Ally was too stressed about school and work to realize what the pack was planning and paced nervously in the back of the stage the night of the concert. Her black knee length skirt swished as she spun to change direction. She fidgeted with her red halter top, trying desperately to calm her self. Once the singer before her ended his song, she stepped out onto the stage and was pleasantly surprised to see a row of familiar faces. She blushed as the music started for her first song:
In a little cabaret in a South Texas border town,
Sat a boy and his guitar, and the people came from all around.
And all the girls from there to Austin,
Were slippin' away from home and puttin' jewelery in hock.
To take the trip, to go and listen,
To the little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

Instrumental

Well, he couldn't ride or wrangle, and he never cared to make a dime.
But give him his guitar, and he'd be happy all the time.
And all the girls from nine to ninety,
Were snapping fingers, tapping toes, and begging him: "Don't stop."
And hypnotized and fascinated,
By the little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

Instrumental

Then one day he was gone, and no one ever saw him 'round,
He'd vanished like the breeze, they forgot him in the little town.
But all the girls still dreamed about him.
And hung around the cabaret until the doors were locked.
And then one day on the Hit Parade,
Was a little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.
And he will play...

The music ended and she curtsied. The room erupted into cheers, especially from a middle row in particular. She ducked her head down and disappeared back stage. "You seem to have a fan club out there." Her friend Steve teased.
"Um yeah, I guess I do."
"You seem surprised."
"I didn't know anyone was coming to night. I'm kinda happy they did." A small smile spread across her lips.
"You'll have to introduce me to your friends then." He grinned. She nodded and together they waited until the second to last singer exited the stage before they walked on.
"Hello everyone." Steve greeted. "My name is Steve Fault and I will be singing and playing Islander by Nightwish. Tonight I have the honor of having Ally here to sing with me, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the music." He started playing his guitar and singing:
(Steve) An old man by a seashore at the end of day
Gazes the horizon with sea winds in his face
Tempest tossed island, seasons all the same
Anchorage unpainted and a ship without a name

(Steve) Sea without a shore for the banished one unheard
He lightens the beacon light at the end of world
Showing the way, lighting hope in their hearts
The ones on their travels homeward from afar

(Steve) This is for long forgotten light at the end of the world
Horizon crying the tears he left behind long ago

(Steve) The albatross is flying, making him daydream
The time before he became one of the world's unseen
(Both) Princess in the tower, children in the fields
Life gave him it all an island of the universe

(Steve) Oh, now his love's a memory, a ghost in the fog
He sets the sails one last time saying farewell to the world
(Both) Anchor to the water, seabed far below
Grass still in his feet and a smile beneath his brow

(Both) This is for long forgotten light at the end of the world
Horizon crying the tears we left behind long ago
So long ago, so long ago
This is for long forgotten light at the end of the world
Horizon crying the tears we left behind so long ago
So long ago
After the song finished the pair took a bow and everyone clapped and whistled. The director of the music department came up, gave one final speech, congratulated the singers, and then declared the recital over. Ally weaved her way to her friends and was quickly enveloped into a hug by Stiles.
"You were amazing! Since when could you sing like that?" He smiled.
"Since forever." She muttered.
"Well, belt it out more." He laughed as he handed her a small bouquet of flowers. "From all of us. You were awesome."
Ally smelt the flowers as her face turned redder and redder. "Thank you everyone."
"No problem." One by one she hugged them.
"Oh and this," She tugged Steve over so she could introduce them to him. "Is Steve. We've been practicing the song since February."
"Hi everyone." He smiled and waved.
"Steve this is: Isaac, Lydia, Allison, Jackson, Scott, Stiles, and Derrek." After a few more pleasantries, the gang went home and ended the night with a movie.
