Lessons Learned I

Rachel 022

"Ugh!" I exclaimed, throwing my pencil down on my table. "Algebra sucks." I sighed and looked around my dorm room. "Maybe Alex can use his lovely photographic memory to help me..."

I grabbed my book and pencil and headed out the door.

A few minutes later, I was knocking on the door to Alex's dorm.

He opened the door, but avoided eye contact. "Hey. Come on in," he said, stepping aside.

I smiled a little. "Hi, Alex."

"H-How are you?" he asked, clearing his throat.

"I'm fine...are you okay?" I looked at him.

"Yeah, I'm just fine. Are you cool?"

I shook my head. "Not really. I'm this close to smacking someone upside the head with this book!" I held it up.

He looked at it. "Want any help?"

"I would really appreciate it." I grinned a little.

He took the book and skimmed through it. "Okay, what's the problem?"

As I opened my mouth to answer, a sudden flashback popped into my head.

I saw myself kissing him as a result of playing Spin the Bottle.

I suddenly felt my face turn red as I blushed and cleared my throat. "Um...all of it..." I mumbled nervously.

He slowly nodded and began explaining everything. I could feel my face grow a little more red.

About five minutes later, he handed my book back. "Uh...thanks," I mumbled.

"Any time..." he said, looking embarrassed.

I nodded and cleared my throat. "Um...are you okay?"

"Y-Yeah. Are you?"

"Y-Yeah...I guess..."

He stared at the floor with an embarrassed expression on his face.

I cleared my throat. "Maybe it'd be best if I left..." I mumbled.

"U-Um...you don't have to..."

I looked up at him and watched him. He continued to avoid eye contact.

"Why are we acting so weird?"

He shrugged a little. "Um..."

I sighed and looked down after a few moments passed.

"Maybe we should just forget that it ever happened..." he mumbled.

"It was only a game..." I mumbled.

"I know..."

"Things shouldn't be awkward...I mean, it was practically meaningless, right?"

"Yeah...of course..."

I sighed, then laughed a little. "It was kind of cool playing the game, though, you know? I'm glad the thing landed on me when Adam spinned it. I got to slap him."

He laughed a little. "I wish I could have seen that."

I smiled. "I don't know...I have a weird feeling about him. And there was no way in hell I was going to kiss him. I didn't mind bending the rules for that occasion."

"Something's...off about him."

I nodded. "I agree. I just don't know what. Well, he's disrespectful. Hey, I know I'm not the prettiest girl out there, but he shouldn't be looking up other women while out on a supposed 'date' with me."

"I know. I could have killed him when he did that."

I looked up at him with a weird look on my face. "You saw him do it?"

"...well, Lee and I were there, remember?"

I nodded. "But I didn't think you guys saw everything."

"Just that part and beyond."

"Oh..." I paused for a moment. "Why were you guys there, anyway?"

"We were there in case we had to kick his ass."

I laughed a little. "I'm glad you guys were there."

He smiled a little. "So am I."

I grinned, then looked down and cleared my throat. I looked back up at him. "So...no more awkwardness?"

"Yeah. We'll go with that." He smiled.

I returned it. "Good. Thanks for everything, Alex."

"No troubles."

I smiled and got my book, then left after saying goodbye.
