No Place for Women

Chapter Five

Calili's POV

Like I've been used to every day since we left our mother here in Rivendell, I awoke at dawn. Though I wasn't at liberty to move around much; I noticed there was an arm around me, holding me close. Slowly, I looked over my shoulder to see who the arm belonged to. Fili. Seeing him so close, for some reason, caused me to smile a rather large smile.

Trying my hardest not to wake him up, I moved his arm from around me and crawled to my feet. I grabbed Kila's cloak from where it was folded on the ground from where I had been using it as a pillow while I slept. The thought of Kila giving up her only thing for warmth caused me to smile slightly. Having a sister that cared so much about my protection was such an amazing feeling; she was always here for me, just like I'm always there for her. That is if she ever needs me. Which is truely a rare thing in fact.

I moved across the small room, grabbed a few pieces of wood, and placed it on the small flame burning in the center of the circle. I knew that people would probably be waking up soon. Though I remained quiet as I walked over to the door.

Once out of the room, I let out a deep breath, and made my way down the long corrider to where I knew the clothes we had been in before were, along with our weapons. The flat bottomed shoes that were one my feet made small tapping sounds with each and every step I took on the stone floors. I didn't bother with knocking on the door that our clothes were behind; no one was ever occupying the room unless it was myself or Kila.

I left the dirt covered clothes sitting on the wooden chairs where we had left them only yesterday, and grabbed my bow and arrow along with Kila's sword and the millions of little kinves she carried with her where ever we go. She reminded me of Fili in that sense. He had told me only last night that he fought with a sword and carried around a multitude of little knives, hidden in random places under his jacket and on his belt so that no enemy could spot it - though I'm sure Kila could spot them all in just a matter of seconds.

Mom always said she was like our father when it came to weapons; though I had never met him, I knew mom must've been right. Kila had always been so interested in sword fighting when Gandalf was teaching her as a young girl. She would always listen to him and repeat nearly every single word that he told her while training. I never will understand how she had ever gotten so interested in sword fighting, while I was more into archery.

"They are his daughters, I'm sure of it Thorin!" A voice said, just around the cornor from where I was standing.

"There is no way; Mortri had no children, Balin. There's no way." The one known as Thorin said.

He was talking to Balin; Balin was one of the men we got to know last night we were all sitting around the fire to get to know each other. What could they possibly be discussing so early in the morning?

I shrugged it off before returning to the room where I had left Kila sleeping with all those men around her. She would probably kill me when I get back for leaving; or maybe not considering I left for a good cause- to get our weapons I mean. We've never been without them foor too long.

When I got back to the room, I noticed that everyone was awake, or in the process of waking up. Fili was standing in the cornor, placing all his knives back in his coat, and fixing his sword in his belt. Looking around the room, I saw that Kili had just gotten to the point of waking up my sister. Oh that wasn't going to go good for him. Kila hated being woken up; she's the kind of person that wakes up when instinct tells you to wake up...at least when we're not in Rivendell that is. Her body has adapted to the point where it know the deifference between the Green Wood and Rivendell.

When we're in Rivendell her body has grown used to sleeping later than we're able to when we're out in the wild.

"Carefully, Kili." I laughed, "She might just bite your head off for waking her up."

He gave me a sarcastic laugh and went back to trying to wake her up. I walked over to them and placed her sword and her small pile of knives on the ground next to her before walking over to where Fili was standing.

"Now what's a little innocent girl like yourself doing with weapons like that?" He laughed, "You may hurt yourself."

Before I had the chance to say anything to the very sexist comment, Thorin came into the room to speak to everyone.

"Everyone, gather everything so we can leave. Kila, Calili, gather your things as well. You're both coming with us. Fili, Kili, I'm placing you in charge of their protection. If anything happens to them. It'll be on you." Thorin stated, before once more leaving.
