‹ Prequel: Where Did the Love Go?

Love Is Forever

Ch.11

“Daddy what is the Stanley cup?” Sidney Jr. asked Sidney. We were all sitting in mine and Sidney’s bedroom while we were getting ready for Sidney to leave for game 7.

“Well boys the Stanley Cup is a big prize that I am is trying to get.” Sid said smiling.

“What do you get if you win?” Brent asked

“Well I get a trophy.” Sidney said

“Oh.” Brent said

I don’t think the fully grasped the concept of it, but they will get it when they are older, Sidney was going to be in game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. This was the game for all the marbles. It was going to be in Detroit, so the boys and I were going to Detroit to watch Sidney. I was 8 months pregnant, and it was a little hard to travel, but I knew it was worth it. This could be one of the biggest moments in Sidney’s career. It would be his very first Stanley Cup win. No matter what, I was still going to be proud of Sidney. He didn’t need to win the Stanley cup, or even play hockey for me to love him, he just needed to be the Sidney I loved.

“Are you nervous?” I asked Sidney as he climbed back in bed. I was on one side and Brent and Sidney Jr. were next to me, and Sid was on the other side of them.

“Umm.. Kind of.” Sidney said honestly.

“You guys will do great, I know it.”

“Yeah I think we have a pretty good chance, but I am just afraid that I wont be able to lead the team.”

“Babe come on you are a great captain, you will do amazing.”

“I know but I am just nervous, I don’t know if the guys will be able to take another loss and especially to the red wings.” Sidney said, and I looked over and I could see the sadness in his eyes. I knew he was nervous.
I grabbed his hand and pulled it over to my face.

“babe it will be okay, you cant think like that, you need to give it all you have, and in the end that’s all that matters. You can’t do that ‘what if stuff’, just try your best and that all.” I said smiling at him.

“I love you Nicole. You know that right.” Sid said pulling my hand over to his face, and gently kissing.

“Yeah Sid. I know that.” I said smiling. We sat there for a little longer just talking. Sidney got up and finished packing his bag.

“daddy I don’t want you to go.” Sidney Jr. said grabbing Sid’s hand as he put his bag down on the floor.

“Aw bud I know, but I have to. You guys will see me tomorrow though.” Sidney said trying to cheer him up.

“I’ll miss you daddy.” Brent said.

“I’ll miss all of you.” Sidney said smiling “Come here give me a hug.” Sidney said. The two boys raced over to Sidney and grabbed him around the neck and gave him a giant hug. Sidney picked them up and gently laid them down on the bed and began to tickle them. They were giggling and laughing like crazy.

“daddy stop.” Sidney said laughing. You know those laugh that little kids have, were it is so cute that it makes you smile. Well Sidney Jr. had one of those laughs. It was just infectious, whenever you heard it you couldn’t help but laugh.

I just looked over at them and smiled.

“Psst boys come here.” Sidney said, and the two boys got up and listened. They both started to laugh.

“Lets get mommy!” Sid said and I had the three of them jump over and start tickling me like crazy. I hated the fact that I was so ticklish.

“get her neck!” Sidney yelled and Brent put his tiny little hands by my neck and started tickling me.

“ohh is that how you treat your mommy?” I asked grabbing him gently and bringing him over to me. I put him right by face and started rubbing my nose in his cheek. He started laughing and I started to tickle his stomach.

After about ten minutes everyone was exhausted from laughing. I looked over and the boys were asleep. I looked at the clock and realized Sidney had to go.

“psst. Sid you got to go.” I said gently rubbing his shoulder.

“hmm what? I have to leave.” He said getting up gently off the bed. He got up and came over to my side, to help me get up, it was rather hard to move now with my baby bump. He helped me up and wrapped me in his arms.

“Don’t worry Sid.” you will do great. I said placing my head in his neck.

“ I know. I know. To tell you the truth, I think I am more nervous about having another baby then the game.” he said laughing. I wasn’t sure how to take that. He said he wanted another kid, I didn’t force him to have another kid.

“what do you mean?” I asked

“Well nothing, I am just afraid we aren’t going to do something right. I mean how can we balance giving attention to three kids. I mean when we have two, we can each give attention to one, but how do you balance an odd number.” He said and I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Babe don’t even worry about that. You will be a great dad, we will figure it out, I promise as long as we love them, then everything will be okay.” I said and I gave him a small kiss on the lips.

“You always know what to say to make me feel better.” Sidney said smiling.

“I know, but that’s because I love you and I know what you really care about.” I said smiling

“you know, I love you more than I can describe.” Sidney said and he gave me a little kiss on the cheek.

“Should I wake the boys up or let them sleep?” Sidney asked

“Ah let them sleep. You will see them tomorrow.” I said

“Yeah your right. They have had a long day. Tell them I love them.” Sidney said unwrapping me from the hug.

“I will.”

Sidney gave each of the boys a kiss on the forehead, without waking them up and grabbed his bag and grabbed my hand and headed downstairs.

“So is Jordan picking you up?” I asked

“Yeah he is. Want to come out and say hi to him?”

“Um yeah sure.”

Sidney led me out of the house and I saw Jordan smiling. He got out of the car when he saw me.

“Hey Nicole.” Jordan said giving me a small hug.

“Hey Jordy. How are you?”

“Pretty good and you?” he asked

“Not bad. Are you nervous?”

“Nahh, I am the Jordan Staal, nothing makes me nervous.” He said puffing out his chest, I couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“Just wait until you have a baby and this will feel like a walk in the park.” Sid said

“umm. I don’t think I am ever going to have a kid then.” Jordan said laughing.

“Don’t listen to him Jordy, it’s not that bad to have kids.”

“Yeah well we will see.” he said sending me a small smile.

Sidney walked over to me and wrapped me in his arms, and gave me a little kiss.

“Alright I will see you, and good luck and I love you.” I said and I leaned up and kissed him.

“Thanks babe. I love you too.” he said smiling.

He held me for a little while longer, and then we pulled apart.

“Take care of him for me Jordan and good luck tomorrow.” I said giving him a small hug.

“I will keep him out of the strip clubs.” Jordan said laughing.

“You do that.” I said smiling. I waved them goodbye, and headed back into the house to take a nap with my two sons. They were still fast asleep when I went back upstairs. I smiled down at their little faces, they looked just like their father, and every time I see them, I am reminded of just how blessed I am.
