Falling for You Was Out of My Control

Our Dogs Are Best Friends

Evgeni’s POV
“Evgeni can I ask you a huge favor?” Jessie sounded panicked over the phone.
“Anything,” I hurried as I packed up my gear.
“Can you come with me to take Sebastian to the vet?”
“Sure when?”
“In an hour, could you bring Jeffrey? He really doesn’t like the vet and maybe he will stay calm with him there.”
“Ok, just finish practice, be there soon.”

I hurried out down the hall only to be caught by Sid wanting to know if we were going to lunch again.
“Can’t, Jessie take dog to vet I go with her.”
“Ok… oh yeah,” he got my attention back as I began to walk away.
“Yeah.”
“Flower is having a Christmas party when we get back from Washington he told me to remind you and to invite Jessie.”
“OK see you tomorrow,” I jogged off.

I rushed home and got Jeffrey before picking up Jessie and Sebastian to take him to the vet.

“Thanks for coming with me,” she looked over from the passenger side of my car with a small smile.
“Is ok,” I reached over the center console and grabbed her hand, “I want help you… my girlfriend,” I smiled back.
“Evgeni stop,” she was going bright red as I kissed the back of her hand.

I don’t think I had ever felt this way about someone before. She was everything I ever wanted and whole lot more and I was in love her.

“I’ve got him,” I picked up Sebastian and followed Jessie into the veterinary clinic with Jeffrey plodding behind me.

“It’s going to be ok buddy,” Jessie sat on the floor next to Sebastian as we waited for the vet to call.

Jeffrey stood by him and watched as people walked passed letting out a little growl if they got close.
“Jeffrey no, here,” I called him back to me where he began licking Sebastian’s ear.
“He be ok boy,” I ruffled up Jeffrey to try and distract him from Sebastian lying on the ground.

Jessie’s POV
“Sebastian,” Rick his vet walked out and smiled when he saw my pooch. Sebastian tried to get up looking rather excited to see him only to whimper and fall back down.

“Poor boy,” Rick patted Sebastian’s head as Evgeni set him down in the table, “so what’s going on with this leg?”
“Well we aren’t exactly sure what happened, he went missing when it was stormy the other day and we found him like it.”
“Alright let’s see what’s going on here.”

Sebastian whimpered as Rick pulled at his leg and Jeffrey being his protective self went to jump at him.
“Jeffrey no,” Evgeni grabbed him and pulled him back, “sorry.”
“It’s ok he’s just doing his job,” Rick shrugged it off.

“Look I am going to have to keep him for the afternoon, get some x rays done and then I will ring you when I found out what is going on, ok? It looks like he may have torn a ligament.”
“Ok,” I hated leaving Sebastian at home alone when I went to school but leaving him at the vet was even worse.

“We will be back baby boy,” I knelt down and hugged my boy so tight.
“Say bye Jeffrey,” Evgeni pointed to Sebastian and Jeffrey put his front paws up on the table to lick him.

Our dogs bond was at the point where if Evgeni and I were to stop seeing each other they would be heart broken and then I wouldn’t know what to do.

“Come on, he be ok,” Evgeni put his arm around me and we walked out of the vet one dog down.

I didn’t like to see him in this much pain and agony and I knew he would be in good hands with Rick. But I couldn’t help but feel guilty, that it was my fault that he was hurt. If I hadn’t left the door open he never would have gotten out and if he never got out he never would have been hurt.

Evgeni’s POV
“I don’t know what I am going to do,” she stood helplessly in the kitchen with a glass of water in her hand.
“He’s going to be fine,” I moved closer to her and took the glass away from her putting it on the bench.
“If he needs surgery there is no way I can afford it,” she began to cry as I wrapped my arms around her.
“Don’t worry, he needs I pay.”
“No Evgeni,” she pushed away from me, “I can’t ask that of you.”
“You not ask, I offer, I help,” I pulled her back into my arms and this time she gave up pushing me away.

“I pay now, you pay back?” I made her look at me because I knew she wouldn’t accept me paying it all for her.
“Ok, I promise I will pay you back as I can,” she agreed but I didn’t mind if it took her years to pay me back. I had money, I had more money than I knew what to do with and I could only hope that if it was the other way around that she would do the same for me.

We sat around all day waiting anxiously to find out what was going on. We hoped that maybe something was just twisted or bruised and that he would be ok.

I hadn’t seen Jessie move as fast when her phone began going off in the kitchen.
“Hello. Yes. Ok. Mhuh. Alright. See you soon,” she hung up and stood in front of me looking upset.

“What they say?”
“It’s torn, his cruciate ligament. He’s going to need surgery,” she sighed with a few stray tears rolling down her cheek.
“Like dog, like owner,” I tried to lighten the mood a little, which worked, she smiled a little before she slapped my arm.
“Can we just go get my dog?”

We when got to the veterinary clinic the vet walked Sebastian out and he was limping and looked to be in more pain then he was before.

“Now he has to take these one at night one in the morning to get the swelling down before he has surgery next week and no walking, complete rest.”

We got back to Jessie’s and I put him down on his blanket by the heater to keep warm. He was so tired from his the first lot of medication that he was sound asleep before we even got a chance to settle down while Jeffrey laid by to protect him all night.
