Lessons Learned I

Lee 023

For some bizzare reason, Rachel and I were going to her mom's house.

"Uh...why are we doing this again?" I asked nervously. We pulled into her driveway.

"Cause!"

I sighed and shut the car off.

"Alright, you're the boss..." We got out of the car and walked up the front steps.

Right when Rachel was about to knock on the door, her mom answered the door. Rachel stared at her with a shocked look on her face.

"Hi, Mom!" She hugged her.

"Hi, baby!" They parted a short time later.

I stared at them awkwardly.

First thing my mom asks me whenever I come around is if I have condoms in my pocket or not...

Rachel stepped away from her mom. Her mother walked over and hugged me.

"Hi, Bea!" she said. I lightly patted her on the back.

"Um...hi, Rachel's mom," I said awkwardly.

She might get insulted if I correct her.

Her mom let go of me and smiled.

"Um...Mom...it's Lee..." Rachel corrected.

"Whoops!" her mom smiled again. "Come on in!"

We went inside and got seated into the livingroom.

I sat in a chair and stared at Rachel and her mom, feeling quite awkward.

What am I supposed to say?

"How are you, dear?" Ms. H asked.

"Fine. How've you been, Mom?"

"Great, great! Spotted another alien on my way to work the other day."

"Oh, really?" Rachel asked as if it were no big deal.

"Yep!"

I smiled politely at them.

Aliens? What the...

Her mom looked over at me.

"So, have you ever seen aliens?"

"No, ma'am," I said. "I haven't."

"Aw, too bad! It's really interesting."

"I suppose so. You said you saw an alien the other day?"

"Yeah! There were these two lights that kept following each other side-by-side. They weren't stars because they were moving, and they weren't planes because they made no noise!"

I raised my eyebrows.

"Wow, that's creepy..."

"I know!"

I looked over at Rachel, then looked back at her mom, not knowing what to say.

A timer went off in the kitchen.

"Holy nuggets, my cookies are done! Hang on, girls." Her mom got up and went into the kitchen. Rachel had a weird look on her face, but shrugged it off quickly.

A few minutes later her mom came back in with a plate full of green alien-shaped sugar cookies.

What the hell?!

"Want one?!" she asked.

"Um..." I mumbled. "Sure..."

I don't want to be rude!

I politely took one and stared at Rachel with a questioning look on my face.

Rachel nodded and took a cookie and ate it.

"Holy crap, they're good!"

"But of course!"

I took a bite.

Holy shit, I think I just had a taste of Heaven.

"These are really good, Ms. H," I said.

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome..."
